(Incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act, 2009) (Registered Number: Y2086230) (ABN 31 936 733 882) PO BOX 3162 North Strathfield, NSW 2137 18 th August 2016 2017 NSW STATE TEAM SELECTION PROCESS Paddlers, Sweeps and Drummers Applications NSW will be seeking to compete at the 2017 AusDBF Australian Championships to be held at Albury-Wodonga (19 24 April). DBNSW is now seeking applications for those wishing to represent NSW in the state v state competition. All Paddler, Sweep and Drummer applicants (herby referred simply as applicants) will be subject to the state selection policy and must submit application preferably online or via manual form (available at dbnsw.org.au). All applicants must only apply for the division appropriate to the age they will be on the date of the Australian Championships (18 24 April 2017). Junior Under 18 Premier 18 39 Senior A 40 49 Senior B 50 59 Senior C 60+ Any request from the applicant to apply for different age division will be assessed on a case by case basis and approved by the DBNSW Board. Selection Activities All successful applicants will be invited to the first selection activity by the appropriate Division Team Manager as part of the state team selection process. All applicants are required to successfully complete each applicable selection activities to remain eligible for state team selection. Applicants who attend the first section activity (fitness test benchmarking) will be charged an administration fee of $5.00 per person. This will be collected by each Divisional Team Manager on the day of the applicant s fitness trial.
Applicants who are included in the current AusDBF Auroras squad at the time in which the selection activities are taking place will not be exempt from ANY of the testing activities. Any applicant who fails to attend the selection activities without prior and accepted notice will become ineligible for final state team selection. The first three selection activities will be utilised for paddler applicants with the fourth activity only applying to sweep and drummer applicants. Variations to the following selection activities may be modified upon the request of Divisional coaches and approved by the DBNSW Board. 1. Fitness Test Benchmarking (All applicants) The initial test will be Fitness Test Benchmarking which will include the following: 2km Concept 2 rowing test on level 10 - Time result to be supplied on initial application and random time trials may be conducted during the course of the campaign Push ups to a cadence of 45 pushups per minute Sit ups with feet held Chin ups The criteria for the above tests for each division and gender can be found on the bottom of this document as well as on the dbnsw website. All testing will be facilitated by Team coaches, Managers and individuals selected by the Board for their experience in conducting testing. A board representative will be observing the testing. All test results will be compiled and the top 30-40 paddlers from each division, both male and female, will be invited to attend the second selection activity Single Craft Water Trials. 2. Single Craft Water Trials (Top 30 40 applicants) All trialists will be required to complete one or more single craft water activities subject to a prescribed craft, time, location and distance. All trial attendees will be tested within their own gender group with both groups being tested on the same date in some instances. Invited applicants will be notified by the appropriate division manager of the type of craft to be used prior to the selection activity taking place (may vary by division and region). 3. Team Trials (Top 30 applicants) Applicants at this stage will be required to participate in up to two dragon boat paddling sessions where they will be evaluated on their performance and behaviour in a team based setting.
4. Sweep and Drummer Testing (Sweep & Drummer applicants) Sweeps and drummers will be selected by Divisional Coaches based on a number of criteria which may include; Results at club level Prior experience at state, national and international level Team suitability Consultation and advice may be sought from DBNSW Sweep Coordinators Group. Sweeps and drummers are not permitted to be paddlers during the campaign. Final Selection On completion of the selection activities Divisional Coaches will select up to 24 Male and 24 Female paddlers to be a part of the 2017 NSW State team subject to final board approval. Each division will select one male and one female reserve to train with the team during the campaign. These reserves may be required to replace an existing team member in the event they are removed. Divisional Team Managers will notify all applicants of their selection/non-selection prior to DBNSW announcing all squad lists.

Standard push up Pos for both Male & Female APP Required - Metronome M1 - Set metronome tempo to 90 to reach max of 45 Pushups Per Min. Feet held, Hands held at Ears for Male and Female. Elbows to reach thighs when coming up. Legs not to be used during upward movement to assist in chin up. Hands Positioned shoulder width apart with Palms facing away from body.
Rowing Erg 2km Time trial 2km time trial on Concept 2 rowing machine. Level 10 Result from screen shot of machine to be sent when appliying as first part of Fit test. Calculation used and has input of: 1-Time for 2km time trial, 2-Gender, 3-Age, 4-Weight. Calculation produces Single number. Results Chart attached for reference. Anyone who reached the required number of the repetitions will get 10 points (additional reps will not add more points to the score and athletes should not continue once the maximum has been reached). The points received from all exercises Points System calculation - Example Premier Male - Chin Ups - 10 (18/10=1.8-10/1.8 = 5.55 points) Sit ups - 90 (90/10=9-90/9 = 10 points) Push ups - 90 (90/10=9-90/9 = 10 points) VO2 Max Test - 52 (Add Result number to first 3 Points score) Total score = 5.55+10+10+52 = 77.55 points. (Calculations will be two 2 decimal points rounded up)
Selection Notes Notes 1. Selection will be made via 3 stages. Erg Trial results with photograhic evidence to be supplied to DBNSW when applying for the team. Stage 1 - Fit test - All applicants to attempt. Stage 2 - Single craft water trial - 35 Male and 35 Female invited to trial. Stage 3 - Dragon Boat team sessions x 2 - Up to 35 Male and 35 Female invited to attend - (Invited numbers at the discretion of Coaching staff). 2. Selection will be a combination of all 3 Stages and Coaching staff will issue final team lists to DBNSW for board Sign off. 3. One Male and one Female may be selected as a reserve and train with the team, but will Only be requested to join the team if there is a withdrawal of a paddler. 4. All teams to be announced Prior to Christmas. 5. Expect Stage 1 trials to start September 2016 ( TBC)
