South Cuyahoga Sportsmen s Association Newsletter for July 2018 www.scsasportsmen.com Notes from Mike Fleas and ticks- By now I hope we all have our canine companions on their flea and tick medications for summer. This also applies to their heartworm medications. A veterinarian friend of mine told me recently that they are seeing a spike in flea and tick related illnesses in canines throughout Ohio. Better to be safe than sorry! Training in the heat- As the heat of summer takes over, just a reminder to confine any training to early morning or late evenings to avoid any problems with heat exhaustion. Anyone training dogs should make themselves aware of symptoms related to heat related stress in canines. Swimming-An ideal summertime exercise format for our sporting breeds. Our club offers two ponds in which our dogs can enjoy cooling off. However, always watch for health bulletins regarding possible toxic algae blooms associated with hot stagnant water towards late summer. By adhering to these tips, we can extend the lives of our favorite canine companions and enjoy them for many years! Attention Clay Shooters! Due to the Archery League Event-scheduled for Wednesday evenings through July 25, the Five Stand, Shot Gun Patterning Station, Skeet, and Trap Ranges will be Closed after 4pm. However, the Sporting Clay walk around course will remain open. If your Clay Cards need to be charged please contact Ed Coyne. New badge update Over 700 new green SCSA ID badges have been issued for Regular, Gold Card and Life members. Existing Youth and Associate members will continue to use their yellow badges. All new members will be issued green badges. It is the responsibility of all members to not only make sure they have their badges displayed when on club grounds, but also to approach and politely ask members who aren t displaying theirs to do so. If they cannot, just forward names and what information you can to any board member. If you haven t gotten your badge yet, the fastest way to clear up any discrepancies is to take a photo of your old badge with the stickers and email it to Ken Prince at scsa@npeinc.com. July Outdoor Pistol Match Schedule Our IDPA Outdoor Match will be on Sunday, July 8. There will be five stages of approximately 75 total rounds. Registration is open on www.practiscore.com Check in begins at 10:00 am at the Indoor range, squadding at 10:30, and a safety meeting at 10:40. Shooting begins at 11:00 am.
