Price Injured RACE 1 : BARDRILL BARTON / SABOIS MAIDEN PLATE - 1050 metres REGAL JASMINE (NZ) (C. Lions) was slow to jump. POLLY GARTER (C. Lindop) jumped away awkwardly. Shortly after the start ME POP S A RANGA (D. Tourneur) shifted out onto TERRAFIRE (W. Kerford), which was inconvenienced. Near the 600 metres REGAL JASMINE (NZ) (C. Lions) was obliged to ease away from the heels of HALF BACK FLANK (J. Matthews), which shifted in when inclined to race greenly. From the 400 metres, for some distance, WILDSPITZE (P. Gatt) had difficulty obtaining clear ground. Near the 200 metres, when attempting to improve, WILDSPITZE (P. Gatt) was obliged to steady away from the heels of MOON DEVIL (N. Hall), which shifted in. N. Hall was severely reprimanded and advised in future to take greater care when shifting ground. Inside the 200 metres ROLLING STONES (D. Dunn) was disappointed when attempting to improve into marginal room between ME POP S A RANGA (D. Tourneur) and SOCIAL GAZE (S. Price), which rolled in. Correct Weight for this event was delayed to permit P. Gatt, the rider of the second placegetter WILDSPITZE, and that gelding s Trainer, Mr. T. McEvoy, to view the official vision in the straight. RACE 2 : ADVERTISER NEWSPAPERS / SABOIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1300 metres On arrival at the start ROCK THE DARK SIDE (NZ) was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon and ruled fit. SON OF CAESAR (D. Tourneur) stood in the gates and missed the start several lengths. Mr. P. Stokes, the Trainer of SON OF CAESAR, was advised that a repetition of that gelding s behaviour may lead to action being taken against it. VON RADETZKY (T. Pannell) jumped away awkwardly. ROUTINE MISS (A. Patterson) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out onto BAKLAVA BOY (NZ) (J. Matthews), which was inconvenienced. MAGIC MILADY (C. Lindop) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in onto GREY MUSTANG (C. Lions), which was inconvenienced. From the 400 metres until the vicinity of the 100 metres APARDEE (N. Hall) was unable to obtain clear ground. From approaching the 400 metres MAGIC MILADY (C. Lindop) was unable to obtain clear ground and approaching the 100 metres became held up when racing between the heels of SIR GILES (T. Baker) and ROCK THE DARK SIDE (NZ) (S. Price). Thereafter MAGIC MILADY was not tested running to the line. Approaching the 200 metres GREY MUSTANG (C. Lions) shifted in and away from BAKLAVA BOY (NZ) (J. Matthews), as that gelding was taken in marginally, resulting in LYNSHEE (D. Dunn) being taken in onto APARDEE (N. Hall), which was inconvenienced. Correct Weight for this event was delayed to permit Stewards to review the official vision of the start. ROCK THE DARK SIDE (NZ), which performed below expectations. was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities. RACE 3 : ATLAS EVENT & PARTY HIRE SABOIS MAIDEN PLATE - 1600 metres PROHIBITION LAD (J. Potter) reared as the gates opened. SILVER CITY BOY (T. Pannell) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in onto ROLL (NZ) (N. Hall) taking that gelding in onto FOSSICKING (D. Oliver), which was inconvenienced. ROLL (NZ) (N. Hall) and ELECTRIC CIRCUS (P. Gatt) were inclined to lay out under pressure in the straight. A. Patterson, the rider of HANDSOME AS, was questioned regarding his use of the whip in a forehand manner on more than five occasions prior to the 100 metres. After considering his explanation, A. Patterson was charged with an offence under ARR.137A(5)(a)(ii). He pleaded guilty and was reprimanded RACE 4 : TATTSBET RATING 0-68 HIGHWEIGHT - 2200 metres Shortly after the start STORMING NORTH (S. Gray) shifted out onto ATHENA PEGASUS (S. Pateman), which was inconvenienced. Shortly after the start GIANT VICTORY (D. MacAuley) lost its position when tightened between MUSTY SPRINGS (G. RACE 4 : TATTSBET RATING 0-68 HIGHWEIGHT - 2200 metres (Cont d) In the middle stages of the event BELL RINGER (A. Crowe) was inclined to race keenly. From approaching the 400 metres until inside the 200 metres BELL RINGER (A. Crowe) was unable to obtain clear ground. M. Bowes, the rider of GOTHIC CROWN, was questioned regarding his use of the whip in a forehand manner on more than five occasions prior to the 100 metres. After considering his explanation, M. Bowes was charged with an offence under ARR.137A(5)(a)(ii). He pleaded guilty and was reprimanded. AURION was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. First Aid was administered. Mr. J.A. O Connor, the trainer of AURION, was advised a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness would be required prior to presenting for a future trial or race. STORMING NORTH was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Mr. J.A. O Connor, the Trainer of STORMING NORTH, was advised a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness would be required prior to presenting for a future trial or race. NOTONMATCHDAY was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported a lacerated heel on the outside of the off hind leg. First Aid was administered. RACE 5 : ANGAS SECURITIES GOLD STANDARD RATING 0-78 HANDICAP 1400 metres In the middle stages of the event ROY RAJAS (H. McKechnie) was inclined to race keenly. RACE 6 : JACOBS CREEK RATING 0-68 HANDICAP - 1600 metres TO CRY FOR (S. Westover) and DAYLIGHT S DAUPHIN (S. Price) were slow to jump. On jumping away MEADOWS DAN (M. Hoppo) rolled in onto OBLAQUE (R. Wheeler), tightening that gelding onto BALLYPATRICK (J. Potter), which was inconvenienced. At various stages of the event OBLAQUE (R. Wheeler) and OTTANA (C. Lindop) raced keenly. At the entrance to the straight CADASHA (P. Gatt) shifted out onto CALLMEDAN (D. Oliver), turning that gelding s hindquarters out. From the entrance to the straight to the vicinity of the 100 metres BALLYPATRICK (J. Potter) was unable to obtain clear ground. Approaching the 200 metres CALLMEDAN (D. Oliver) rolled in onto OBLAQUE (R. Wheeler), which was inconvenienced. Correct Weight for this event was delayed to permit C. Lindop, the rider of the second placegetter OTTANA, and that gelding s Trainer, Mr. L.M. Macdonald, to view the official footage in the straight. RACE 7 : MAXWELL COOPER S MEMORIAL SPRINT - 1050 metres On jumping away OBSIDIAN DRAGON (C. Lindop) and OUTLANDISH LAD (D. Dunn) brushed. RACE 7 : MAXWELL COOPER S MEMORIAL SPRINT - 1050 metres (Cont d) Approaching the 500 metres HEAVEN FOR SURE (S. Westover) shifted in onto NORTH BEACH (D. Tourneur) taking that gelding in onto OUTLANDISH LAD (D. Dunn), which, after initially being tightened onto CUSTODIAN (J. Winks), which brushed the inside rail, was then forced to check, losing its position. S. Westover was charged with Careless Riding under ARR.137(a) in that he permitted HEAVEN FOR SURE to shift ground when insufficiently clear. He pleaded guilty and was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Saturday, 3 September and to conclude at midnight on Sunday, 11 September 2011; a period of four (4) meetings. In determining this penalty, Stewards noted that S. Westover had not previously been charged with Careless Riding during a career of approximately 650 rides. OBSIDIAN DRAGON, which performed below expectations, was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported a slow recovery. Mr. D. Balfour, the Trainer of OBSIDIAN DRAGON, was unable to offer any reason for the performance and undertook to report any abnormalities detected in a thorough post-race veterinary examination. CUSTODIAN, which had got its tongue over the bit during the event, was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities. RACE 8 : MALAYSIA AIRLINES / ADVERTISER NEWSPAPERS BALAKLAVA CUP - 1600 metres On arrival at the start ARTON was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the appearance of blood in a nostril and ruled the gelding unfit to race. Acting on that advice, the Stewards withdrew ARTON at 4.38 pm. Stewards ordered a post-race blood sample be taken from ARTON for the purpose of TCO 2 testing. Shortly after the start SILENT SURROUND (S. Price) lost its position when tightened between MAGICAL PEARL (D. Oliver), which shifted in, and RIVER S LANE (T. Pannell). In the vicinity of the 300 metres, when attempting to alter course across the heels of GLANEUSE (C. Lindop), HOMICIDE HANK (J. Maund) clipped the heels of that gelding as it shifted in marginally resulting in HOMICIDE HANK falling. In consequence MARAASEEM (J. Winks) was severely hampered by the fallen horse. HOMICIDE HANK suffered a fracture to its off side humerus and was humanely euthanased. J. Maund was examined by the Club s Doctor and ruled unfit to fulfil his remaining riding engagement. RACE 9 : CAROMA DORF RATING 0-62 HANDICAP - 1200 metres WYARA MISS, which was fractious in the barriers, was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon and ruled unfit to race. Acting on that advice the Stewards withdrew WYARA MISS at 5.22 pm. Miss R. Day, the Trainer of WYARA MISS, was advised the mare would now be required to perform to the Stewards satisfaction in an Official Barrier Trial prior to accepting for a future race. EDGE OFF (C. Lindop) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in onto HENRYFIELD (S. Westover), which was inconvenienced. From the entrance to the straight until the vicinity of the 100 metres HENRYFIELD (S. Westover) was unable to obtain clear ground. Inside the 400 metres PENZEVENGI (D. Oliver) was obliged to alter course when inconvenienced by EDGE OFF (C. Lindop), which rolled in. RACE 9 : CAROMA DORF RATING 0-62 HANDICAP - 1200 metres (Cont d) In the vicinity of the 200 metres, when attempting to improve into a tight run between STRANGMEAD (P. Gatt) and TEARJERKER (R. Wheeler), which rolled out, STAND IN (W. Kerford) was disappointed and became held up. Inside the 200 metres GRAND GINGER (J. Potter), in an attempt to improve, shifted out onto RED RANGER (D. Dunn), which was inconvenienced, and approaching the finish those runners brushed again. GENERAL: RACE 8 : MALAYSIA AIRLINES / ADVERTISER NEWSPAPERS BALAKLAVA CUP - 1600 metres Mr. W. Clarken, the Trainer of ARTON, which was withdrawn at the barriers in this race, will be interviewed in relation to apparent head trauma to ARTON, which was reported by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon post-race. In particular Mr. Clarken will be required to explain why the trauma was not reported to Stewards pre race in accordance with ARR.140(a).
