MKIII JIB REEFING & FURLING
MKIII OFFSHORE BOATS 22' - 100'+ (7 m - 30 m+) JIB REEFING & FURLING MKIII jib reefing and furling systems are modern and elegantly styled. Constant refinements to these dependable, raceproven furlers have kept Harken the leader. Today, they re aboard more than 50,000 ocean-going yachts, coastal cruisers, and around-the-world racers. They feature strong, light Air Foil extrusions and large-diameter drums for easy furling. Free-running Torlon ball bearings require no lubrication or seals and need minimal maintenance. Independent head and tack swivels shape the sails; tripleinterlock foil joints provide years of trouble-free reefing. BUILT-IN TURNBUCKLE to make installation and mast tuning easy. Designed to handle side loads, the turnbuckle s nickel-plated silicon bronze and stainless steel construction is seize resistant. TORLON BALL BEARINGS require no lubrication or isolating seals. The multiple races and large diameter Torlon bearings minimize friction even under extreme reefing loads. STAINLESS STEEL FEEDERS are shaped and finished for quick single-handed hoisting and fast sail changes. Molded lightweight prefeeder attach- EXISTING ROD OR WIRE HEADSTAY easily accepts foils and maintains the integrity of your rig. TAPERED TORQUE TUBE minimizes sail stretch and wrinkles when reefing or furling. LARGE INNER SPOOL DIAMETER increases mechanical advantage, to give more power for reefing and furling. MOLDED SPLIT DRUM on all units for easy race conversion. Spool and cover are lightweight, corrosion-free, and less susceptible to chain and anchor damage. PRESSURE-CAST ALUUM LINE GUARD provides easy line access. Line guard removes quickly and resists anchor dents. Deep penetrating black Hardkote anodizing adds years of corrosion resistance. NEW ENGLAND STA-SET black line is low stretch, abrasion and UV resistant, and enhances the monochromatic elegance of the product. Standard on units to 2.5.
AIR SWIVELS are light and small to reduce windage and weight aloft. They turn freely on computer-designed bearing races. BEARING SHIELDS protect Air Swivel and tack bearings from UV and dirt. BEARING SYSTEMS handle multi-directional loading. Multiple races evenly distribute radial and thrust loads to balls. Foils turn freely under halyard loads. INDEPENDENT SWIVELS furl the center of the sail before the head and tack to reduce draft for a better sail shape. LIGHTWEIGHT AERODYNAMIC FOILS handle extreme reefing loads and maintain proper airflow to your genoa. ADAPTS TO SWAGE, ROD, NORSEMAN OR STA-LOK TERALS For easy installation, use our long swage stud with existing wire headstay. Norseman or Sta-Lok fittings are favored for extended cruising in tropical saltwater areas. Rod terminals adapt the furlers to low stretch rod. FOIL CONNECTORS are Hardkoteanodized with Teflon impregnation to isolate materials, reduce connector wear and lubricate the foil system. The circular shape reduces weight and foil size. TRIPLE-INTERLOCK FOIL JOINTS withstand years of torque loading. Connectors are shaped to match extrusions; screws secure the connectors; adhesive removes point loading from the screws. RACING All MKIII furling systems convert to racing. Simply remove the drum and lower the halyard swivel to clear the twin groove foil for sail changes. The Air Foil -shaped extrusion gives you racing performance round foils can never offer. Foil tops are clean and completely cover the headstay for maximum luff lengths. INSTALLATION Harken furling units are designed for owner installation, and can be assembled using simple hand tools. Picture-book-style instruction manuals make assembly easy. MKIII jib reefing and furling systems are covered by a seven-year limited warranty. Expert service and parts are available from Harken s worldwide distributor and dealer network.
