Fletcher Hills Pool...The Ideal Learning Environment Fletcher Hills Pool is shallow the full length (25 yards) and is an ideal learning pool. Depths range from 3-4 6. Our major program emphasis is on swimming lessons for children, orientating children to the aquatic environment and teaching aquatic skills. Our instructors are American Red Cross certified and our swimming lessons are structured according to the American Red Cross program of swimming and water safety. Swimming Lessons Information Parent-Tot Swim Lessons: (6 months-3 years): An adult is required to participate in the water with the child. Swim diapers are required for children who are not potty trained. LEVEL 1: This class is designed to introduce parent & child to the basics of water safety. Water adjustment skills are emphasized & our goal is to make the child happy & comfortable in the water. LEVEL 2: This class is designed for the child already very familiar with & comfortable in the water. The instructor will focus on helping your child develop skills & emphasize water safety. Tiny Tots Swim Lessons: (3-5 years): Learn basic water adjustment, safety survival skills & beginning swim skills when they are ready. Our goal is to teach the tot to be happy & comfortable in the water, to be water safe as much as possible (floating & safety skills) & to learn a form of locomotion, usually a modified crawl stroke. Some tots only progress as far as water adjustment phases, others master a crawl stroke. We adjust our tot classes to meet the skill levels of the children & allow them to progress as far as they are capable. Swim diapers are required for children not potty trained. Learn to Swim: (6-12 years): The Learn to Swim program includes an expanded number of skill levels, which make for a smoother transition from level to level. Additionally, there are required & optional activities at every level, which keeps students interested in moving on to the next level. Your child will be tested for swimming skills on the first day of the session & placed in a class with children of similar skill levels. LEVEL 1: LEVEL 2: LEVEL 3: LEVEL 4: LEVEL 5: LEVEL 6: Children will learn to enjoy & feel comfortable in the water. At this level, students are taught the elementary aquatic skills & safe practices around the water. Children will learn water adjustment, floating, basic water safety & locomotion skills. They will work on crawl stroke, back float & treading water. Students will improve their crawl stroke & endurance, learn diving & treading water. They are introduced to rescue skills, safety & rescue techniques. Swimmers will be introduced to breaststroke, sidestroke & the basics of turning at the wall. They will work on improving their crawl stroke, diving, treading water, elementary backstroke, safety & rescue skills. Students are introduced to the butterfly, open turns & performance of front & back crawl for increased distances. They perform sidestroke & breaststroke. Students are introduced to stroke turns.
