Roadrunner Activities and News Joint August & September 2013 edition Hello fellow Roadrunners, Sorry for the delay, first of all we are trying to improve the newsletter for you, with putting in more information from all of the relevant departments. Since this is a joint operation, we will be issuing the upcoming newsletters approximately a week after the board of director meeting, so we can fill it with the most current information. Secondly my secretary was on vacation for three weeks in August, along with several other needed helpers. The typical summer vacation time situation The Miesau club is having their annual walk this weekend, Saturday & Sunday 14/15 September. If you would like to help, please contact me at info@massey-gmbh.de. They could still use some assistance during the walk or for tear down Sunday afternoon at 16:00. Helping here will support the German/American friendship between us, and you would earn a Roadrunner friendship patch. Of course you re all very welcome just to come by and enjoy the beautiful walk, maybe we ll break a new record. Steve and I open a new bank account at the Kreissparkasse (our German Bank) in Ramstein. This gives everyone the possibility to transfer their membership dues directly. Paul will monitor the bank account and can credit your roadrunner membership directly. This will make it easier for you and for the Membership director; therefore, faster too! Kreissparkasse Account number: 105597207 BLZ (bank routing number): 540 502 20 Our Turkey Trot planning is on the way, we will have our Werbers (walk advertising flyers) by the end of the week. We will have them available at my office (Hertz car rental, Am Köhlwäldchen 7, 66877 Ramstein, between the McDonalds and highway A6) for pick up. We are also looking for volunteers, if you would like to participate and help please contact me at info@massey-gmbh.de. More info on the walk and the volunteer schedule will be in the October newsletter. Also we need people willing to help our officers and directors as an assistant. So if you are interested to becoming involved as an assistant please contact me at Ramsteinroadrunners@yahoo.com or info@massey-gmbh.de or more information on job requirements, etc. Patrick

We would like to acknowledge our new members: Jennifer Hastings, Patricia Tooson, and Sandra and Joe Metzdorf and family. Welcome to the Ramstein Roadrunner Family. If you have any questions about our club, volksmarching, or Germany in general, please don't hesitate to contact us. This month we will renew our membership data update effort. For those members whose e-mail address we have, expect to receive a message asking for updates. Some of you may receive multiple e- mails, as we do have both a primary and a secondary e-mail address for you. Please respond, even if you have no changes. This will let us know that the email address we have on file is valid. We realize many of our members have provided their business e-mail address as the primary contact method. However, our experience is that these e-mail addresses change without your control. We request that you consider providing us your home e-mail address, as this address will usually remain unchanged unless you decide to make a change. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated. Finally, beginning in September/October we will be offering or members, both new and renewing, a new way to pay their membership dues: Electronic Bank Draft. More details to follow. On Sept 21 we have a bus trip to Horn and St Goar. We ll start with a late morning walk in the Hunsruck at Horn (5 and 10k, 20k if you re REALLY fast) and then about 1500 head over to St Goar for their wine fest and wrap the evening up with a Rhine Aflame fireworks show. While we re in St Goar, you can check out the famous Lorelei. Save the date On Dec 21 we will go to Luxembourg City for their Christmas Market walk. Depart Ramstein at 0830, return around 1900. Details coming soon. For info and reservations contact Gene Behrends: E-mail: parrotdad@hotmail.com; (home) 06371-46.88.75 (cell) 0170-367-1573

The club is planning on having the club flag at the following walks: Miesau Horn Kindsbach 14-15 September, Lynne and Brad will have it at the control point 21 September, Gene will bring as part of the bus trip 26-27 October Please stop by and say Hi, it's always nice to see our members and get to know you better. This is also a good way to get your volksmarching questions answered. Car Pool Suggestions: The club is looking for some destination suggestions for car pools for the next few months. Your input on where you might like to go and walk as a group is valued. Send your suggestions to the Roadrunner email site (Attn Car Pools) and we will work out a plan. Recreation Center Brochures: We were just informed that we can start putting walk brochures back in the Ramstein Recreation Center - the new rack has been installed after an absence of many months. Starting next week you will find a limited number of walks advertised in the racks. Please take advantage of this as a source of walk information in addition to what you can find on Facebook or online. We've had a beautiful summer, and we're heading into a fabulous fall with crisp air, fall colors, and the need for warmer clothes during walks! Check out our wonderful fleece jackets and hoodies to keep you warm during the gorgeous fall walks! Our heavy duty fleece jackets come in sizes S-4XL; the price is only 37 euro or $50! We also have a limited supply of hoodies...a bargain at 24 euro or $36! In addition, we have a great variety of t-shirts, polos, and hats!

If interested, please email our sales director, Laura Ryan at fireweed39@yahoo.com, or join us at our next membership meeting on 17 Sep 2013 at 6 pm where Laura will have merchandise on hand for you to check out. Come join us on a walk or the next membership meeting and enjoy the joy of volksmarching! Here s how you decode the listings - you ll find the event name (i.e. Morbach) followed by the state or the country the walk is in (RP, Saar, etc) and the trail lengths if they have been published in the terminelist. Check on the web site in the Master Distance Listing Dec 09 for how far approximately the walk is from Ramstein. You still need to check the weekly walking column in the Stars & Stripes, the walk brochures and the official listing on the DVV web site but this will give you a start. We will also suggest some nice mini-trips for folks who are more adventuresome. The officers have done a number of these over the years and can provide information if you need it. Always remember to take your passport AND International driver s license if you are traveling to a walk outside the boundaries of Germany. You never know when the customs officials will enforce the borders and the fines can be steep. At best, the hassle may cost you several hours and much frustration.
