The Flames are 1-4 all-time in the Peach State, with a 28-0 win over Savannah State in its most recent visit to Georgia (Sept. 23, 2006) and two losses each to Georgia Southern (1984 and 1996) and West Georgia (1984 and 1986). 3 - Three current Liberty players hail from the greater Atlanta area, including QBs Stephon Masha (Marietta) and Bo Swanson (Peachtree Corners) and OL Michael Henderman (Tyrone). The Flames have played four previous games in domed stadiums, going 0-3-1 at ETSU s Memorial Center in Johnson City, Tenn., between 1985 and 2003. Last Meeting with a Sun Belt Opponent Oct. 11, 2014 Liberty 55, Appalachian State 48 (OT) Boone, N.C. (Kidd Brewer Stadium) Jacob Hagen s interception in the end zone in overtime wrapped up Liberty s 55-48 victory at Appalachian State, the Flames third all-time win over an FBS opponent. Dante Shells enjoyed a career game at wide receiver, hauling in eight passes for 164 yards and a touchdown. D.J. Abnar finished with 29 carries for 129 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Kenny Scott recovered two fumbles, returning one of them 39 yards for a touchdown. Hagen and Tyrin Holloway came up with interceptions. The Mountaineers Taylor Lamb threw for 397 yards and three touchdowns. Today s Matchup Flames vs. the Sun Belt 3 Liberty is 1-0 all-time versus Sun Belt opponents, thanks to a 55-48 overtime victory at Appalachian State on Oct. 11, 2014. The Flames close out the regular season by hosting Coastal Carolina on Nov. 19. The Chanticleers will join the Sun Belt Conference in July 2016. Flames vs. the FBS Liberty has recorded three wins over FBS opponents all-time, including triumphs over Eastern Michigan (1989), Ball State (2010) and Appalachian State (2014). The Flames are 1-5 against FBS opposition under Turner Gill. Liberty lost its first FBS matchup this season, falling 41-17 at West Virginia on Sept. 12. Road Warriors Saturday s game marks the second stop on a season-long four-game road swing for the Flames, after a 34-13 setback at Southern Illinois. This is Liberty s longest stretch of road games since 2001, when the Flames played five straight contests away from Williams Stadium. Liberty is one of seven FCS squads who will play four straight road games in 2015, joining Bryant, Colgate, Idaho State, North Carolina A&T, Sacred Heart and Wagner. Coach and Player Connections Liberty Head Coach Turner Gill and Georgia State Head Coach Trent Miles both served as offensive assistants with the Green Bay Packers, with Miles working for Green Bay in 2000 and Gill following in 2005. During the 1990 season, Gill (Nebraska) and Miles (Oklahoma) were both graduate assistants at Big 8 schools. Liberty Offensive Line Coach Dennis Wagner and Miles served together for three years on Pat Hill s coaching staff at Fresno State. Wagner served as offensive line coach from 1997-03, while Miles was wide receivers coach from 1997-99. Gill, Liberty Wide Receivers Coach Ron Brown and Georgia State Defensive Line Coach Tony Samuel all served on Tom Osborne s staff during Nebraska s back-to-back national championship seasons in 1994 and 1995. After a 31-21 win over No. 8/7 Montana on Sept. 19, Liberty is 5-2 in its last seven meetings with FCS Top 25 teams.
