THE PEPSI OPEN INDOOR ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS XXIX The Presidents Regatta Saturday February 26, 2011 Pepsi Distribution Center at 2625 NW Topeka (Two Blocks North of US-24) Racing will take place from 8:30AM to maybe 3PM. Doors will open at 7:45 AM. All races are Finals (with Flights as needed) Events for juniors, college, and adults!!! Relays are made up of four athletes completing the 2000 Meters non-stop in 500 Meter Pieces. Final schedule will be available the day of the event February 24, 2011! Order of events approximates the schedule but will vary based on the number of competitors who show up!!! Please see web pages for entries posted to date!!!
Registration 1. The registration fee is $9.00 per individual if received by February 21st. After February 21st, including race day, registration fee is $10.00 per individual. 2. Make checks payable to: The Presidents Regatta. Topeka, KS 66605 3. Late registration on race day will only be permitted providing no additional flights are required. 4. The entry fee is non-refundable. 5. Lightweight weigh-in will begin at 8:00 A.M. on race day. Competitors who fail to meet the weight requirement may row in the open weight event of their class (space permitting). 6. All competitors must report and register at least 30 minutes prior to their scheduled event. 7. Competitors must include their best 2000 meter score on the entry form to assist with placement in flights, making each flight as competitive as possible. 8. If you wish to receive a schedule, please see the web page!!! Rules and Information 1. All events will be rowed on Concept II Model C or Model D ergometers. 2. All Masters races will be 1000 Meters, except ages 70+. All other races will be 2000 meters long, except the coxswain event, which will be 1000 meters. 3. Events with more than 16 competitors will be run in flights (not heats) of the event. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each individual event (across all flights) and to each member of the top three relay teams. 4. Definitions for categories are as follows (ages as of day of event (2/26/2011): Masters (70+) 70 years of age (plus) Masters (60-69) 60 to 69 years of age Masters (50-59) 50 to 59 years of age Masters (40-49) 40 to 49 years of age Masters (30-39) 30 to 39 years of age Open (any age) Junior D Athletes 12 and Under Junior C Athletes 14 and Under Junior B Athletes 16 and under. Junior A Athletes 17 to 18 years of age Lightweight- Women: 135 lbs. or below Men: 165 lbs. or below Under 20- Women Rowers who are 19 years old, or below, as of race day. 20 and over- Women Rowers who are 20 years old, or above, as of race day.
Open- Above 135 lbs. for women or 165 lbs. for men, not eligible for collegiate competition. Please note that there are no collegiate women s categories, all women will fall under the Open division. Coxswains- Women: 120 lbs. or below Men: 135 lbs. or below (Note: Athlete must have coxed competitively during 2010 outdoor season or be a novice cox to be considered eligible for this class.) Novice/Frosh- Varsity- Novice Men began rowing in 2010 or 2011 or are bona fide college freshmen. Open Men are all other men. Due to NCAA regulations, women will not he allowed to compete in the collegiate category. Please see women s under 20 division. Male collegiate rowers who are eligible to compete within NCAA guidelines (student is enrolled full time at the institution for which they are competing, and has completed fewer than four seasons of rowing, and is currently within five years or ten semesters of their first semester of enrollment at a collegiate institution), beyond their first competitive collegiate year. Due to NCAA regulations women will not be allowed to compete in the collegiate category. Please see women s over 20 division. 5. During competition, only one individual as cox/coach may be allowed with each rower. Any person touching either the athlete or the ergometer after the race has started may subject the athlete to exclusion. A foot placed on the pedestal to prevent a machine from sliding across the floor will be allowed. Any athlete letting go of the handle from an extended position may be subject to exclusion. Stay with your wheel until results are recorded. 6. Adjustments of heel rests and vents are the only alterations of equipment allowed during the race. Once the race has started, alterations may be performed by the erging athlete only. 7. A team points trophy will be awarded to the club with the highest number of overall points. All rowers representing a club team may contribute points for their club towards the trophy. According to NCAA rules, no female belonging to a varsity rowing program may participate in the club points trophy competition. Rowers must belong to the club they are competing for prior to the day of the event. There is no longer a university men s or women s trophy. Club rowers may earn points in any event in which they compete. Points will be awarded to club rowers on this scale: Place Points 1 st 20 2 nd 15 3 rd 10 4 th 6 5 th 3
Release and Waiver of Liability, Assumption of Risk, and Indemnity Agreement ********************************************************************* In Consideration of receiving the opportunity to participate in any way in the activity of rowing, I, for myself, my personal representatives, assigns, heirs, and next of kin: 1. Acknowledge that I have read and do understand the rules and agree to be governed by them. 2. Acknowledge, Agree, and Represent that I understand the nature of rowing activities, both on water and land based, and that I am qualified, in good health, and in proper physical condition to participate in the activity. I further agree and warrant that if at any time I deem conditions to be unsafe, I will immediately discontinue further participation in the activity. 3. Fully Understand that (a) ROWING ACTIVITIES INVOLVE RISKS AND DANGERS OF SERIOUS BODILY INJURY, INCLUDING PERMANENT DISABILITY, PARALYSIS, AND DEATH RISKS, that these Risks and dangers may be caused by my own actions, inactions, or reactions, or by the actions, inactions, or reactions of others participating in or around the activity. There may be NEGLIGENCE on my part, and there may be OTHER RISKS AND SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC LOSSES either known to me or not readily foreseeable at the time; and I FULLY ACCEPT AND ASSUME ALL SUCH RISKS AND ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR LOSSES, COSTS, and DAMAGES that I may incur as a result of my participation in the activity. 4. Hereby Release, Discharge, and Covenant not to sue any organization or individual (s) organizing the activity. This includes but is not limited to Top Row, Pepsi-Cola, The Board of Commissioners of County of Shawnee, Kansas, their administrators, directors, agents, officers, organizers, contractors, subcontractors, sponsors, volunteers, employees, other participants, and if applicable, owners, and lessors of premises on which the activity takes place, (each considered one of the releasees herein) from all liability, claims, demands, losses, or damages on my account caused or alleged to be caused or alleged to be caused, in whole or in part by the negligence of the releasees or otherwise, including negligent rescue operations; and I further agree that if, despite this release and waiver of liability, assumption of risk, and indemnity agreement, I, or anyone on my behalf, makes a claim against any of the releasees, I WILL INDEMNIFY, SAVE, AND HOLD HARMLESS EACH OF THE RELEASEES from any litigation, expenses, attorney fees, loss, liability, damage, or cost which may occur as the result of such claim. 5. I have read this agreement, fully understand its terms, understand that I have given up substantial rights by signing it and have signed it freely without any inducement or assurance of any nature. I intend for this to be a complete and unconditional release of all liability of the greatest extent allowed by law and further agree that if any portion of this agreement is held to be invalid that the balance notwithstanding, shall continue in full force and effect.
