The Knights enter today with just two games left this season. The Knights recently wrapped up a four-game series against the Durham Bulls (Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) on Thursday with a 4-1 win over the Bulls. The Knights and Bulls split the four-game series (2-2). The Knights have dropped the first two games of this season and are 2-4 so far on this eight-game homestand. The 2017 season finale is set for 2:05 p.m. tomorrow from BB&T Ballpark. ABOUT LAST KNIGHT: DH D.J. Peterson and 1B Casey Gillaspie launched home runs, but the Charlotte Knights dropped game two of their four-game series against the Norfolk Tides by a score of 8-4 on Saturday night from BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte. The Knights mounted a brief comeback in the ninth inning, but fell just short in their attempt to beat the Tides last night. KNIGHTS vs. TIDES: The Knights and Tides have played 20 games this season and the Knights are currently 9-11 against the Tides in their head-to-head, season series. The Knights have launched 22 home runs against the Tides, while the Tides have hit 20 against the Knights this year. Last year, the Knights posted a 12-10 mark against the Tides. All-time, in their head-to-head series, the Knights lead the Tides 235-224. ROSTER MOVES: Earlier today, LHP Kyle Kubat (coo-bot) was promoted to the Charlotte Knights today from the Birmingham Barons (Double-A). Charlotte s roster is now set at 25 active players. The Omaha, NE native pitched over three levels this season and posted a combined 6-5 record with two saves and a 1.69 ERA in 35 games (three starts) between Kannapolis (Low-A), Winston- Salem (High-A), and Birmingham (Double-A). He was a 2017 South Atlantic League Mid-Season All-Star with Kannapolis and compiled a 3-2 mark with two saves and a 1.12 ERA in 21 games with the team. Most recently, he went 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA and two saves in seven games with the Barons. FROM THE SOUTH TO THE SOUTH SIDE: With the promotion of OF Rymer Liriano yesterday, a total of 20 different players have been promoted from Charlotte to Chicago this season. CROCKETT KNIGHT: The Knights have partnered with the Crockett Foundation on tonight s 2nd Annual Crockett Knight at BB&T Ballpark. Magnum TA, JJ Dillon, Baby Doll, Tommy Young, Jackie Crockett, and the Rock N Roll Express will sign autographs for the fans and be announced on the field before the game. CHARLOTTE STARTING PITCHER: RHP Jean Machi (4-0, 3.60) will make his second start of the season with the Knights today. He threw five solid innings in his first start of the season with the Knights back on August 28th against the Durham Bulls (ND, 5.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO).Machi has appeared in 11 games with Charlotte since joining the team in a trade with the Seattle organization on July 24th. Machi, a native of Venezuela, went 2-4 with 10 saves and a 3.44 ERA in 29 games with the Tacoma Rainiers (Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners) earlier this season. He started three games for the club his last start with Tacoma of the season took place on July 18 at Albuquerque (ND, 4.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO). As a starter, he went 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA (3 GS) over 8.0 IP. Machi also made five appearances with the Seattle Mariners this season and was 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA (7.2 IP). KNOTEWORTHY NORFOLK STARTNG PITCHER: LHP Jason Wheeler (5-2, 3.65) gets the start tonight for the Tides his second of the season against the Knights, but first with Norfolk. He faced the Knights back on April 21st as a member of the Rochester Red Wings at BB&T Ballpark and earned the win. On that day, he allowed just two runs on five hits over seven innings. He struck-out 11 Charlotte batters that day. Last season with Rochester, the 26-year-old posted an 11-6 record with a 3.53 ERA in 24 starts (145.1 IP). He was a mid-season All-Star last season his first All-Star nod since 2012 (Beloit). He has earned two MiLB.com Organizational All-Star. KOPECH DAY: RHP Michael Kopech (1-1, 3.00) was the hard-luck losing pitcher in Friday night s game. He allowed two runs over five solid innings and struck-out seven batters in his third and final start of the season with the Knights. Kopech was promoted from Double-A Birmingham on August 19th and officially joined the Charlotte roster on August 21st. He made his Triple-A debut on Monday, August 21st from Norfolk, VA and allowed two runs on six hits in five innings of work to earn the win. Kopech, 21, is the No. 12 prospect in baseball and No. 3 in the Chicago White Sox system according to MLB.com. He posted an 8-7 record with a 2.87 ERA in 22 starts with the Barons this season. In 119.1 IP, he has allowed just 77 hits while striking out 155 batters, which led the Southern League. While with Birmingham, opponents hit just.184 against him this season, tops in the Southern League. 400 CLUB: OF Jason Bourgeois, who was placed on the DL on Friday, August 25th, is the newest member of the Charlotte Knights 400-Hit Club. He recorded his 400th career Charlotte Knights hit in the top of the seventh inning of the game on August 13th against the Lehigh Valley Iron- Pigs from Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA. Since then, he has tallied a total of 404 hits for his career. Bourgeois is one of just three members in that club -- joining all-time Knights hits leader, Jordan Danks (449), and Joe Borchard (439). A native of Houston, TX, Bourgeois re-joined the Knights last season after playing for the team in 2007 and 2008. In 2013, he was named to the All Knights Stadium Team. He is just one of five players in franchise history with 300 or more hits (Danks, 449, Borchard, 439, Bourgeois, Yolmer Sanchez, 347, and Josh Phegley, (312). KNOTABLES: On Tuesday, the Southern League named RHP Michael Kopech to their annual Post-Season All-Star Team as the team s right-handed pitcher. Thursday, Kopech was named as the Southern League s Pitcher of the Year. He posted an 8-7 record with a 2.87 ERA in 22 starts with the Barons this season. In 119.1 IP, he has allowed just 77 hits while striking out 155 batters, which currently leads the Southern League. While with Birmingham, opponents hit just.184 against him this season, tops in the Southern League RHP Connor Walsh (0-1, 6.00) will be one of the Chicago White Sox players to represent the organization at the Arizona Fall League this year. He is the only member on Charlotte s active roster selected this year. ALL ABOUT THAT BASE: OF Jacob May is second in the IL this year with 29 stolen bases. Since June 1 (81 games), May has 26 stolen bases the second most over that span in the IL. In two seasons with the Knights, May has now swiped 48 bases (19 last year), which is seventh alltime in franchise history. He also a total of seven triples (two last year), which is tied for 10th all-time in franchise history. He currently leads the International League in sacrifice hits with 16.
