Dear Walk of Champions Team Captain Welcome and thank you for your interest in forming a team for the 12 th annual Walk of Champions which will take place on May 7, 2017 at the Quabbin Reservoir Goodnough Dike Area. As team leaders, we know the commitment it takes to recruit and organize a team, and we appreciate all of your hard work. Work that has resulted in helping Walk of Champions raise over $740,000 to support the Baystate Regional Cancer Program at Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center. Please take a moment to look over this Captains Guide which includes Important Dates, the Team Registration / T-Shirt Order Form and helpful tips. We encourage you to share this informational packet with your team members. Please note that all Team Captains must register their team no later than Monday, March 27, 2017 to receive T-Shirts with the team name printed on the back. We encourage you to register your team online! The T-SHIRT ORDER FORM must be faxed or emailed by March 27, 2017. Please note that all participants must raise a minimum of $50 to receive a T-shirt. Email T-shirt forms to michelle.graci@baystatehealth.org. or fax to 413-794-7616 It is the responsibility of the Team Captain to ensure that the Team Registration and the T-Shirt Order Form is complete and submitted no later than March 27 to receive T-Shirts. We have a great event planned! There will be music and friendship throughout the day. Food and other items will be on sale at the Walk, including NEW Walk of Champions merchandise, so bring some extra spending money and remind your team members, too! Team Captain Tip Sheet Thank you for your interest and willingness to become involved as a Team Captain for the Walk of Champions! Register your Team Online Recruit members for your team. Ask your friends, family, co-workers, classmates. neighbors everyone you know to join your team! Decide on a team name. Be creative and have fun with your team name. You may find special fulfillment walking in tribute of someone who has battled cancer or in memory of a friend or loved one. Encourage each of your team members to raise a minimum of $50 in pledges. Collect any offline fundraising Walk papers and money raised from teammates and turn them in on Thursday, April 20, 2:30-5:30 PM at the T-shirt pickup in the Administrative Building at Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center Team money can also be turned in at the Walk on May 7. Please note: Let your team members know that the Walk route is as short or long as they want it to be. They can walk once or several times around Goodnough Dike to increase their miles! One time around Goodnough Dike equals 1 ½ miles. T-SHIRT INFORMATION: Teams of 10 people or more will receive T-Shirts with their team name printed on the back if they register and turn in their order form by March 27. Please be as accurate as possible with your T-Shirt order. The shirts are not donated and represent a significant cost to Walk of Champions. Your accuracy will assure that the most money possible will be directed toward Integrated Cancer Services at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital. Please be sure that the T-shirt Order Form is returned by the deadline Monday, March 27, 2017. Plan to pick up your T-Shirt order on Thursday, April 20 between the hours of 2:30-5:30 PM in the Administrative Building at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital. Team money should be turned in at this time but can also be turned in at the Walk on May 7. Plan to distribute the shirts to your team members prior to Walk day. Team members must raise a minimum of $50 to receive T-shirts. Did you know... Since 2006, Walk of Champions has raised over $740,000 and all the proceeds stay right here to help people in our communities.
Fund Raising Tips Know why you re doing this. Be informed about why you are walking and collecting money for Walk of Champions. Almost everyone has been touched by cancer - whether through a friend, loved one or in their own life. The funds raised through the Walk of Champions will stay right in our community by supporting cancer services at Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center to help those closest to us. Use your Online Social Network: Have a Facebook, Instagram or Twitter page? Post, pic, or tweet about your involvement in Walk of Champions. Encourage all your friends and followers to support you and all your efforts. See how many of them you can get to join you when you walk on May 7! If you blog, write about your participation and passion for Walk of Champions. You never know who you will inspire! Be prepared: Always carry your walk papers and information with you you never know when/where a donation will come. Think about the errands you run throughout the week. Let your dry cleaner, personal trainer, hair dresser, or doctor know that you are participating in Walk of Champions and ask for their support! Talk: Tell everyone you know that you are walking on May 7 and your goal is to raise at least $100 as an individual or $1,000 as a team for walking to help to support for people with cancer and their families at Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center. There is no minimum amount you have to raise but it s good to set a goal more than 85% of individuals and teams that set a goal exceed that goal! Call your friends/family: Have you been meaning to get together with your friends and family or give them a call? This is the perfect opportunity ask them to sponsor you or perhaps join your team. Remember to ask your classmates, co-workers and even the other parents at baseball or soccer practice, too! Make twice the impact: Does your place of employment have a matching gift program? It s an EASY way to double your personal donation. Ask all your team members and donors to check with their place of employment. Your donations will add up quickly if they are matched Offer Incentives to Team Members: By creating a little friendly rivalry you can really build team momentum. Incentives such as car wash certificates, candles, a pizza party and more can help motivate your team. For corporate teams, consider incentives such as wearing jeans for a day, a month-long reserved parking spot, long lunches for a week the possibilities are endless!
