NEBELHORN TROPHY 2018 FRITZ-GEIGER-MEMORIAL TROPHY 2018 Part of the ISU Challenger Series 2018/2019 INFORMATION GUIDE

Ladies and Gentlemen, dear Skaters, the 50 th anniversary of the famous Nebelhorn Trophy what a remarkable jubilee. It was in 1969 when the first edition of the event was staged in the way it is organized today. Since then, many very well-known Skaters, among them a notable number of Olympic gold medallists and world champions, have participated in the Nebelhorn Trophy. On the occasion of the anniversary edition, the German federation will organize a small exhibition in the Oberstdorf Haus in the city center presenting the history and significance of the event to all visitors and fans. Looking forward to the 2018 edition, we would like to make your journey as comfortable as possible. This information guide should help you prepare your stay in Oberstdorf. The 2018 Nebelhorn Trophy is again part of the ISU Challenger Series allowing to collect points for the ISU World Standing and the required technical minimum scores. As in previous years, the ISU Judges Examination will take place as well. In particular, we would like to express our deepest thanks to the International Skating Union for their confidence and trust. We wish all guests and the participants from all around the world a very warm welcome and the best of luck. Dieter Hillebrand Deutsche Eislauf-Union e.v. President Nebelhorn Trophy 2018 page 2 of 9

AREA Oberstdorf is located in the southern area of Germany and is the center of tourism within the region called Oberallgäu. While about 10.000 inhabitants live in Oberstdorf, more than 20.000 beds are available for guests during the year. As Oberstdorf was the first German community to close the city center for motor traffic, the pedestrian area is one of the biggest in the world (227.500 square meters). The altitude of the village itself is 813m; the highest mountain nearby, the Nebelhorn, is over 2.200m high. All kinds of sporting activities can be practiced there. Magnificent ski areas, more than 200km of wellequipped walking tracks in seven valleys, also being used for cross-country skiing in the wintertime, mountain climbing, golf, rafting and many other indoor and outdoor activities are offered. Nevertheless, one of the main attraction in Oberstdorf is the National Training Centre for Figure Skating. VENUE Two side-by-side 30x60m sized, fully air-conditioned ice rinks, one with 1.600 spectator seats and the smaller one with 600 spectator seats, as well as a 20x45m sized curling rink are the heart of the National Training Centre for Figure Skating in Oberstdorf. A dormitory school with 44 beds, mainly used by the German Ski Federation, a restaurant, a fitness center, a fully equipped center for medical treatment and a sauna are available for Skaters living there for a certain period of time. Many famous Skaters from Germany and other countries have benefitted from the excellent facilities, among them Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean, Isabelle and Paul Duchesnay, Norbert Schramm, Scott Hamilton, Susanna Rahkamo and Petri Kokko, Kati Winkler and René Lohse, Carolina Kostner, Tomas Verner, and Aljona Savchenko and Bruno Massot. Oberstdorf has always been the place for figure skating and since 1958, when the first summer skating facility was opened, the reputation of the center within the skating family has even increased. THE COMPETITION The Nebelhorn Trophy is one of the oldest and most traditional international events in figure skating licenced by the ISU. Organized for the first time in 1963 as an international dance event around Easter, it later on became an international competition for juniors. Since 1969, it has been staged in the way it is organized today. Hence, in 2018 the Nebelhorn Trophy celebrates its 50 th anniversary. After the Games is before the Games Being part of the Nebelhorn Trophy 2018 page 3 of 9

Challenger series, the Nebelhorn Trophy is traditionally one of the first competitions of the season on the way towards the next Olympics. The road is thus well paved for future stars.
