BELIEVE IT! ACHIEVE IT! History of Shrek By Kirsten Bleming In March, audiences all over Delran will see the Delran Middle Schools play Shrek! We all know and love the famous green ogre, but there are some things we didn t know about his rise to stardom. Did you know that Shrek was once a 1990 s children s book by William Steig. The book became so popular, William gave the Dreamworks studios permission to make a blockbuster hit based on his book. But the film s plot was a little different from the one we know. Originally, Shrek was a teenaged ogre who didn t want to follow his family s footsteps, and dreamed on becoming a knight. Pretty different, huh? And guess who was originally meant to voice Shrek? Nicolas Cage! Later on, Mike Myers brought the character to life, along with Eddie Murphy as Donkey and Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona. And with these talents, Shrek won the Academy Award for Best-adapted Screenplay. Who knew that the most famous ogre of all time had all these secrets about his movies and fame?

Issue 3, Year 35 MARCH 2016 DMS Performs Shrek Jr. COME SEE THE SHOW! Friday, March 18 th at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 19 th at 1:30 p.m. & 7 p.m. Sunday, March 20 th at 1:30 p.m. Miss Answers, I need advice! This guy asked me out, and I really like him, but I m not allowed to date. My parents think I am not responsible enough, but I think they re overprotective. Should I do what I want, or reject my crush?!? From, Crushing Hearts Dear Crushing Hearts, It s really your decision. Keep in mind that your boyfriend now will probably not marry you. Your parents only want the best for you, even though it may not seem like it. If you date the guy, be prepared to take on the consequences that come with it. Sincerely, Miss Answers

Issue 3, Year 35 MARCH 2016 Shrek Forever After By Peter Duncovich Shrek Forever After is the 4 and final installment in the Shrek series. Rumpelstiltskin convinces Shrek (who is in a mid-life crisis) to be erased from existence. Also has Rumpelstiltskin become a dark and crude ruler? This is a fun family movie for everyone. Including Mike Myers as Shrek and Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and all your other favorite characters from the Shrek franchise. This comedy is ninety-three minutes long, and is well worth it. Even if you're not a Disney fan, or comedy fan, you should try this final movie in the Shrek series. Shrek The Third By Zach Kennedy The enthralling third movie, Shrek The Third, is not only touching, but also hilarious. This movie, in my personal opinion, is the best of the Shrek movies. It is perfect for a family movie night. It has a hysterical plot from beginning to end. I highly recommend it to anyone who savors an extremely funny, familyfriendly comedy. One hour, thirty minutes, and a bowl of popcorn is all a person needs to enjoy this movie.

Issue 3, Year 35 MARCH 2016 On Broadway By Gabrielle Moseley Shrek the Musical was on Broadway from December 14, 2008 to January 3rd, 2010, which is around 55 weeks. It was 2 hours and 30 minutes long with 1 intermission. It was accepted by all fairly well, critics and the public. Joe Dziemianowicz from the New York Daily News said, Every fairytale needs a fab far, far away, and the lavish sets and costumes by Tim Hatley take you there in suitably cartoonish, Technicolor style. (www.broadway.com) Joe wasn t the only one who felt that way. Elysa Gardner from USA Today claimed, The most ingeniously wacky, transcendently tasteless Broadway musical since The Producers. Altogether irresistible! The musical accumulated a total gross of $46,361,426. This is impressive, but to put the amount into perspective, The Phantom of the Opera has the record for the musical that grossed the most money with $3.3 billion. (www.playbillvault.com As a last thought, according to IMDb, the movie Shrek the Musical was rated 7.2 out of 10 by the users. (1,411 users rated.) Come to the DMS musical and see how you would rate our show! In the Classroom By Hayley Anderson and Kylie Pietras We all know that big, green, ogre named Shrek. In fact, he s one of the many characters in Shrek Jr., the spring play. But what if we learned about him in school? Mrs. Talarico is one of the teachers who are including the upcoming play into her teaching. Mrs. Talarico and her students were learning about characterization. They watched Shrek (the movie) and evaluated the characters using the acronym: STEAL. The S stands for speech, T for thoughts, E for effect on others, A for actions or behavior, and lastly, L for looks or appearance. By doing this, the students were able to learn about each individual character and their personalities. All of the students loved it. Mrs. Talarico is requesting a script of the upcoming play to use for her lessons on the elements of drama. Many of our own DMS students are participating in the spring play, including many of Mrs. Talarico s students. Mrs. Talarico states she will be attending the play and, wouldn t miss it for the world. Dance Club Assists With Mob Flash Dance By Saaki Ray Are you ready for our school s performance of Shrek Jr.? The dance club practiced a performance since the beginning of December. The performance was to the song, I m a Believer. All the choreography was decided and the dancers practiced hard. DMS performed this dance as part of the mob flash dance. Even the channel 6 news was here to witness everyone s hard work. Way to go DMS!
