THE AMAZING MAASAI MARATHON, LAIKIPIA, KENYA, 2015 Dear Runners, It gives us great pleasure to welcome you to the Amazing Maasai Marathon 2015. We think this is a very amazing race for a number of reasons Its small and its friendly. Our hosts are the Laikipia Maasai and they bring real culture and colour to the event not to mention wonderful charm and hospitality It s run in a beautiful location - Kimanjo in Northern Laikipia. The views are truly majestic and the route runs from view point to view point with, as our backdrops, Mount Kenya on one side and the Ewaso escarpments on the other. The area has abundant wildlife and it s nice to run surrounded by antelope, zebra and giraffe. We saw leopard on the first route reconnaissance of this year and our site has consistently had elephant passing through. It s sure to be hot. Rich green if it rains but desert dusty if it doesn t. In addition the races are at altitude (6000 feet asl) and on dirt roads, and sometimes off them. These factors make the event uniquely African. And Challenging!!! And last but by no means least The race makes a difference. It raises funds to assist Maasai girls through secondary school education. Currently the Amazing Girls project have 45 Girls in secondary school and the oldest are to graduate later this year. The aim this year is to raise sufficient funds to help these graduating girls in further education and to introduce a further 10 girls into the scheme. With your support we will. So, in advance, thank you. This guide should answer all your queries regarding the event, the entry and booking procedures, but please don t hesitate to contact us if it doesn t. We look forward to meeting you in Laikipia. Sincerely, Michael Hughes Event Director
