LOS ANGELES DODGERS (15-18) at San Diego Padres (12-22) RHP Ross Stripling (0-1, 2.33) vs. LHP Eddie Lauer (0-1, 10.13) Sunday, May 6, 2018 3:10 p.m CDT Estadio de Béisbol Monterrey Monterrey, Mexico Game 34 Road Game 19 (8-10) Day Game 10 (4-5) TV: SNLA/SNLA Spanish/ ESPN (out of market) Radio: AM 570 (English); KTNQ 1020 AM END OF THE ROAD: The Dodgers had their three-game winning streak snapped last night with a, 7-4, loss to the San Diego Padres in front of a sellout crowd in Monterrey, Mexico. Today the club closes out its season-long 10-day, 11-game road trip (4-6) with the rubber match vs. San Diego in the Mexico Series finale. Following their flight home tonight and an off day tomorrow, the Dodgers begin a six-game homestand against the Diamondbacks (two games) and Cincinnati Reds (four games) on Tuesday night next week. The Dodgers are 4-1 against the Padres this season, following a three-game sweep in San Diego from April 16-18. Los Angeles outscored San Diego, 30-10, in that series. L.A. s success against San Diego the last eight years is clear: Most Wins vs. Any Opponent - Since 2011 Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Padres 89 (89-47,.654) Washington Nationals vs. Mets 86 (86-51) Kansas City Royals vs. White Sox 83 (83-55) SOURCE: STATS, LLC FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH: Dodger outfielder Matt Kemp went 3-for- 4 with a homer, two RBI and a run scored last night and his five home runs are tied with Chris Taylor for the most on the club. Kemp also leads the Dodgers in batting average (.330), slugging percentage (.549) and OPS (.917) while playing in 31 of the teams 33 games. The 33-yearold has 264 career home runs, which ties him for 201 st on the all-time list, one behind George Bell, Brian McCann and Matt Stairs. Kemp s next hit will give him sole possession of seventh place on the L.A. Dodgers all-time list. His 1,218 hits are tied with Steve Sax for eighth. THE MONTERREY STRIP: With Dodger left-hander Rich Hill unable to come off the DL today, the club will once again turn to righthanded pitcher Ross Stripling, who is set to make his 18 th -career start today and second this season. Stripling started last Monday in Phoenix vs. the Diamondbacks and lost, giving up four runs on eight hits in 4.0 innings. In his career as a starter, Stripling is 3-7 with a 4.46 ERA (42 ER/84.2 IP) with a.261 opponents average against and 62 strikeouts. Stripling has appeared in 11 games this year out of the bullpen, allowing just one run in 15.1 innings (0.59 ERA), while striking out 17 and limiting the opposition to a.211 average. Stripling is 1-3 with a 5.06 ERA (13 ER/33.2 IP) in seven games (one start) in his career vs. San Diego. His only start against the Padres was April 30, 2016 (4.2 IP, 5 R. 7 H,). DUGIE DOES IT: Rookie outfielder Alex Verdugo is making a good first impression in 2018, hitting.320 (8-for-25) with four doubles, an RBI, two runs scored and two walks since being called up for the second game of last Saturday s doubleheader in San Francisco. The Arizona native and Mexican-American had four home runs and 15 RBI in 19 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City before his promotion. THE YEAR OF THE IMPROBABLE: Next weekend, the club will honor the 30th anniversary of the 1988 World Series champions during Alumni Weekend May 11-13 presented by Security Benefit, with 16 members of the 88 club expected to participate in the weekend s festivities and the Alumni Game on Saturday, May 12. Fans will also have autograph and photo opportunities with Alumni at Dodger Stadium entrances prior to games on Friday and Sunday. More information on Alumni Weekend presented by Security Benefit can be found online at www.dodgers.com/alumnigame, while tickets for the rest of the Dodgers-Reds series can be purchased by visiting www.dodgers.com/promotions or by calling 866-DODGERS. WE SEE YOU OKLAHOMA CITY: The Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers are not only off to a scalding 21-6 start, but the boys from OKC are 14-0 at home, tying the franchise s second longest home winning streak since rejoining the Pacific Coast League in 1998. While this is the best home start in the club s history, Oklahoma City also had a run of 14 consecutive home wins from May 10-June 7, 2012, when the club was an affiliate of the Houston Astros. The record of consecutive home wins at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark is 17, established in 2013. Last night, the OKC Dodgers were sparked by catcher Rocky Gale, who belted two home runs in the club s 4-1 victory. The Dodgers took a trip to Monterrey during Spring Training in 1991 for a two-game exhibition against Industriales de Monterrey and the Milwaukee Brewers. The Dodgers also played exhibition games in Mexico City prior to the 1964 season against the Red Devils and in 2003 against the New York Mets. This weekend s games will mark the Dodgers second time playing regular season games abroad (excluding games in Canada), following a two-game sweep of the D-backs in Sydney to open the 2014 season. This is Major League Baseball s eighth regular-season series outside of the Unites States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Dodger radio broadcaster Charley Steiner has called three of those series (Tokyo, Sydney and Monterrey) while also being behind the microphone for exhibition games in Mexico, Puerto Rico and China. The team will celebrate its rich history with Mexico on May 10 (7:10 p.m. vs. Reds), holding Mexican Heritage Night. The game will feature special pregame programming and a ticket package that includes an exclusive Dodgers-Mexico t-shirt which can be purchased at Dodgers.com/Mexico. The Dodgers and Monterrey are also linked by Mexico s first Little League World Series championship team in 1957, known as the Little Giants. The 1957 Monterrey team spent the day at Ebbets Fields with the Brooklyn Dodgers following their championship, and over 50 years later, in 2009, members of the Little Giants also visited Dodger Stadium. Dodger legend and SNLA Spanish broadcaster Fernando Valenzuela and Dodger left-hander Julio Urías both accompanied the team to Mexico for the weekend. Urias held a press conference at the stadium Friday afternoon and Valenzuela tossed out the ceremonial first pitch Friday night and held his press conference yesterday. This afternoon, Dodger rookie outfielder Alex Verdugo, who played for Team Mexico in the 2017 World Baseball Classic, will be available to the media in the press conference room at 12:15 p.m. GETTING WHIFFS: The Dodgers 337 strikeouts as a pitching staff are the most in the National League, five more than the Nationals (332). HIT MACHINE: On this date in 2011, Andre Ethier picked up three hits at Citi Field against the Mets to extend his hitting streak to 30 games, the second-longest run in franchise history. He went 0-for-4 the next day, bringing the streak, which had started on April 2, to an end. On this date eight years ago, the Dodgers 10-3 victory over the Washington Nationals at Dodger Stadium established a modern-day Major League Baseball record with 13 consecutive home wins to start the season, surpassing the old mark of 12 by the 1911 Detroit Tigers at Bennett Park. Los Angeles had already established a franchise record with its 10-0 start, one better than the 1946 Brooklyn club at Ebbets Field. CATCHING FIRE: Yasmani Grandal was stellar for the Dodgers last month, completing March/April, hitting.315 with 20 RBI, nine doubles and a.551 slugging percentage. Grandal and Austin Barnes have been leading the way behind the dish this season: Dodgers, Combined Stats by Catchers 2018 (w/ MLB Ranks) BA.273 (4th) OPS.886 (2nd) XBH 16 (2nd) RBI 23 (3rd) Runs 21 (T-2nd) Walks 21 (1st) UPCOMING SCHEDULE Date/Time/Opponent Probable Pitchers TV/Radio Tues., May 8, 7:10 p.m. vs. ARI RHP Zack Godley (4-2, 3.41) vs. TBD TV: SNLA/SNLA Spanish Radio: AM 570, KTNQ 1020 AM Wed., May 9, 7:10 p.m. vs. ARI LHP Patrick Corbin (4-0, 2.15) vs. TBD TV: SNLA/SNLA Spanish Radio: AM 570, KTNQ 1020 AM
