DOG AGILITY MASTERS TEAM 2012 Turnament Rules Descriptin: This turnament series is pen t all cmpetitrs with any dg, regardless f cmpetitin level (i.e., starters, advanced and masters). A team may be cmprised f handlers with dgs frm any tw height classes (e.g., 12 /26, 16 /26, 22 /22, etc). Each individual n a three-dg/three-handler team cmpetes in fur classes f cmpetitin standard agility, snker, jumpers and gamblers chice. Tp teams as set frth herein cmpete in a fifth and final class the three-dg team relay t establish final placements fr prizes and awards. Each f the five classes will be cnducted pursuant t Chapters 3 and 6 f USDAA Rules & Regulatins, except that select perfrmance requirements are subject t judge s discretin as set frth belw. Such discretinary requirements are permissible t allw additinal creativity and a unique quality t the curse t make them mre dynamic as a spectatr event, adding an element f strategy in dealing with the unfamiliar in head-t-head cmpetitin: The bstacle perfrmance requirements f the standard agility as specified fr the Masters level in Chapter 3 shall be generally fllwed, except that the table shall be excluded ther than as a finish pint, with n psitin r time requirement impsed ne cntact bstacle may be mitted include masters level challenges in a manner t present a mix f speed, cntrl and precisin elements in the curse design; the mix f elements shuld have the effect f leveling the playing field fr small versus large dgs in accmplishing time n the curse, while maintaining a high level f fun and cmpetitin The perfrmance requirements f the snker, gamblers and jumpers classes shall generally fllw the requirements f Chapter 6 f USDAA Rules & Regulatins, except that The gamblers class may include r mit rules nrmally applied fr pint assignments, time allcatins and jker requirements, hwever pint schemes shall prvide balance between curse perfrmance and the jker, and the ptential ttal pints per rund shall maintain prprtinal balance between all classes f the turnament, r therwise nt permit undue emphasis in the Gamblers class as cmpared t any ther class in the verall turnament utcme. (A maximum ptential scre may fall in the 70-80 pint range per rund. Guidance fr establishing pint schemes are prvided in these regulatins.) The snker class curse cnfiguratin and curse cmpnents may be at the judge s discretin, but must have faultable reds and fllwing the snker sequence generally cnfrming t the general standards frm which the game was derived. Rules departing frm Chapter 6 shall be well-defined in a written curse briefing The jumpers class shall include weave ples include masters level challenges in a manner t present a mix f speed, cntrl and precisin elements in the curse design; the mix f elements shuld have the effect f leveling the playing field fr small versus large dgs in accmplishing time n the curse, while maintaining a high level f fun and cmpetitin include a lng jump include at least regular and ne extended spread hurdle nt include mre than three passes thrugh a tunnel The curse may include ne cmbinatin, defined as a sequence f tw r three hurdles and/r jumps, which are all displaceable. When a cmbinatin is used, the ttal number f elements may nt exceed 22 bstacles t be perfrmed. The bstacle perfrmance requirements f the team relay class as specified in Chapter 6 shall be generally fllwed, except that the table shall be excluded ther than as a finish pint and/r a relay exchange pint, with n psitin r time requirement impsed ne cntact bstacle may be mitted masters level challenges shall be used in a manner t present a mix f speed, cntrl and precisin elements in the curse design; the mix f elements shuld have the effect f leveling the playing field fr small versus large dgs in accmplishing time n the curse, while maintaining a high level f fun and cmpetitin

Scring: Masters scring rules shall apply fr the determinatin f faults in all classes. Time-plus-faults scring methd shall be utilized in the standard, jumpers and team relay classes (i.e., n standard curse time is emplyed), with the fllwing special values assigned fr infractins: Each Refusal 2 fault pints Three refusals per dg r wrng curse 1/3 f the Class Pint Value. Omissin f a team member in relay (see special rules) 200 fault pints The resulting scres n a time-plus-faults basis shall be deducted frm the standard pint-basis fr each class as set frth under Special Rules in rder t calculate pints earned by each team in a given class. In n case shall the team scre fr a single class be less than zer. Pints frm the three classes shall be added t pints earned in the gamblers and snker classes, after adjustment as set frth belw, t determine each team s final scre. Team ranking and placements shall be n the basis f cumulative scres thrugh the five classes f cmpetitin, unless therwise prvided belw. Special Rules: The standard pint distributin and scring methds fr the turnament intend t prvide a relative balance f pints frm all five classes. Standard, jumpers and relay classes have been assigned a standard pint basis f 390, 300 and 450 pints, respectively, which are reduced by the time-plus-fault penalties accrued by team members. The resulting pint basis scre is cmbined with pints earned thrugh perfrmance in the Snker and Gamblers classes, after adjustments as described belw, t determine the final verall scre: Snker class pints are multiplied by a factr f 1.5, and Gamblers class pints are multiplied by a factr whse value is established by the judge such that a team ptentially may cllectively accumulate between 210 and 240 pints in the Gamblers class. A judge shall nt emply a pint system r rules that will create a significant imbalance amng the five turnament classes, befre r after applying a pint multiplicatin factr. Further, the judge shall exercise care in placing relative value t the pening and clsing perid in the Gamblers class such that the ttal scre is nt cntingent upn any ne r tw high pinted features, recgnizing that the pint differential in a class is the ultimate deciding factr in wh wins and wh lses the turnament verall. Examples f schemes that shuld generally be avided are: dubling ttal class pints as a jker fr perfrmance f a distance challenge, dubling ttal class pints (r in sme cases jker pints) fr nt exceeding maximum curse time, r frfeiting all class pints (r in sme cases all jker pints) fr failure t finish within the maximum allwable time. Multiplicatin factrs may be used t balance the verall pint accumulatin ptential f the class in balancing the pint value with ther turnament classes. The fllwing factrs are exemplary nly, and must be critically evaluated fr each event: If a 1-2-3-5 system is utilized with 30-40 secnds n curse and a ptential 15 pints in the jker perid, a 1.5 factr shuld be cnsidered. If a 1-3-5-7 system is utilized with 30-40 secnds n curse and a ptential f 20 pints in the jker perid, a 1.25 factr shuld be cnsidered. If a larger pint scheme is utilized, a factr may be less than 1.00, t achieve the desired result. Pint systems may be devised that utilize less typical time perids, such as a 20/20 time split between beginning and clsing perids. Whatever pint system is used, the judge shall prvide balance in challenge and pint ptential regardless f size f dg, and in balancing the value f the class with the ther fur classes, keeping in mind that the pint differential in perfrmances determines the winners. In any case, the factr shall be established prir t the start f the class and shall nt be changed nce the class has started. A handicapping system will be emplyed in the Gamblers and Snker classes when cmputing scres fr cmpetitrs in the mini divisin (i.e., the 12 and 16 height classes). Cmpetitrs with dgs in the 12 and 16 height classes shall be allwed apprximately 20% and 10% additinal time, respectively, as cmpared t cmpetitrs in the 22 and 26 height classes (pen divisin). N time handicapping shall apply in the standard, jumping r relay classes; in these classes the judge shall emply curse design elements that will prvide natural handicapping t the class (e.g., variatins in bstacle spacing and cntrlled turns that may result in a balance f time ver the distance amng the different height classes).

In relay a reverse batn exchange (RBE) may be used wherein the handler waiting t run next in the exchange area hlds the batn and hands it ff t the handler arriving in the exchange area. Whether a standard batn exchange r reverse batn exchange is used, a 10-pint penalty shall be assessed fr drpping the batn at the exchange (and/r during the rund if carried) and ther minr errrs invlving the batn, and a 20-pint penalty shall be assessed fr thrwing the batn, fr failing t make the exchange prir t engaging the first bstacle by a team member, cmpleting a segment withut an exchange, r ther misuses r majr infractin invlving the batn. Each handler and dg n a team must cmpete in all five classes; i.e., tw different dgs n a team may nt bth be handled by a single handler. In the event a handler n a team is unable t cntinue thrugh all five classes, ne handler substitutin f necessity with the apprval f the judge may be made. N additinal substitutin f dgs r additinal handler substitutins shall be permitted (including reversin back t the riginal team member). Shuld n substitutin be pssible, then the ther team member may cmpete in individual classes, with an eliminatin scre recrded fr the withdrawn team member (i.e., zer pints earned fr the class). All teams must be finalized prir t the running f the first team class. Shuld an incmplete team exist prir t the start f the first class, whether the result f a withdrawn entry r due t draw entries remaining unmatched, the secretary shall make every effrt t cmplete the team thrugh acceptance f an additinal class entry frm a cmpetitr entered in the event. The entry frm shall be adjusted and fees paid in rder fr the entry t be valid and fr results t be entered fr the vlunteer cmpetitr. Shuld they nt wish t pay the fees prir t the start f the first class, they may run as an accmmdatin t the ther team members, but the accmmdating cmpetitr shall nt receive credit fr the results f the turnament r any f its cmpnent classes. A team wh has a teammate unable t run the relay class may have a persn pass the batn, declaring Pass t the judge, and passing the batn as therwise required. If the cmpetitr passing is first r last t have run n curse fr their team, they must crss the line t start r stp the clck as apprpriate. An autmatic penalty f 200 pints is applied fr a cmpetitr unable t run. In any case, the class scre may nt be less than zer. Failure t start r stp the clck as apprpriate shall result in eliminatin fr the team (i.e., zer pints earned fr the class). Shuld a cmpetitr run withut a cmplete team as defined under these regulatins, the cmpetitr is eligible fr all awards in the individual classes, including Tp Ten pints and Lifetime Achievement Award qualificatin, as applicable. If 40 r mre teams are entered in any qualifying event, the shw cmmittee may elect t impse a limit n the number f teams running the relay class. If s elected, it must be psted in the test schedule specifying that the number f teams running in the relay class be limited t n less than tw-thirds f the number f teams entered based upn scres thrugh fur runds f cmpetitin; hwever, n team whse scre is within 25% f the average f the tp three scres thrugh fur runds r 650 pints, whichever is greater, shall be precluded frm running the relay class. A height rtatin shuld be utilized in establishing the running rder whereby cmpetitrs frm each height class runs first in ne f the fur classes, unless it is prblematic in establishing a running rder, such as when a grup rtatin system is emplyed. In this case n grup shall be the first t run in all classes, and heights within the grup shall be rtated if apprpriate in rder t maintain an equitable balance f what height class runs first in the running rder. Further, when classes are spread ver multiple days, it is preferable that strategy classes (i.e., Gamblers and Snker) are ffered n different days when it is practicable t d s. Lifetime Achievement qualificatins shall be determined based upn the scres f the tp three dgs in each jump height prvided there are at least 5 scres each in the 12 and 16 height classes r 7 scres each in the 22 and 26 height classes. The tp three scres shall be averaged and fr jumpers and standard multiplied by a factr f 1.15 t determine the maximum qualifying scre fr each jump height and fr gamblers and snker multiplied by a factr f.85 t determine the minimum qualifying scre fr each jump height. In the event that fewer than five cmpetitrs actually cmpete in the 12 r 16 height classes, r seven cmpetitrs in the 22 r 26 height classes, the tp three scres must be determined frm the cmbined height divisin fr small dgs (12 and 16 ) OR large dgs (22 and 26 ) t determine the qualifying scre fr all dgs cmpeting in that divisin in the manner described abve. If there are fewer than five cmpetitrs actually cmpeting in the small dg divisin r seven in the large dg divisin, the tp scre frm the divisin shall be used t calculate the qualifying scre. In this case, the tp scre shall be multiplied by same factrs listed abve t determine the qualifying scre. Qualificatin: A qualifying scre shall be awarded t cmpetitrs wh cmpete in all five classes and whse team scres are 850 pints r mre, r within 25% f the average f the ttal pints earned by the tp three teams after the fifth and final class, whichever is greater. In the event fewer than five (5) teams are entered, the minimum qualifying scre will be calculated using the tp scre instead f the average f the tp 3 scres after all 5 classes.

All cmpetitrs being entered n a team at the Wrld Champinships must be qualified thrugh a lcal r reginal qualifying event. Where a cmpetitr has qualifying scres in bth Champinship and Perfrmance Prgram turnaments, a cmpetitr is eligible t enter the Perfrmance Prgram turnaments at a reginal, natinal, and/r wrld champinship event nly if the cllective number f qualificatins in the Perfrmance Prgram turnaments fr the seasn are greater in number than the number earned in Champinship Prgram turnaments as f the clsing date f the event t be entered. Awards: Prizes and awards will be made based upn verall team scres after the five runds. Each member f a qualifying team will receive a qualifying ribbn r qualificatin certificate in recgnitin f their qualificatin. Qualifying and/r placement ribbns r rsettes may be awarded at the discretin f the hst grup. USDAA will prvide Gld, Silver & Brnze medals at Reginal Champinship events in the United States, alng with a plaque fr each member f the first place team verall as Reginal Champins.
