RMR E-News, February 11, 2013 A lot of good info today on this blustery Monday in Colorado! Several timely and dated notes below. Please take the few minutes to call and or write to your representatives and senators. Our Second Amendment is under attack LOCALLY as well as Nationally. Don't be one that said it couldn't happen...it CAN! We had an outstanding 11th Annual Service Group Shootout on Feb 2. It was a sold out event and we hit our goal of raising $30K for the three charities. Thanks to all who participated and to those that sponsored and didn't even shoot! Take a look at the RMR website and see the program listing all of the sponsors. Put FEBRUARY 1, 2014 on your calendar now for the 12th Annual event! GUYS!! Don't forget THURSDAY is Valentines Day. I personally think we should do nice things for our spouse or significant others EVERY DAY, or try, so the contrived date doesn't mean much to me, but I will still observe it! One of the best presents you can buy your Valentine, is a hunt at Rocky Mountain Roosters. This has proven to be very very popular!! Just sayin'... REMEMBER!!! We stop hunting on March 31st. Please don't wait to use your hunts until the last week. Plan some hunts now so you don't get left out. MAY RENEWAL MEMBERS...your hunts do not carry over to next fall. 2 of 8 2/11/2013 11:31 AM We continue to teach the basic pistol classes at Rocky Mountain Roosters for those of you that want to get your concealed carry permit. The next classes are March 16 and 17. If you want to get information or sign up for either day, email pistol@rmroosters.com and we will send it to you. The basic pistol class is a one day course that involves classroom and shooting on the range. The cost is still $90. As soon as the weather warms up, we will start holding the intermediate and advanced handgun courses. These all day classes take you to the next level of training and you must have taken the RMR basic pistol class or have your CCW to attend these courses. IF you want to make sure you get information about these classes, email pistol@rmroosters.com and we will make sure you are on the handgun training email list. THIS WEEK IS CRITICAL FOR COLORADO GUN OWNERS If you can get to the Colorado State Capitol Feb 12 and or 13, we need to show up in force to show the anti-gun folks that we value our 2nd Ammendment and oppose what they are trying to do to the law abiding citizen. Since the shootings in Aurora and CT, the anti-gun folks are looking for every way to put restrictions on our firearms. PASS THIS ALONG TO ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS! If you can't make it to Denver, make certain you call your representatives and senators TODAY!! To contact your legislator, click here. Please Immediately contact members of the Judiciary Committee On Tuesday, February 12, House Bill 13-1224 and House Bill 13-1229 are scheduled to be heard in the House Judiciary Committee in the Old Supreme Court Chamber in the Capitol
3 of 8 2/11/2013 11:31 AM upon adjournment of the House. HB13-1224, sponsored by state Representative Rhonda Fields (D-42), would ban magazines that hold more than ten rounds. HB13-1229, sponsored by state Representatives Rhonda Fields and Beth McCann (D-8), would prohibit and criminalize the private transfer of firearms. On Wednesday, February 13 House Bill 13-1226 will be heard by the House Education Committee upon adjournment in the Old Supreme Court Chamber, and House Bill 13-1228 will be heard by the House Finance Committee at 1:30 pm in the Old Supreme Court Chamber. HB13-1226, sponsored by state Representative Clare Levy (D-13), would repeal the current right to carry a concealed firearm for self-defense on a college or university campus. HB13-1228, sponsored by state Representative Lois Court (D-6), would require law-abiding citizens to pay a fee (or gun tax) for a background check when purchasing a firearm. We need you to come to the state Capitol on Tuesday, February 12 and Wednesday, February 13 to tell state legislators, especially those serving on these committees, to vote NO on HB13-1224, HB13-1226, HB13-1228 and HB13-1229. Without your direct help this next week, these anti-gun legislators will steal away your Second Amendment rights! Please come to the state Capitol in Denver no later than 9:00 am to respectfully protect your rights. For more information about testifying at the state Capitol, please click here. To contact your legislator, click here. Please Immediately contact members of the Judiciary Committee LIFE MEMBERSHIP FOR $300!! If you're not already a National Rifle Association member, now would be a great time to get a Life Membership. The NRA is offering a Special for the month of February 2013 for only $300. (I paid $750 for my life membership back in the 90's.) The current regular price for a Life Membership is $1,000. This special membership drive requires a one time payment of $300. With the Life Membership you get the American Rifleman, American Hunter or America's First Freedom monthly magazine, and several other benefits. If you have ever considered joining the NRA or if you are a yearly member NOW is the time to join or upgrade. This offer is not on the NRA website for obvious "press" reasons. Call (888) 678-7894 for membership. 5 of 8 2/11/2013 11:31 AM NEW MEXICO DEER, ELK AND ANTELOPE We have been hunting with Roger and Audrey McQueen and Trophy Ridge Outfitters in New Mexico for many years and they run a quality operation for sure. New Mexico is a state where all non-resident hunters have to draw a license in the lottery, they take care of all of the applications and the permit process. If you can draw a license, there are good opportunities for trophy animals. The hunts are fully guided with meals and lodging, but you have to draw a tag to hunt. The Elk hunts are $4500 and the Mule Deer hunts are $3500, plus licenses. If you would like to apply to hunt in New Mexico with Trophy Ridge and RMR, email us at hunt@rmroosters.com and we will get you all of the information necessary to get in the drawing. Applications need to be done and into us by March 1st, 2013. They also offer some of the best Pronghorn Antelope hunting in the west! You have to have a hunters safety card to apply for licenses in New Mexico and they take archery, rifle and muzzleloader hunters. The Pronghorn hunts are $1950. Seasons are Sept-Nov 2013. RMR Members took some great trophy animals this year. They have plenty of references. Take advantage of this fantastic opportunity to hunt in NM with great guides and super accommodations. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Coyote hunters have killed a wolf in northwest Kansas, the first documented wolf in the state since 1905. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that the wolf was killed in December. The animal weighed more than 80 pounds, more than twice as much as a large coyote. A Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism game warden contacted U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service agents. The federal officials confirmed through tissue testing that the animal was a full-blooded Great Lakes gray wolf. Officials say there have been several wolves killed in Missouri, most recently in November. IT IS BACK!!! THE RMR BRAIN TEASER Last week's question: After the Lone Ranger saved the day and rode off into the sunset, the grateful citizens would ask, Who was that masked man? Invariably, someone would answer, I don't know, but he left this behind. What did he leave behind? ANSWER: A Sliver Bullet Winner of a Rocky Mountain Roosters pullover: Mary Lee Van Dyke This weeks question: What was the name of your FIRST hunting dog? Or the name of FIRST hunting dog you hunted with that wasn't your own? (Not a trick question!!) We will pick four winners for $30 coupons towards a full auto detail from Renew My Auto and Tony Liddle. Send your answer to hunt@rmroosters.com
MR E-News Feb 11--Quarterly but TIMELY of 8 2/11/2013 11:31 AM BE CAREFUL!! We have had reports of several Mountain Lion sightings and reports of cats killing dogs on the western side of Colorado Springs. This picture was taken a couple of days ago inside a gated area near the Broadmoor. Stay alert. Carry a handgun when you are walking the dog! Cats are looking for food, and with the dry winter, the deer are out eating in the neighborhoods everyday. TWO FOR THE ROAD An executive was interviewing a young woman for a position in his company. He wanted to learn something about her personality, so he asked, "if you could have a conversation with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?" She quickly responded, "The living one." ++++++++ An obnoxious drunk stumbles into the front door of a bar and orders a drink, the bartender says, "No way buddy you're too drunk." A few minutes later the drunk comes in through the bathrooms, again he slurs, "give me a drink", bartender says "No man I told you last time you're too drunk" Five minutes later the guy comes in through the back door and orders a drink, again
8 of 8 2/11/2013 11:31 AM the bartender says, "You're too drunk" The drunk scratches his head and says "Damn I must be... the last two places said the same thing."
