Royalty Rules and Regulations Age requirements: Each contestant must be at least 15 and not more than 24 years of age. The age of the contestant will be determined as of June 2, 2018. Contest rules: Contestants will have no contact with parents, trainers, and family members at the arena after the horsemanship portion begins. From 1 p.m. until completion of the ride, contestants will be responsible for their horses and their own well-being. Judging will take place at all times from 8 a.m. until the crowning of the new rodeo queen. Guidelines for contest and reign: To the extent that they do not conflict with these Rules and Regulations, the Guidelines for the Miss Rodeo Utah Pageant (the Guidelines ) are adopted and incorporated herein by reference. Personal standards for contestants and royalty: Contestants and royalty must portray the highest moral standards and set an example. During her reign, each member of the royalty will be expected to represent the Western Stampede rodeo to the best of her ability and will be a representative of the rodeo for the general public. Contestants and members of the royalty should portray excellent sportsmanship, high moral and ethical character, and should reflect careful humane treatment of animals. Personal friends and boyfriends are asked to stay apart during functions of the royalty until the banner is off. Contestants and royalty should speak intelligently with dignity and sincere interest in the Western Stampede rodeo. Each member of the royalty (Queen,1 st & 2 nd Attendants) agrees not to marry or become pregnant during the year of reigning. Each member of the royalty agrees not to use drugs or alcohol during the year of reigning. Each member of the royalty agrees that she has not engaged and will not engage in criminal activity. Disqualification or forfeiture of title: A contestant or member of the royalty may be disqualified and forfeit her title for any of the following: Failing, in the opinion of the Western Stampede committee, to conduct herself in a proper manner during or following the contest. Being unable, for any reason, to fulfill her Western Stampede obligations. Violating these Rules and Regulations, including but not limited to the personal standards, or the Guidelines. Disqualification/forfeiture may occur if the behavior or violation occurs during or outside of the contest or royalty obligations. A hearing with the Western Stampede board and/or City of West Jordan will be offered prior to forfeiture of title. If forfeit, title will pass to the next runnerup of the contest. 2
Royalty Rules and Regulations (Continued) Ownership of prizes: Upon forfeiture of title the contestant/member of royalty shall surrender all prizes, including but not limited to scholarship, tiara, banner, belt buckle and any other awards received. Prizes will pass to the next runner up. Title to all prizes, awards and other items given to the contestant remains in the name of the Western Stampede committee or the City during the reigning year. Title to prizes, awards and other items shall not vest in the contestant/member of royalty unless and until she has successfully completed the one year reign. Participation in other contests: Members of royalty must receive permission from the Western Stampede committee before entering any other rodeo queen pageant during the reign. Mandatory appearances: The royalty will appear mounted each night of the Western Stampede rodeo and must be available for television, radio, service clubs and rodeo appearances. The royalty must appear in various parades to advertise and promote the Western Stampede. Your reign will last from June 2018 to May 2019. Two excused absences from required appearances are allowed. Upon the occurrence of the third absence the reigning person shall be deemed to have forfeited her title, and all prizes, awards and other items. This is a full year commitment, which may require appearances during the year. One horse: Contestants may ride only one horse throughout the competition and the year of reign. The horsemanship horse will also be your parade horse. If the horse becomes lame or injured, a veterinarian s certificate documenting lameness or injury will be required before the contestant may ride a substitute horse. Royalty Rules and Regulations (Continued) Should I ( Applicant ) sustain any injury during the West Jordan Western Stampede Rodeo Royalty contest or reign, the City of West Jordan ( City ) and Western Stampede Committee ( Committee ) will be relieved and discharged of any responsibility. We, the undersigned, agree to hold harmless and to indemnify the City and Committee from any and all claims and causes of action for injury to person or property arising out of Applicant s participation in, or travel to or from, activities in which Applicant participates as a contestant or member of royalty. Royalty Contest Dates and Locations of Competition are as follows: June 2, 2018 Personality and Appearance Judging West Jordan City Hall Council Chambers, 8000 S. Redwood Road 8:00 a.m. 8:30 a.m. 10:00 a.m. Orientation Personal Interviews Speeches and Modeling Horsemanship Judging West Jordan Arena, 8035 South 2200 West 12:00 p.m. Horsemanship Welcome Setting of Pattern by Reigning Queen. Personality and Appearance will be judged on: Modeling: Judges will be observing the contestants for posture, poise and ladylike behavior. Greater emphasis will be given to the way a contestant carries her total western look. Contestants should be prepared to execute a number of turns and poses. Speech: Contestants will be required to prepare and recite a 2 ½ to 3 minute speech on the theme of contestant s choice. A penalty will be assessed if the contestant goes over the 3 minutes or under the 2 ½ minute time set. We are looking for creativity in developing a topic and the presence during the delivery of the speech. Points allocated for the speech will be included in the total points. The speech must by original and pertain to the theme. Extemporaneous questions: Require the contestants to think on her feet and show maturity, intelligence, wisdom and imagination. Horsemanship will be judged on: Mount/Dismount Controlled Pattern (not speed) Horsemanship 1. Control of mount and the ability to handle each situation that may occur. 2. Balance (ability to sit a saddle). 3. Position of hands, feet and seat. 4. Controlled presentation ride. 5. Horsemanship interview. 6. All phases of the competition. Contestants will also be judged on: Appearance: Grooming: This will include neatness and cleanliness in every detail such as complexion, hands and fingernails, hair, hat, boots and other apparel. Attire: The following rules of dress must be adhered to during the pageant and no exceptions will be allowed: Blouses should be western, long sleeved style. Revealing or transparent blouses are not allowed. No cleavage and absolutely nothing braless should be worn. Prairie dress should be western cut and long enough to cover the top of the boots. Contestant s awareness of what is fashionable, western dress, with particular attention given to how the contestant s clothing fits her and suits her personality, the length of her skirt, trousers and jacket, also the crease and shape of her hat. 5
Royalty Contest (Continued) Color Coordination: Contestant s awareness of how the use of various color combinations can enhance appearance and visual appeal. (Queen mount 25pts. Reg. mount 20pts.) Walk horse to start position in the center of arena. Run to the far end of the arena, stop and do ½ spin to the left no hesitation. Run to the opposite end of arena, stop and do ½ spin to the right no hesitation. Run past center of arena, do sliding stop, no hesitation, back over slide tracks to center, hesitate. Make a ¼ pivot to the left to face the left side of the arena hesitate. Begin on right lead and make two figure eights starting to the right; the first small and slow, the second larger and faster. Use flying lead changes. Do not close this circle, but run straight down the side past the center, do sliding stop. (Stop to be at least 20 feet from the fence). ½ pivot, stop, do presentation ride. Stop dismount and walk to judges for interview. Lead horse out of arena. 6
