Day of Dance & Spin Session 2015 Information Who Can Participate The Day of Dance is open to anyone in grades 2 11. No dance experience is required. What to Wear Participants should wear tennis shoes, dance sneakers, or jazz shoes and comfortable athletic clothing or dance wear that they can move and stretch in (for example: shorts and t-shirt or dance pants and a tank). Participants will be given a t-shirt upon registration and are asked to wear their t-shirt for the duration of the clinic. All participants will wear their t-shirt for the parent performance and closing activities. What to Bring Water and light snacks will be provided throughout the day for participants. However, we recommend you bring water or Gatorade and a couple snacks of your own if needed. We will take frequent breaks throughout the day to make sure everyone stays hydrated and energized. Parents & Transportation Participants should be sure to arrange for transportation to and from the clinic, as well as arrange for transportation during the lunch break. We ask that everyone make an effort to be punctual. Parents are welcome to come and go throughout the duration of the clinic and are welcome to watch, video tape, and take pictures. However, participants will not be able to come and go and are to remain at the clinic to participate in all activities. Participants are only allowed to leave for the lunch break. This allows us to keep an accurate headcount and ensure the safety of all participants. What to Expect The Day of Dance is meant to be fun! It is a chance to experience one of the greatest art forms of all time, DANCE! We also add to the fun by teaching flag technique, through a spin session. The Day of Dance is not a prerequisite to audition to be a BCHS Tigerette, Tiger Guard, or any other dance/guard team; nevertheless, it is an excellent opportunity to improve upon your dance skills and take that next step in making dance a part of your life. Never danced before? Never spun a flag before? That s okay! We will focus on beginner, intermediate, and advanced techniques, so there will be something for all skill levels and all ages. The turn technique stations will offer instruction on all levels of turns, ranging from chainé and piqué turns to single and double pirouettes, and progressing up to turns in second. The leap technique stations will offer instruction on across the floor exercises to help dancers strengthen their leg muscles and learn the proper techniques for leaps, then progress to learning how to do a basic leap and grand jetés, as well as offer more challenging instruction on techniques such as leaps in second. Dancers in grades 2 nd -5 th will participate in a pom technique class where they will learn a fun routine that teaches sharpness, arm placement, and basic pom skills. Dancers in grades 6 th -11 th will participate in a kick technique class where they will learn how to improve flexibility and execute kicks properly as a kickline, which the Tigeretts are famous for! The spin session will teach basic flag technique to all participants, using both swing flags and pole flags. After lunch participants will break off into three groups and learn dance routines that incorporate the turn, leap, pom, and kick techniques they worked on that morning, as well as lots of fun choreography. Participants will have the opportunity to perform these routines for family and friends at the close of the day.
