StarBabies This class provides an early introduction to swimming for ages 6-36 months directed towards improving the child s comfort level in water while training parents in water safety and drowning prevention. One parent or guardian must be in the water with each child, which provides Red Frog For the child who enjoys water, gets his/her face wet, jumps in but can swim only with support. Focus: Body Position and Air Recovery Safety Skill: Put on a life jacket, float on back and kick 20 feet. Water Skill: Jump in, submerge, recover for air, roll and lay on back (kicking and finning) for 5 seconds in both swimwear and regular clothes. a great opportunity to enjoy time together while building lifelong skills. For the child who is not afraid, can float, jump in Youth Programs Starfish Swimming Starfish Swimming is the nationally recognized curriculum for swim instruction created by the Starfish Aquatics Institute. Starfish Swimming emphasizes water safety and encourages skill development by recognizing achievement as the junior swimmer advances his her skills. Sea Animal Levels Grouped according to swim ability, junior swimmers enjoy an innovative curriculum based upon water and safety skill benchmarks and fun. Swimmers are awarded colorful patches highlighting each level of achievement that can be proudly displayed on each junior swimmer s swim tote. White Turtle* For the child who is afraid of water, cannot swim, or will not get his her face wet. Focus: Trust and Submersion Safety Skill: Always ask for permission before getting in the water. Water Skill: Jump in, submerge, recover to side glide position and kick 10 feet. Green Shark For the child who can tread water for 15 seconds and swim freestyle for 10 feet. Focus: Integrated Movement Safety Skill: Survival float and tread water for 30 seconds. Water Skill: Start in side glide, swim freestyle 30 feet with 1-2-3 breathe pattern. Stroke School Levels For the junior swimmer who has completed Green Shark or meets the skills requirement. Colorful rocker patches are awarded for each level of stroke achievement. Level 1 Focus: Freestyle and Backstroke Safety Skill: Always ask for permission before getting in the water, put on a life jacket while in the water and kick 30 feet. Water Skill: Swim freestyle 30 feet with body stretched out and in consistent form, swim 30 feet of triple-switch backstroke, swim backstroke 30 feet with straight-arm recovery, body roll, good arm and body extension. Youth Programs Level 2 Focus: Butterfly and Breaststroke Safety Skill: Use flotation to reach or throw to assist a swimmer and know when and how to call 911. Water Skill: Swim butterfly 4 strokes with only 1 breath, then remainder of pool freestyle, swim breaststroke 30 feet with good timing and extension. Level 3 Focus: Endurance Safety Skill: Tread water or survival float for 2 minutes. Water Skill: Swim freestyle and backstroke 50 yards each with rolling-body motion, high-elbow recovery and body stretch, swim butterfly 25 yards with dolphin-body motion, straight-arm recovery and body stretch, swim breaststroke 50 yards with proper timing and body stretch, perform flip turns and open turns. Private Swim Lessons Youth Private Swim Lessons incorporate the same Starfish Swimming skill development as our group classes. Our Private Swim Lessons provide exclusive instruction directed towards the swimmer s individual needs, while also offering effective awards of achievement as the swimmer advances his/her skills. Junior Swim Team Ages 8-17 Junior Swim Team is a non-competitive team that focuses on building swimming skills in a fun and enjoyable environment. Swimmers work on stroke technique, breathing, diving and flip turns. Games and relays spark great conditioning and fun for all. Participants are grouped by ability. Competitive Swim Team Ages 4-13 Competitive Swim Team offers swimmers the opportunity to further develop and challenge their skills and enjoy the rewards of a cohesive squad. Novice to advanced swimmers will compete and represent VillaSport in official USA Swimming sanctioned swim meets. Junior Lifeguard Camp Junior Lifeguard Camp is an enjoyable pre-certification program for young teens on how to handle themselves safely in a variety of water situations. This is a fun camp to spark interest in lifeguarding and improve personal water safety. It is not a lifeguard certification program. Prerequisites: Your child must be able to swim 25 yards freestyle, tread water for one minute, and swim underwater for 10 feet. Performance Swim Camp This competitive swim camp focuses on enhancing performance through physical conditioning, technical improvements and mental discipline. Each swimmer will be evaluated and individually videotaped for analysis and improvement of strokes. Camp objectives include promotion of self-esteem, focus and sportsmanship that will last a lifetime. This camp is not a learn-to-swim program. Youth Programs Prerequisite: Your child must (1) be a graduate of Starfish Stroke School or (2) pass a skills assessment by the Aquatics Director. Prerequisites: Each participant must be able to complete 50 yards of continuous swimming in each of the four strokes: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle. Lifeguarding Review Ages 15+ This 8-hour review course is designed to re-certify participants who possess an American Red Cross Lifeguarding or Professional Rescuer CPR/AED certification, or equivalent. The certification will be valid for two years. Prerequisite: A current Lifeguard Certification. Lifeguard Instructor Certification Ages 17+ This course is designed to train instructor candidates to teach basic-level Lifeguarding (including First Aid), Shallow Water Attendant, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard Management, Emergency Oxygen Administration, Bloodborne Pathogens Training, Basic Water Rescue and Safety Training for Swim Coaches. Red Cross Courses Lifeguard Certification Ages 15+ The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and to prevent drowning and injuries. After successful completion of the course, participants will be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Prerequisites: Possess current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (Lifeguards) Certificates or have successfully completed a full or review Red Cross Lifeguarding or other acceptable lifeguarding course within the last 4 years. Successfully complete the pre-course session, including passing the written exam with a minimum score of 80% for each of the 3 sections and demonstrating competency in the pre-course skills and scenarios evaluation. Water Safety Instructor Ages 16+ The course content is designed to provide participants with all the water safety and drowning prevention tools and information needed to plan and conduct American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety courses, including Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn-To-Swim, Longfellow s WHALE Tales, Safety for Swim Coaches, six water safety presentations and two water safety courses. Prerequisites: Successful completion of swimming skills test to include front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, butterfly, floating and treading. Stroke and Conditioning Ages 18+ Stroke and Conditioning is for those looking to build their endurance and refine their strokes. This class will help lap swimmers refine water skills such as arm strokes, kicks and breathing. Prerequisite: You must be able to swim one length of the pool without stopping or holding onto the side with rhythmic breathing. Masters Swimming Ages 18+ Masters Swimming is a member-only program offering 1-hour coached workouts. Focus is on improving form, efficiency, speed and endurance. Workouts include drills, sets and technique assistance.
