Paris World Arabian Horse Championships By Urszula Leczycka Arabhorsepromotion.com z photos by Irina Filsinger WWorld Championships held in Paris under the patronage of HRH Mohammed VI King of Marocco is a part of world s biggest equine events Salon du Cheval and for Arabian horses it s the final of the whole show season s trials at the most important events around the world. Usually the results of this strong Paris competition can be more or less foreseeable considering the winners of the previous most important competitions of the year. The difference comes when the past World Championships winners decide to enter the arena again This year we had a few spectacular come backs of the former World Champions, so the show, for the first time held in the new location of Parc des Expositions Paris Nord Villepinte brought the high quality event with not only great appearances but also great surroundings of big collecting ring, wide, bright arena with a good view for both spectators and VIPs. The excellent variety of music put all in a good moods from the very beginning so the visitors were having fun similar to the best football matches especially if wearing the scarf of their favorite stud farm the new Paris fashion amongst the gadgets at Arabian horse show tribunes! www.tuttoarabi.com TUTTO ARABI 19

FM GLORIAA Silver Medal Fillies (WH Justice***/Psity of Angels) Owner: James Sans (BEL) Breeder: Mieke Sans (BEL) This year the highly respected and experienced jury with Sylvia Garde-Ehlert, Jaroslav Lacina, Doug Dahmen, Richard Philstrom, Holger Ismer, Francesco Santoro and Pierluigi Rota was given a hard task to choose from these of very best horses representing almost all the continents however the number of US-owned competitors was this year relatively small. The main trophies of 2009 world s main show were divided into the Middle East (all gold medals), Europe, Australia and Dubai the silvers, and Saudi Arabia with Poland bronze champions. Especially in the junior sections it was clearly shown that Middle Eastern farms are not anymore just the buyers - they also become successful breeders. A perfect example of this tendency was Junior Female Championships with unanimous winner of the class and the gold medalist Najdah Al Zobair bred and owned by Alzobair Stud, UAE. In the final competition the second place was given to the spectacular winner of All Nations Cup Junior Championships and the section B in Paris FM Gloriaa of Belgium while the bronze www.tuttoarabi.com TUTTO ARABI 21
LAYAN AL KHALEDIAH Bronze Medal Fillies (Dakharo*/Padrons Amour) Owner/Breeder: Al Khalediah Stables (SAU) medal of World Championships 2009 went again to the filly owned by her Middle Eastern breeder Layan Al Khalediah, Saudi Arabia representative. Both FM Gloriaa and Najdah Al Zobair were also awarded with the nice trophy of Best Head presented to the best head and neck scored horse of each section. In all female and senior champion stallion classes the best heads belonged to the class winning horses. Al Khalediah Stables was also a successful breeder and owner of Junior Male Championships with their champion-made El Palacio VO, winner of Best Head in the junior section B, sired by the Paris former champion - Al Lahab and Polish-bred and owned mare El Dorada, 2004 World Reserve Champion mare. The competition of the direct rivals of El Palacio had a strong favorite from the very beginning. It was Abha Qatar another 22 TUTTO ARABI www.tuttoarabi.com

Good score in this group was also achieved by beautifully headed Shangay EA bred and owned by Albert Sorocca in Spain, the Silver Medalist of 2009 European Championships that becomes a new star sired by his famous champion producing father - WH Justice. However placed as fourth in the final competition Shangay EA was awarded as the Best Head of his group and the winner of Trophee Espoirs ( The Hope ) the prizes he deserved without a doubt. EMANDORIA Bronze Medal Mares (Gazal Al Shaqab***/Emanda***) Owner/Breeder: Stadina Koni Michalow Stud (POL) a really men s fight with a lot of emotions. There was rather no doubt that the final round will belong to the two former world champions coming back to the ring Royal Colours (2006 World Champion Colt) placed in the section A and Al Lahab (2006 unanimous World Champion Stallion) as the older one located as strong competitor of section B. And when it all was going following the expectations of their fans the third favorite came into the arena! It was Marquis CAHR, 2007 World Junior Reserve Champion and one of the best Marwan Al Shaqab sons who spent the last two years mostly competing at his homeland of Middle East for Al Khalediah Stables. Entering the arena as the last entry of the class leaded unanimously by that time by Royal Colours, with Michael Byatt on the lead (after the fatal accident of his trainer Philip Hosay) Marquis made his best performance ever beating the class leader with 0,5 point and adding a lot of emotions to Saturday night and Sunday morning 30 TUTTO ARABI www.tuttoarabi.com

In the group of best top ten stallions it s really worth to mention that the non-medal places were respectively divided into the horses bred in the US and Poland with great looking Eden C on lease to Atbah Stud Saudi Arabia, impressive Magnum Gold owned also in Saudi by Al Khaled Farm and the great showman Sandhiran with the very new ambitious owners at Selman Arabians in Marocco all representing New World s breeding, and four Polish bred and owned sires Pegasus, Poganin, Salar and Esparto. Coming back to the final senior males battle - this time the once in the lifetime disposition of Royal Colours flying above the arena with Paolo Capecci gave him the undoubted champion title as well as the Best Egyptian Horse trophy and a great reason to the happy cheer and relief after the stressful Saturday for his fans. MARQUIS CAHR Bronze Medal Stallions (Marwan Al Shaqab*/Rohara Magnifica) Owner: HRH Prince Khaled Bin Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz (SAU) Breeder: Sandra C Powel (USA) dal went to Al Lahab and the bronze to Marquis CAHR whose sire Marwan Al Shaqab for the second time in a row became the Best Sire Winner with a great support of his successful 2009 World Championships get: Najdah Al Zobair, Abha Qatar, Marquis and Angeliccah (Top Ten Junior Female for Dubai Stud). And despite once more the most of the favorites took their trophies they deserved following the expectations, it seems that such thrilling change of the positions between the big leaders (especially in stallions parts) is becoming a new tradition of Paris show for the last couple of years. However giving the owners some goose bumps during the romantic Paris weekend, it surely makes World Championships even more exceptional than any other Arabian horse meeting in the world. q 34 TUTTO ARABI www.tuttoarabi.com
