President s Message August 2017 Hi and Happy Hot Summer weather at last! We had comfortable shade for our July field trip to Red Top. 12 of us left together from the Sunnyslope Park-n-ride & met up with two more on the mountain. We will have an Aug.18 th meeting & we will discuss the upcoming Fair & T-Shirts! Yep, we re going to get club t-shirts and need your input, color, sizes and such. The next day August 19 th will be our annual summer picnic. We decided to have it at Carol & Darrel s back yard, lots of restful shade, birds, squirrels, & a sprinkler! It s at 1104 3 rd NE, between Iowa & James on 3 rd st. We will furnish tableware, pop, water and chicken. Please bring a side dish for a potluck good time. Don t forget the Miner s 3 day Rally at Liberty, Wa. on the 25-26-27 th of August. And I will be handing out schedules for those who volunteered for the Nason Creek coffee rest stop from August 27-Sept. 1. Please consider letting Kirk Holman know if you can volunteer one 6 hour shift to our booth at the Chelan Co. Fair, we need help. All for now, Carol Here is the happy group gathering to head up to Red Top, looks like it was a beautiful day to go rock hunting! August Newsletter Page 3

Secretary s Report - July Ginkgo Meeting Minutes The meeting was called to order by President, Carol Smith, at 7:10pm Visitors were Lyle Litch, Doug Sherwood, and Carla Boatman. David Earhart gave a program on what is found at the Upper Dig on Red Top. He then told of using a cement mixer with coarse sand and in only about 24 hours of tumbling took off the outer, dirty, red dirt from his finds! Carol showed samples from both the lower and upper digs. Of course there is always a chance of finding Ellensburg Blues! ShowNTell: Pam Lander, Red Top finds (also a blue or two!; Steven Douglas, fossils; Ron Payne, Crystal Mountain pieces; Larry & Kim Fulkerson, finds from the Naches area. Kirk and Tabatha Holman brought nice refreshments. Pat Russell won the raffle and Lewis Reynolds won the door prize. Minutes: The June minutes were read and approved. Treasurer s Report: David Earhart says that we have $12,139.37 in the savings account and $323.57 in the checking account. His report was approved. He brought a flier from the Everett Rock Club Sale, mentioned Bobby Allen's sale and another by a past member, Ruth Williams, who is liquidating her collections in Monroe. Committee Reports: Carol S. has all positions filled for Nason Creek (Aug. 28 Sept. 1) except for Thursday afternoon/eve. Members wishing to help out may donate some homemade cookies to put out with the donuts. Some gluten free ones might be nice, too. Kirk Holman is starting to fill the dates and times for helpers at our Chelan Co. Fair booth. The club will purchase entry tickets to those helpers. Old Business: Carol is looking into getting club t-shirts, needs sizes. New Business: None. The meeting was adjourned at 8:50pm. Respectfully submitted by Secretary, Marcia Summers. Treasurers Report. July field trip to Red Top, as I see it! Nine members went to the Upper Dig on the Teanaway side on Saturday, July 22 nd. That involves a half mile walk in and not everyone wanted to do that. So, seven more members went to the lower dig off the Red Top Lookout road. And then David Higley drove around that afternoon and also walked into the upper dig. Oh to be thirty years old again. We all had a great day and the mosquitoes were few but the black flies showed up. Ouch! Club finances are in great shape. I have no bank statement as of this report. Marcia & I are vacationing, so see you in mid August. Won t see you in the digs. David Earhart, Treasurer August Newsletter Page 4
