Austria - Germany Tauern Bike Path from Krimml to Passau Bike Tour 2018 Individual Self-Guided 8 days/ 7 nights This route is named after a breath taking mountain range. But you don t have to worry: You cycle through the valleys along the rivers Salzach and Saalach. The bike path has a decline of 750 m from your starting point Krimml to the destination Passau. Every day you will see a few scenic highlights of landscape and culture like our snow covered mountains with a height of 3, 000 meters. You will be impressed with this magical landscape. Your cultural expectations will absolutely be satisfied. Riparian forests, small villages and the river Inn" characterize the second part to the threeriver city Passau. The magnificent and breathtaking bike trip will make you forget the daily routine of your everyday life. Recovery effect is promised.
Itinerary Day to Day Day 1: Individual arrival to Krimml In Krimml you find the largest European waterfall. On a well-designed trail you can admire this natural spectacle. Your bikes are available at the booked accommodation. Day 2: Krimml - Kaprun/Zell am See 60 km Your tour goes through the Nationalpark Hohe Tauern and Oberpinzgau, where you constantly see snow covered mountains with a height of 3, 000 meters. On this trail you have a fabulous backdrop with lush green meadows and small villages. In Kaprun you can visit the Hochgebirgsstauseen (highmountain reservoir). Day 3: Kaprun/Zell am See - Lofer 50 km At Zeller See (Zeller Lake) you can take a refreshing swim or if you are a very sportive biker you can still insert an extra round. You cycle through Maria Alm with its famous pilgrimage church. You can enjoy the lunch break in Saalfelden. Other highlights on your way to Lofer are the Seisenbergklamm and Lamprechtshöhe near Weißbach. Day 4: Lofer - Salzburg 50 km Today will lead you mostly through the Saalachtal. Bad Reichenhall, in the small German angle, enchants you with Bavarian flair. After a short distance you have reached Salzburg, the city of Mozart. The cultural offer will embrace you. You should plan enough extra time for a walk through the city and a visit of Mozart s birth house. Day 5: Salzburg - Burghausen 60 km You will leave Salzburg and its Alps. On this route you are cycling through the foothills of the Alps. The Tauern ends in Tittmoning and from here you have to follow the trail along the Lower Inn before you will reach your destination Burghausen. It is a magnificent old town and has the largest castle complex in Central Europe.
Day 6: Burghausen - Obernberg am Inn/Bad Füssing 50 km Today you cycle along the river Inn up to Braunau. This town is perfect for taking a lunch break. On your way there are numerous bird colonies. From here you can follow the bike path on the Bavarian or Austrian side. Your destination Obernberg has a well-known marketplace with Baroque buildings. meinbezirk.at Day 7: Obernberg am Inn/Bad Füssing - Passau 40 km You will soon you reach Stift Reichersberg, which is worth a visit. On your route alongside the river Inn you cycle through small towns like Schärding. At its Baroque market square you can take a break. Not far and you will have reached the final destination of this beautiful bike trip: Passau. The three river city has much to offer. In the cathedral of Passau you will see the largest church organ in the world. A river cruise would certainly be a grand finale of this wonderful bike ride. Route Technical Characteristics: Route Profile: The Tauern bike path is continuously and detailed signposted. The route leads through quiet and paved paths and country roads. Part of the time you will have to cycle on more travelled routes. A few short stages you have to manage on unpaved paths. The quality of the trail can be described broadly as very good. An ascending slope is hardly present in this variant and therefore the cycling tour is also suitable for families with children.
