HOOK + GAFF Watch Company INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATE OF WARRANTY Your new HOOK + GAFF watch comes with a 2-year warranty on manufacturing defects. This warranty is transferable. Serial Number: (shown on case back) Sold to: Date of Purchase: Sold by: Retail Stamp: PO Box 97, West Columbia, SC 29171

BORN IN THE SOUTH. DESTINED FOR ADVENTURE. Hook + Gaff Watch Company was founded out of necessity. In the field or on the water, the watches we wore felt too clunky. Aesthetically, they weren t nice enough for a night on the town. The lighter styles we tried could not withstand the abuse of our offshore fishing trips. Outdoorsmen and gentlemen are often one and the same, but no watch was suited to our rugged yet refined lifestyle. So we took it upon ourselves to forge something strong enough for our sporting adventures yet styled to exude a classic aesthetic. Hand-assembled by expert watchmakers in the Carolinas, each Hook + Gaff timepiece is meticulously manufactured to be reliable in the most adverse conditions. Utilizing durable materials like scratch-resistant sapphire and lightweight titanium, we have created a stalwart timepiece to keep you on course through all of your outdoor pursuits. Our designs are ideal for the bold and brazen who lead the charge and chase down the horizon. We ve proven that practical performance can look sharp. Now, we invite you to explore our range of elegant, Southern-made sport watches and strap on a Hook + Gaff watch for your next adventure. Michael Sims, President, Hook + Gaff 4 q

45 15 OPERATING A SCREW-DOWN CROWN ALL MODELS The majority of our watches feature a unique left-side crown placement designed for comfort in active angling conditions. These crowns operate as screw-down crowns, keeping your watch watertight to a minimum rating of 0 meters. The screw-down crown functions as follows: Unscrew the crown by turning counterclockwise until it releases to the operating position. Depending on your watch model as described in the following sections, you will be able to set the time/date and other functions from the operating position. Screw your crown back down until it is tight against the case. To do this, you must push the crown in against the case while screwing it clockwise to engage the threads, then continue until tight. 1 60 55 5 50 40 2 35 TITANIUM 0 METERS 30 25 q 5

IMPORTANT NOTE! MODELS WITH DATE FUNCTION Your watch may have a date window located in a different position on the dial than the one shown opposite. However, the information regarding the quick date set will be the same for all models with a date indicator. To avoid damage to your watch, please take note and do not attempt to perform the quick date set between the readings of p.m. and 2 a.m. You will notice that the date wheel begins the process of turning as the hands approach midnight. Manually attempting to set the date between these readings can lead to damage to gears that are engaging to automatically turn the date wheel at that time. See page for more details. 6 q

45 40 15 SETTING THE DATE TIME / DATE MODELS Unscrew the crown and pull out to position II as shown. (The watch will continue to run in this position) Turn the crown clockwise to reach the desired date. Push the crown back in to position I. Apply pressure and screw down clockwise until tight. NOTE: When attempting to perform a quick date set between the hours of p.m. and 2 a.m., change the time to a reading that does not fall within this time period. Set to the correct date. Then go back and set to the correct time. This will protect the gears in the movement. 1 60 2 III II I 50 55 5 3 35 TITANIUM 0 METERS 30 25 q

READING YOUR MOONPHASE WATCH MOONPHASE MODELS The moonphase indicator on your watch gives an approximation of the actual moon phase as you see it in the sky. The moon completes a full lunar cycle every 29.5 days. On Hook + Gaff watches, the moon moves across the indicator from right to left. During the first days of lunation, the leading edge of the moon appears as a crescent on the right side. Halfway through lunation, the moon will appear full (in the center of the indicator). The moon wanes and finally disappears beyond the left terminator during the end of lunation, indicating a new moon. q 9

45 TITANIUM 15 SETTING YOUR MOONPHASE WATCH MOONPHASE MODELS Setting your watch may require several minutes. Find out the current phase of the moon before beginning. Unscrew the crown by turning it counterclockwise, then pull the crown out to position III. Turning the crown counterclockwise will move the time forward. When the hour hand passes :00, indicating AM, the moon/date will change simultaneously, with the moon moving one position to the left. Continue this process until the moon reaches the desired position, indicating approximate phase. Set your time and date upon reaching the desired moonphase position. Remember to complete another -hour rotation to reach PM time. NOTE: When attempting to perform a quick date set betwee n the hours of p.m. and 2 a.m., change the time to a reading that does not fall within this time period. Set to the correct date. Then go back and set to the correct time. This will protect the gears in the movement. 2 III II 3 1 I 50 40 55 35 60 0 METERS 30 25 5 q

WATER RESISTANCE All Hook + Gaff watches are designed with a minimum water-resistance rating of 0 meters (660ft/ATM). The term waterproof is rarely used in the watch industry, as there is always a limit to how much water pressure a certain watch can handle. The term waterproof implies that a watch will not leak under any conditions and that no amount of moisture will permeate the case. We refer to a watch s ability to withstand pressure as water resistance, and the resistance is tested and indicated by the manufacturer. Attempting to adjust the crown while the watch is in contact with water will cause water to enter the case, potentially causing damage to the movement. All Hook + Gaff watches are designed with screw-down crowns, and it is important to ensure the crown is screwed down tightly against the case and locked before allowing any contact with water. q 17

WATER RESISTANCE MAINTENANCE TO ENSURE WATER RESISTANCE Proper care and maintenance should be taken to ensure water resistance. If you regularly subject the watch to salt water or are actively sweating in the watch often, the watch should be checked for water resistance every year. Hook + Gaff watches are made to withstand the elements, and the outside of the case and glass may be in excellent condition, but the only thing protecting the inside of the watch from the elements are small gaskets or O-rings. One rubber gasket forms the seal around the stem of the crown, and others are located within the case. Over time, especially when subjected to the elements and temperature changes, these gaskets can dry out and lose elasticity and the ability to form a proper seal. If you subject your watch to the elements on a regular basis, have your watch checked by a professional annually. REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND PRECAUTION REGULAR MAINTENANCE Every Hook + Gaff watch is designed and assembled with the utmost care and precision. Please take notice and review the procedures and precautions for proper care of your watch to ensure longevity and performance. CLEANING Regularly cleaning your watch not only affects the look of the watch but can also help maintain the function. Here are some important steps to take when cleaning your watch: Wash hands to remove excess dirt and oil. Ensure that the crown is screwed down tightly against the case to seal the interior. Use lukewarm water and ammonia-free mild soap to create a cleaning solution. Apply this soapy mixture with your hands to the exterior of the watch. Use an old soft toothbrush or similar soft-bristled brush for cleaning. Use clean, lukewarm water to wash away dirt and soap. Dry your watch using a soft cotton cloth. Precaution: Do not attempt to polish your watch with any sort of solution. This should only be done by a certified professional. Also, if there is any indication of moisture under the glass, the watch should be sent back for repair immediately. q 19

REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND PRECAUTION BATTERY LIFE Hook + Gaff watches equipped with quartz movements are powered by a battery. These batteries typically last 2 3 years or longer. A watch professional should replace a battery to ensure proper sealing of the gaskets. MECHANICAL WATCH CARE Hook + Gaff watches equipped with mechanical movements need extra care and attention. To keep from having to wind the watch, it is important to wear it at least once every 4 hours. If a watch is left to sit and stop, lubricants on the interior can harden and cause friction when the watch is worn again, resulting in damage to the movement. If a mechanical watch is only worn occasionally, care should be taken to either wear the watch every 4 hours or to wind it at least once a week. Precaution: Winding the watch may not immediately start the watch. Never shake the watch in an attempt to get it working. Instead, gently rock the watch to begin the movement. Or, simply place the watch down and give it a few minutes to begin working. OTHER CARE AND PRECAUTION After use around and in salt water, rinse the watch using lukewarm fresh water and dry with a soft cotton cloth. q

REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND PRECAUTION Avoid extreme heat or cold. Also, we strongly advise against entering a hot tub, jacuzzi or sauna wearing the watch, no matter what the water-resistance rating. The rapid temperature changes may result in loss of sealing capabilities of gaskets in any watch. The heat causes deformation of certain interior materials and can lead to mechanical failure. Avoid strong electric or magnetic fields. Take care not to subject the watch to extreme impact. SALES / SERVICE SALES, SERVICE + WARRANTY Sales and service inquiries can be emailed to service@hookandgaff.com, or reach us by phone at 03-542-306.
