Visible Learning Examples from around the school - MFL Mr Booth from the Modern Foreign Languages department is currently working on Process Success Criteria in Spanish. This involves breaking down the learning steps students need in order for all students to achieve success. It s based on the SOLO Taxonomy leading to a deeper thought process of students being able to piece the varying steps together. It is also helpful to know where exactly students get stuck in the process which helps with the feedback on selfregulation. Miss Brown visibly shows pupils their progression against the success criteria by showing ticks against the criteria as she progresses through lessons. Miss Covilar uses SOLO Taxonomy for pupils self-reflection. When pupils take assessments they are given personalised feedback that allows them to move forward based on their areas for improvement. My Experience Shadowing an Oxford University Student! On Thursday 5 May I travelled to Oxford University to take part in a day shadowing an Oxford student as part of a target schools programme. My morning was spent attending lectures on topics such as the kidneys and genetic libraries. I was also given a tour of Oxford University and Christchurch Meadow. In the afternoon I had the opportunity to learn about writing a personal statement as well as the application process for the university. I had an enjoyable and informative day and would highly recommend the experience to other students. Alex Corbett
Y9 Boys- District Football Champions! The Year 9 boys made it a hat trick of wins for Wolgarston in the Stafford and District Cup, with Year 10 and Sixth Form already winning their respective competitions. On a warm afternoon it was Wolgarston that took control of the game early thanks to a well taken goal from Alex Wingfield. Wolgarston threatened to double their lead but struggled to find the decisive finishing touch to a number of good passing moves. Blessed William Howard were a threat on the break with plenty of pace in their side, thankfully Reuben Powney and James Black were up to the test and kept the visitors to efforts from range. Wolgarston went into half time with a 1-0 lead and the lads were disappointed not to be further ahead. Thankfully it didn t take them long to prove the quality in the side in the second half with Cameron Jackson scoring a second half hat trick within 10 minutes of the restart, the goals were as a result of Cameron's pace, power and technical ability. From then on it was Wolgarston who orchestrated affairs with Alex Hallchurch and Sam Arthrell pulling the strings from central midfield. All that was left was for captain Alex Hallchurch to lift the Cup in front of the watching supporters which brings to an end an extremely strong first season at Wolgarston for the lads with only two losses throughout the whole year, the future looks very bright for this bunch of talented footballers. Squad: Sam Edmunds, Andrew Archer, Morgan Manley, Ben Wall, Reuben Powney, James Black, Ethan Woodman, Dan Lyons, Sam Arthrell, Alex Hallchurch, Joel Price, Harry Bickford, Alex Marsh, Max Perry, Alex Wingfield & Cameron Jackson. Football Referee Man of the Match: Reuben Powney Over the past few weeks Wolgarston has hosted its annual Football Referee Course in conjunction with Staffordshire Football Association, 16 of our students have completed the course that has included two full Sundays and two Wednesday evening sessions. Throughout the sessions there has been a specific focus on enabling students to experience what it is like to officiate in a practical setting, demonstrating their skills in a number of different scenarios. The course leaders from Staffs FA commented on how mature and enjoyable our students were to teach. To complete their qualification the students now need to referee 5 games over the months ahead. Well done to all the students involved!

Physiotherapy & Sports Massage Masterclass The Year 12 and 13 BTEC Sport students were treated to a Physiotherapy and Sports Massage Masterclass last week with a professional Armed Forces Physiotherapist. The students were given career advice on how to pursue a career in Physiotherapy, as well as an introduction into the wide variety of specialist areas that a Physiotherapist can work in. The group were then given a whistle stop lesson on sports massage which ended with them practicing their massage techniques on each other which some students enjoyed very much whilst others were seen grimacing in pain as their masseurs attacked their knots! A very enjoyable experience for all and many thanks to Tara the Physiotherapist for taking the time out of her busy schedule to come in! AAA Staffordshire County Athletics Championships Last Saturday two of our highest performing Athletes competed in the AAA Staffordshire County Athletics Championships in Stoke. Both James O Brien and Becky Lawley won their events. James became the County 800M Champion running a time of 1:55.6, he will now turn his attention to the Midland Championships which will be held in Nuneaton in June. Becky jumped 4.88m in the long Jump to win her event at Northwood Stadium. A massive well done to both students on their achievements!
