Shelly Beach Surf Life Saving Club Draft Club Surf Craft Use Policy v1.0 Purpose To provide a framework for the use of Club surf craft that is fair and consistent, encourages development of skills and ensures efficient use of Club resources. Scope Applies to the use of all Club owned boards, skis and any other one or two person craft owned by the Club. This policy excludes use of Surf Boats. Applicability and relationship with Surf Lifesaving Applies to Shelly Beach Surf Club surf craft use from the date it is approved by the Club Executive until it is replaced by a newer version. This policy is subordinate to policies developed by Surf Life Saving NSW (SLSNSW) and Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA). In the event of conflicting information, the policies of SLSNSW and SLSA take precedence over this policy. Member refers to anyone using the surf craft, normally a member of Shelly Beach Surf Life Saving Club but also refers to anyone from another Club as specified in Use by Other Clubs. General Guidelines Club surf craft are for use by financial members who are suitably qualified to use the surf craft under the regulations of SLSA or SLSNSW or in training as permitted. Except as documented in Use by Other Clubs below. Anyone using surf craft must ensure to their own satisfaction that the surf craft is undamaged and safe to use before using the surf craft. Minors using surf craft must have their parent or guardian s permission. The interpretation of this policy and day-to-day responsibility for decision making relating to use of Surf Craft belongs with the Board & Ski captain for competition surf craft and the Club Captain for lifesaving surf craft. All Club surf craft must be cleaned before being returned to the board room or board racks. All surf craft must be returned immediately after use. 1 of 5

Surf Craft Care and Damage It is the duty of all members to ensure that craft are stored, transported and used in a manner that restricts or eliminates the chance of craft damage. It is the duty of all members to report damage to any craft to the Board or Ski Captain. Except where covered by Club insurance, members are responsible for any damage to or by the surf craft. The Board & Ski captain may, at their discretion and subject to delegated authority from the executive, approve the cost of repair and would usually do so if the surf craft were damaged as a result of storage, transportation or usage as part of an approved surf club activity, and reasonable care was taken by the member. Members should be aware of the limitations of the Club insurance, and the potential for personal liability for damage and injury caused by surf craft under their control. Use of foamies and fibreglass nipper boards Foamies and nipper boards are only to be used during approved nipper activities or coaching sessions organised by surf life saving, and returned to the board room after use. Use of Non competition Surf Craft These surf craft are for general use by members at Shelly Beach for coaching sessions, while on patrol, for water safety and individual training as long as suitably qualified. Use of non competitive surf craft away from Shelly beach must be approved by the Board & Ski Captain or the Club Captain For use in competition, the Board & Ski captain must give permission for the use of the surf craft. Use of Competition Surf Craft This section applies to competition craft (mals and skis). Permitted use Use under the board and ski scheme see below paragraph. or Use in competition or the last coaching session immediately before a carnival and with the approval of the Board & Ski captain. 2 of 5

Board and Ski Scheme The Club may operate a board and ski scheme. The scheme takes two forms defined as joint ownership and surf craft hire. Members taking advantage of one of the schemes are defined as participants for the purposes of this clause. The Executive may operate neither, one or both schemes in any particular season. The schemes are outlined as follows Joint Ownership Under the scheme, surf craft are purchased jointly by the Participant and the Club. The Club will own 51% of the surf craft and retains overall control. The participant will own the remaining 49%. The Club may also charge a bond and a fee for the season at its discretion. The Executive may insist on the sale of the craft at any time. The Shelly Beach SLSC has first right of refusal on the sale. It is the responsibility of the member to sell the craft and pay 51% of the final sale price to the club. The final sale price is to be determined by joint agreement between the board & ski captain and the member. Surf Craft Hire Under the scheme, boards and skis are lent out for the whole season on payment of a Fee to be determined by the Executive and may be kept by the member off premises. The Fee covers the period from 1st May to the final surf life saving event of the year (Typically Australian Titles). The Executive may insist on the early return of the craft. It is the decision of the Board & Ski captain whether to consider an application to join the board scheme. If a members application has been denied by the board & ski captain the member may ask for this desicion to be reviewed by the Shelly Beach SLSC Board of Management. Terms common to both schemes Member must be suitably proficient relevant to age and surf craft used. A member will only compete for Shelly beach. Member is responsible for all board and ski damage Member must pay a bond and surf craft use fee as determined by the Executive prior to the surf craft loan. Use by Other Clubs Use of Club surf craft by members of other Clubs is not permitted except as follows: In team events were Shelly Beach has insufficient competitors and other club competitors will be required to jointly fulfil the event (e.g. double ski) In extraordinary circumstances The Board & Ski captain may approve use by suitably qualified visiting participants (Training or Competition) 3 of 5
