THE MAINSHEET Vol. 36 No. 11 November, 2007 Cheney Lake, Kansas As I write this, there are frost warnings all over Kansas. Yesterday, when I was pulling my boat and buttoning it up for the season, it was 75 degrees and a number of members were out at the club sailing, putting up boats for the winter and our property Manager was busy winterizing the plumbing on the slips. What a beautiful fall day. Our next club event will be the Annual Meeting, November 18 at 3 pm, at the Afterdeck. I hope to see all of you there. In addition to the typical meeting agenda, we will have a biologist from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks to present a program about the recent discovery of Zebra Mussels in our lake. On December 8, the Club will hold its annual Christmas Party at the Afterdeck. Make a point to come out and enjoy the final formal event of this calendar year. It is always nice to get together in the Afterdeck with a warm fire and good friends. The Friends of Cheney/NSA weather station project is progressing nicely and through the generous contributions of members and friends, the system should be up and running by the Annual Meeting. So, this winter, we can monitor the weather at the lake while we wait out the cold in anticipation of the new spring and a new sailing season. Thank you to all of those who contributed their funds, their time and their talents to the project. And, a special thank you to Patrick Adams for the numerous trips out to the end of the jetty and up the crane to install and fine tune the equipment. If you haven t yet changed your Mainsheet delivery method to electronic, send and email to: Allen Johnson to let him know to switch you to electronic delivery. You can email him at: nsa_sailor@yahoo.com or drop him a note by snail mail to the PO Box. The list of snail mail deliveries continues to get shorter every month. This will be my last opportunity to write the Commodore s Comments and I truly appreciate the opportunity to have served the club as the Club s Commodore for the second time in the 26 years I have been involved with the Club. It is truly a great organization, made so by the many wonderful people that are now and have been members and have put their blood, sweat and tears into building and maintaining the organization. To the newer members of the club, there is no better way to appreciate and benefit from the club than to volunteer, get involved and immerse yourself in the club activities. We have something for everyone. Thanks again for the opportunity to serve for a second time as your Commodore. It has truly been my honor. I look forward to leading the Long-Range Planning Committee next year as your Past Commodore. See you at the lake! Meeting called to order at 7:05 pm at Quincy s - The minutes of the October meeting were approved as published. - Adams reported that the Lund was out of the water and ready for winterization and storage. The sidewalk on the north side of the afterdeck has been poured and new lights are being installed. The slips will be winterized on November 4, so water will not be available on the slips. The power washer at the crane will be usable but will need to be winterized after each use. Please bring a gallon of non-toxic antifreeze to rewinterize the washer if you use it after 11-4-07. Please remove perishables from your boats if leaving them in and remove all dock lines and hoses from the slips. Boats being left in for the winter need to be moved to A or B slip. Power will be turned off to slips C, D and E on December 1, 2007 for the winter. The weather station is in the final stages of completion and should be operational by the annual meeting.
