Welcome: Welcome to the 2018 North Atlantic Conference Track & Field Championships hosted by Colby-Sawyer College. This guide has been prepared to provide information and answer questions related to the 2018 Championships. Please do not hesitate to call Lyndsay Ostler for any questions, and when you arrive please do not hesitate to ask any of our staff for assistance. Our goal is to make the championships the best possible experience for your team, coaching staff, and fans. NAC & Colby-Sawyer College Staff Contact Numbers: NAC Commissioner Marcella Zalot 207-649-7488 NAC Associate Commissioner Shannon O Brien 716-863-6758 Director of Athletics Bill Foti 603-526-3613 Director of Athletics George Martin 603-526-3604 Championships Director/ Lyndsay Ostler 603-526-3605 (w) NAC Sport Chair 802-688-8820 (c) Sports Information Director Ryan Emerson 603-526-3783 Assistant Athletic Trainer Meaghan Powell 603-526-3617 NAC Sport Vice-Chair Kate Goupee 207-973-1039 Pre-Championship Conference Call: All coaches should be on the call - Thursday, April 19, at 7:00 p.m. NAC Sport Code: All rules and guidelines set forth for the Conference Championship can be found at this link: http://www.nacathletics.com/administration/sport_guidelines/2017-18/nac_track Field_Sport_Guidelines_2018.pdf. Facilities (see campus map): The Sally Shaw Veitch Track & Field facility (#21 on campus map) is located at the Kelsey Athletic Campus on Kelsey Rd. This facility contains the outdoor track as well as competition areas for shot put, long/triple jump, high jump and pole vault. Mercer Field (#22 on campus map) is home to the hammer/discus circles and the javelin runway. Campus map: https://colby-sawyer.edu/pdf/campus-map.pdf Bus/Van Parking (see campus map): Buses and vans may drop athletes off at the track, but may not remain at the Kelsey Athletic Campus. Please know that this is a tight space so it is important that your

athletes are ready to unload and get off the bus immediately upon arrival at the track so additional buses can get down the road to do the same. Buses should park on Upper Campus (parking lot near the Hogan Sports Center - #16 on campus map). Vans may park in K-Lot or on Upper Campus. Should road conditions not allow for vehicle traffic on the morning of the meet, coaches will be alerted on Friday, April 27th and buses and vans will be instructed to drop athletes in K-Lot. Campus map: http://www.colby-sawyer.edu/assets/pdf/csc-campus-map.pdf Team Tents/Camps: Team camps may be set up on the infield of the track, but any team tents need to be set up on the outside of the track fence. Please make sure athletes on the infield stay clear of corners that officials need to see for events. Meet Shuttle: There will be shuttles for competing athletes and coaches between the Outdoor Track Facility and Mercer Field (hammer/discus/javelin location). One shuttle will be located at each facility and will return to the same facility so they will only be gone for a few minutes at a time. Signage will show where athletes/coaches should wait if the shuttle is in route. Entry Fees: $25 per athlete (unlimited events) with a maximum fee of $300 per gender/per team (M & W calculated separately). Please mail check or bring to packet pick-up. Cash will not be accepted. Late entries will be assessed a $50 fine per athlete and will not be accepted once the performance list has been released. Please make checks payable to: Colby-Sawyer College Please send check to: Colby-Sawyer College ATTN: Lyndsay Ostler 541 Main St. New London, NH 03257 Declarations, Entries & Wildcards: Declarations All entries will be considered declarations. As stated in 4-2.2 of the NCAA Rulebook, athletes must compete in each event in which they are declared. A

failure to participate is considered an assumption that the competitor in violation has abandoned the competition and therefore, shall be barred from all remaining events in the current meet, including relays. Relay team members will not be considered declared until the coach/relay team has submitted a relay card, so an athlete originally intended to be on the relay can be replaced by an alternate on the relay card and not be barred from remaining individual competitions. However, an athlete that has been scratched from individual events earlier in the day cannot be on a relay. Entries Both true performance entries and wildcards can now be submitted on Direct Athletics. Entries and wildcards will be due on Direct Athletics on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at 11:59 p.m. An e-mail must also be sent to Rick Berryman at rick@lancertiming.com to confirm your wildcards (name and event). All individual athletes entered in the NAC Track & Field Championships must have a mark in Direct Athletics from the 2018 outdoor season indicating that they have participated in the event they are being entered in. Relays will be open and will not require a mark in Direct Athletics. All relays that don t have a mark from the season will be entered at NT. Mile times run in the 2018 outdoor season may be entered and converted to the 1500m. Athletes should be entered in the 1500m and in the notes section for that event, coaches should list the mile time that they ran. Our timer will convert those marks to a 1500m performance. Wildcards Each school will be allowed four wild card entries per team (genders calculated separately: 4 for men, 4 for women) to enter an athlete who has not participated in an event during that outdoor season. All athletes being entered as a wildcard cannot use speculative times and will be listed at NT/NH/ND. Wildcards must be submitted on Direct Athletics with the submission of NT/NH/ND when you do your regular entries for the meet. Please specify in the notes section of DA entry page that this entry is a wildcard. All wildcards entries (name and event) should also be e-mailed to Rick Berryman at rick@lancertiming.com to confirm the wildcards that have been entered on Direct Athletics. Entries/Wildcard Example: Athlete Stephen Bennett has a season time in the 800, so that is a true mark he can be entered at (yellow box below). To enter him as a wildcard in the 400m (red box below), the entry must be submitted on DA with a notation for wildcard in the

entry note/additional info section. An e-mail with wildcard confirmation must also be sent to Rick Berryman at rick@lancertiming.com by the entry deadline of Wednesday, April 25, 2018. Example provided on next page. Competing Teams/Coaches: School Castleton University Colby-Sawyer College Husson University Johnson State College Lyndon State College Maine-Farmington Maine Presque Isle SUNY Delhi Coach Dave Heitkamp Lyndsay Ostler Kate Goupee Shawn Woods Hayden Bunnell Dan Campbell Chris Smith Robb Munro Timing: Lancer Timing will be providing timing and meet results for the 2018 NAC Track & Field Championships. Meet information and results can be found at http://www.lancertiming.com/. Implement Certification: Implement weigh-ins will take place from 9:15 a.m. 10:15 a.m. at the Sally Shaw Veitch Track & Field Facility. Long javelin spikes may be used on grass runway, but not on track surfaces. Protests: Protests that develop during conduct of the meet should be made at once and not later than 30 minutes after the results for that event have been posted. All

implicated coaches must be notified of the protest. A 15 minute window will be in effect following the final event of the day prior to awards for protests. Coaches will be provided with protest forms in their meet packet. Please direct all protests and any errors in scoring/results directly to the head referee who can alert additional coaches and the timer. Coaches should not approach the timer throughout the meet with issues. Games Committee: Any issues related to results, athlete conduct, or any other dispute which may require deliberation will be handled by the games committee. Any coach on the games committee who has an athlete involved in the dispute may be asked to remove themselves from the deliberations. The following is a list of the 2018 NAC Games Committee: NAC Commissioner/Associate Commissioner Athletic Director Men s Coach Representative & Alternate Women s Coach Representative & Alternate Head Referee Marcella Zalot/Shannon O Brien Bill Foti/George Martin TBD (conference call) TBD (conference call) Dave Cook Check-In: Athletes in track events will need to check in for their event with the clerk to be given hip numbers. Athletes in field events will check in at their event site with the official. The announcer will be making first and final calls for all events and athletes should check in at least 20 minutes prior to their event. For the 200m race, there will be a declaration period to determine if there are any scratches and lanes need to be filled. All athletes checking in for the 200m need to do so at least 45 minutes prior to their event. Athletes not checked in at that time will be considered scratched. With 30 minutes to go, athletes will be called to officially clerk in and receive their numbers. All athletes should be clerked in with hip numbers for the 200m with 20 minutes to go. Relay Cards: Relay cards will be provided in the coaches packets. Please submit relay cards at check-in with the names and order of your final four relay team members. Scoring: Individual Events: 10-8-6-4-2-1 Relay Events: 10-8-6-4-2-1 All team individuals are eligible to score. Only one relay team per school is eligible to be entered and to score.

Teams Eligible to Score for Team Championship: Castleton Colby-Sawyer Husson Johnson State Lyndon State Maine Farmington Maine Presque Isle Advancing to Finals: Field Events: Athletes will be added to finals until the 7th team-scoring varsity athlete is in finals. Track Events: The heats in the hurdle and dash finals will be determined according to the following regulations: Winner of each preliminary heat (regardless of team scoring status) will advance to finals. Additional athletes (regardless of team scoring status) will be added to finals based on time performance in preliminary heats until the 7th team scoring athlete is in finals If the above criteria does not result in all 8 lanes being filled, the next fastest competitors from the preliminary heats (regardless of team scoring status) will be added to finals to fill all 8 lanes. If adding the 7th team-scoring athlete necessitates advancing 9 or more athletes to finals, then two even heats shall be run slowest to fastest based on preliminary time. Awards: Individual winners will be awarded a NAC Champion medal, which can be picked in the medals packet at the end of the meet by a member of the coaching staff. All competing teams will be eligible for individual medals. A NAC Perpetual Championship Trophy, Plaque and t-shirts will be awarded to the Men s and Women s Champions. The following teams will be eligible for the team championship: Castleton, Colby-Sawyer, Husson, Johnson State, Lyndon State, Maine Farmington and Maine Presque Isle.

Coaches Meeting and Packets: There will be a Coaches Meeting at 9:30 a.m. at the outdoor track on meet day to review the day and answer any final questions. Coach s packets will be available beginning at 9:00 a.m. Hospitality: Hospitality food and drinks will be provided for coaches and officials. Athletic Training Information: A Sports Medicine Clinic in the Hogan Sports Center (#16 on campus map), will open for medical treatments from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The Hogan Sports Center is accessible from Chargers Road off of Main St. It is required that teams that are not traveling with an athletic trainer possess a written prescription from a physician or a note from their ATC to be presented to the Colby-Sawyer staff in order to receive the administration of modalities, treatment or prophylactic taping.
