Kelvin Herrera and Wade Davis retired all six hitters they faced to close it out, with Davis earning his 17th save of the year...the Royals plated single tallies in the first and second on RBI hits by Kendrys Morales and Whit Merrifield, then Sal Perez added an insurance run when he laced his ninth homer of the year just inside the foul pole in left to open the ninth inning...merrifield finished the day with three hits, including a game-opening double...the win kept KC three games out in the A.L. Central after opening the 2-8 road trip with a two-game lead in the division. K-KLUB--Yordano Ventura s 10-K performance on Sunday was his fifth career double-digit strikeout game, first since matching his career best when he fanned 11 last October 3 in Minnesota...coupled with Danny Duffy s 10 K s on Saturday, the Ventura-Duffy combo became the first Royals duo to record consecutive double-digit strikeout games since the 2009 season, when Zack Greinke fanned 10 in a 2-0 loss to Texas on July 24, and then Luke Hochevar struck out 13 in a 6-3 win over the Rangers the following day. TOUGH AT THE K --The Royals return home winners of six in a row and nine of the last 10 here in Kauffman Stadium, just a tick behind the Chicago Cubs for the top home winning pct. in the Majors at.731 (19-7 compared to Chicago s.733 mark at 22-8)...dating back to last October and Game #2 of the ALDS vs. Houston, KC has gone 26-7 (.788) in Kauffman Stadium and since the start of the 2013 campaign, the Royals have the second most home wins in the American League with 156 (Baltimore has 167)...KC has not spent an abundance of time in The K over the last month as from April 25 through yesterday Kansas City played 29 games on the road and only 15 in The K... things are about to flip as the Royals will play host in 12 of 14 games from tonight through June 28, with the only interruption a two-game trip to the Big Apple to face the Mets next week...the big advantage comes in the final three weeks of the season, when KC will play 14 of its final 20 games in front of the home folks at Kauffman Stadium, finishing at home for the first time since 2012. BIG SLICK HITS THE K ON FRIDAY--Kansas City area actors Rob Riggle, Paul Rudd, Jason Sudeikis, David Koechner and Eric Stonestreet are hosting the Sixth Annual Big Slick Celebrity Weekend, benefitting the Cancer Center at Children s Mercy Hospital and will once again kick off their weekend with a softball game in Kauffman Stadium this Friday evening...other stars expected to participate are James Van Der Beek, Olivia Wilde, James Marsden, George Wendt, Robert Smigel, Will Forte, Kevin Pollack, Judy Greer, Aisha Tyler, Chris Daughtry and Kevin Rahm...all gates open at 4:30 p.m. with the softball game set to begin at 5:00. STREAKY SEASON--The Royals got back on the series victory track yesterday by taking the rubber game in Chicago to snap a two-set drought...it s been streaky to say the least, as KC lost five straight sets from April 25-May 12 and then won six in a row from May 13-June 1...Kansas City is now 11-8-1 in series played this year.
