RULES AND REGULATIONS ENTRIES CLOSE MONDAY 6TH JUNE 2016 Final names of animals must be supplied by MONDAY 20TH JUNE 2016 Please return the completed entry form to Mrs J Dolbear, NFASS, The Showground, New Park, Brockenhurst, Hampshire, SO42 7QH. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Lorry washing facilities are available on site for those who wish to use it at New Park Farm. DEFRA Regulations must be adhered to i.e. six day stand still or the current DEFRA regulations in force for the period covering the Show. For updated information please see the DEFRA website. Exhibitors wishing to take advantage of the reduced entry fees available to Members of the New Forest Agricultural Show Society must fill in a Membership Application Form, which can be obtained from the Show Office. RULES APPLICABLE TO CLASSES 1. Classes are open to pedigree and non-pedigree animals. All animals entered and recognised as pedigree must be registered in their respective official Breed Society Records. 2. Only animals from attested herds are eligible. 3. Exhibitors are asked to bring their animals CIDs (or passports) to be available for inspection. Proof of the animal s age will be required on the day of the Show. 4. British Cattle Movement Scheme Barcode labels will be provided by the Show for entry in cattle passports. MOVEMENTS 5. All animals must be brought to the Showground in vehicles and will be unloaded at the cattle lines under the supervision of the Society s Stewards. Animals must be halter led from the vehicles to the stalls. 6. No exhibit of cattle may be removed from the showground until after 4.00pm on the day concerned. 7. All bulls must have a ring or clamp attached to the nose and in the aged classes must be provided with a long chain and, if necessary, led with a proper stick. Exhibitors of bulls must also comply with the Guidance Note GS36 issued by the Health and Safety Executive concerning the safe custody and handling of bulls at Agricultural Shows, Markets and similar premises off the farm. All other cattle must be halter led whilst on the Showground. Stock attendants are responsible 6

for their own cattle at all times. 9. In classes for cows and/or heifers with calf at foot, the animal must be accompanied by her own calf. 10. No persons other than Show officials, Judges, Stewards and the owners or their representative will be permitted to enter the Show Rings. 11. Prize winning cattle must appear in the Grand Parade in the Hoburne East Ring at 3.00pm on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. It would be appreciated if any other cattle entered could also take part in the Parade on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. 12. The Society reserves the right to amalgamate classes as it sees fit. PROTESTS Any Exhibitor wishing to make a protest, having reference to any Stock exhibited at this Show must make the same in writing to the Show Secretary and deposit the sum of 100 which may, at the discretion of the Board, be forfeited to the funds of the Society if the protest shall appear frivolous and unreasonable. Protests must be delivered to the Show Secretary before 4.00pm on the day of the Show concerned or within half an hour of the class being judged. After that hour no protest will be received unless a special and satisfactory reason can be given for the delay. A Quorum of three, consisting of the Cattle Chairman, Show Secretary and a Member of the Society s Board of Directors, will consider any such protest and their decision, which will be given leave if possible before the close of the Show, shall be final. PRIZE MONEY 13. All prize money can be collected in cash from one of the two ICE cash banks located near the Show Office and on main Avenue North and they are open from 8.30am to 5.30pm. Stewards will issue winning exhibitors a prize money card which can be redeemed on the day (or sent in after the Show for payment by cheque). Please see conditions on the reverse of the prize money card. 14. Breed boards and promotional information are encouraged to help educate the public who are always keen to learn more about the animals. WASHING / CLEANSING 15. Water, milking and grooming areas will be clearly marked and used by no other stock. Exhibitors must bring their own buckets for watering cattle. Mains water with taps will be provided. No clipping is allowed in the cattle stalls. 16. All animals must be washed away from the rings, in the marked wash down area. MILKING OUT - MILKING 17. Sterilised milking units will be provided by the Show, these must be suitably disinfected between each cow. 18. The Judges are empowered to direct that any animal be milked out before making their final awards. 19. Exhibitors will be allowed to transfer to the In-Calf classes, any animals which they have entered in the In-Milk classes, which do not calve prior to the Show. Animals entered in the In-Calf classes, which calve before the day of the Show, may be transferred to the In-Milk classes. 7

CALVING 20. Cows calving at the Show: a. Animals which calve, or show evidence of calving, whilst at the showground must be placed in the approved accommodation pending their possible early removal from the showground. b. Where an animal calved at full term and the owner arranges for a blood sample and a vaginal swab to be taken and examined at an approved laboratory and the RBPT and microscopical examination of a smear made from the vaginal swab are negative, the animal may return to the Show lines at the discretion of the Show Secretary. c. Where an animal calves prematurely, or aborts, the Show DVM must be informed immediately. The animal must be placed in isolation in the approved accommodation and the full range of samples (including, if at all possible, a placental smear) should be taken. The animal will not be allowed to take part further in the Show and once it is fit to travel, can be returned home to the registered premises, or alternatively retained until the end of the Show in isolation and returned with other competing cattle from the same premises. d. All other bovine animals from the same registered premises will not be allowed to compete further in the Show until negative results from certain tests carried out by a Veterinary Investigation Centre (RBPT and microscopical examination of a vaginal smear from the aborted animal) have been received. They can be returned with the suspect animal at the completion of the Show. BEST PROMOTIONAL STAND COMPETITION A prize of 25 will be awarded each day of the Show to the Herdsman of the stand adjudged Best of Breed and herd promotion and general tidiness. Breed Boards and Promotional Information are encouraged to help educate the public who are keen to learn more about the animals. To be judged each day by a Member of the Society s Cattle Committee. ENTRY FEE: FREE ENTRY LINES COMPETITION: To be judged throughout the morning of each of the three days of the Show and announced during the Championship judging each day. 8

THE HAMPSHIRE SHOW CHAMPIONSHIP The following Shows are delighted to participate in the Hampshire Shows Cattle Championship, now in its sixth year. Alresford & District Agricultural Show Society, Ellingham & Ringwood Agricultural Society, New Forest Agricultural Show Society and Romsey Agricultural & Horse Show will be working together to create a Champion of Champions, Open to all Breed Classes excluding pairs and young handlers. Participants will be awarded points (see below) in each class at the Hampshire Shows. These points will be recorded, the animal accumulating the highest total over the season will be announced the winner at Romsey Agricultural & Horse Show. RARE, TRADITIONAL BRITISH AND NATIVE BREEDS Open to any breed of cattle who have NOT had their own class at the Show and to those on the Rare Breeds Survival Trust. Rare breed current list comprising Chillingham, Dairy Shorthorn, Gloucester, Irish Moiled, Lincoln Red, Red Poll, Shetland, Traditional Hereford, Vaynol, Whitebred, White Park and Traditional British and Native Breeds Ayrshire, Beef Shorthorn, Belted Galloway, British White, Devon, Galloway, Guernsey, Highland, Longhorn, Luing, Red Poll, South Devon, Sussex and Welsh Black. All cattle must be pure bred and registered in their respective Herd Books. NB Traditional Hereford are those with bloodlines descending from this original English population.
