VERSA BIKE RACK INSTRUCTIONS pg. Assembly Of Rack Begin assembly of rack by removing the rack from the box and placing it on the floor with the folding frame down and the yellow reflector facing away from you. Reassemble the release lever arm. Remove the 8mm bolt and nut from the release lever bracket. Move the release lever arm into place while being careful to keep the plastic washers in place. Insert the bolt through the bracket and the arm. Attach the nut and tighten it using the Allen wrench provided to 0 +/- inch pounds. DO NOT over tighten the nut. The release arm must move freely. ATTACH AND TIGHTEN Now take the hitch bar/pivot plate assembly and position it so that the pull pin is in line and engaged into the bottom most hole on the larger plate. The bolts have been assembled loose so that there is slop in the interface to allow for assembly. SPRING PIN DISENGAGED LEAVE THESE BOLTS UNTIGHTENED UNTIL ASSEMBLY IS PROPERLY POSITIONED Straighten the plates, aligning the holes on either side of the folding frame with the holes in the hitch plate and insert the mm bolt. Attach the lock washer and the locking nut and tighten 0 +/- inch pounds. DO NOT over tighten the nut. The assembly must be able to rotate. (illustration on pg.)
VERSA BIKE RACK INSTRUCTIONS pg. Assembly Of Rack (cont.) - Tighten the two 0mm hitch bolts to 0 +/- inch pounds. Insufficient tightening of the pivot bolt could result in catastrophic failure of the rack. Place the straps on the rack at the base of the loop arms. ATTACH AND TIGHTEN Installation of the rack For racks only. Check to make sure that the nut inside the rack hitch bar is aligned with the hole in the hitch bar. Adjust with a screw driver if necessary. Line up the hole in the hitch bar with the hole in the receiver hitch. - Slide the rack into the receiver hitch of the vehicle. Place the lock washer on the hitch lock bolt and thread it into the nut in the hitch bar. For racks tighten the hitch lock bolt to 0 +/- foot pounds. For the. rack, tighten the hitch bolt to 0 +/- foot pounds. Be certain that the bolt is tight and the lock washer is flattened. VERSA BIKE RACK INSTRUCTIONS pg. Use of rack Open the wheel bails and loosen the D-tube knob so that the D-tubes can be moved. Re-position the D-tubes so that the loop end of the D-tube extends out equally on each side and appear to give adequate access for loading a bike wheel into the bails. Starting with the bike mount position that is closest to the vehicle, place the bicycle wheels into the bails alternating the direction the bikes are facing when mounted on the rack. Place the first bike in the wheel bails and reposition the D-tubes so that the bike is held secure. Tighten the D-tube clamp securely. Attach the straps through the bike wheels at each loop end. Repeat for the second bike. Failure to tighten the D-tube clamp could result in damage to the rack and loss of bikes from the rack. - To utilize the cable lock, stretch it through the bike frames and attach it to the bail below the reflector on the folding frame using a padlock. It is possible to pivot the bikes out of the rack and avoid having to adjust the D-tubes with each use. To remove the bikes lift the rear wheel up. Pivot the bike frame toward your body and then lift the front wheel from the wheel bail. Fold the wheel bails inboard and use the bike straps to secure the wheel bails to the rack frame when not carrying bikes.
VERSA BIKE RACK INSTRUCTIONS pg. Use of rack (cont.) To lower the rack, grasp the release lever and the front of the folding frame. Pull up on the folding frame to allow movement of the pull pin. Activate the release lever by pressing it to the left to lower or raise the rack to the upright position. To return the rack to the horizontal (to the ground) position, push left to activate the release lever and raise or lower the rack into position. The pin at the end of the release lever should click into place. Test the rack to be certain the pin has activated. Failure to activate the pin could result in a spontaneous lowering of the rack and damage of the bike rack or loss of bikes. 8 When not carrying bikes, the wheel bails should be stowed inboard and secured with the rubber straps and the rack should be in the up position. 8
