kickball RULES League Play 1. A single elimination All-University tournament will be scheduled for men, women and co-rec play. 2. The American Softball Association (ASA) Rules Book will be used with West Texas A&M University Rec Sports exceptions.. Number of Players 1. Each team will have a maximum of twelve (12) members. 2. There will be a maximum of eight (8) players on the field. 3. A team may start a game with seven (7) members present six (6) players and one (1) non-playing person. 4. Each team must furnish a non-playing person to help with the scoring and timing of the game. 5. The following are exceptions for co-rec teams: (iii) (iv) Teams consist of eleven (11) players, five (5) men and five (5) women and one (1) non-playing person. Substitutions will be the same as the softball rules except a man will substitute for a man and a woman for a woman. A team may play with nine (9) players four (4) men and four (4) women and one (1) non-playing person. A team cannot play with five (5) men and four (4) women OR four (4) men and five (5) women. There must be an equal number of men and women to start or the game will be forfeited. Player Equipment 1. Soccer type shoes with soft soles and soft rubber cleats are permitted.
2. Any other type of spiked shoe or cleated shoe is strictly prohibited. 3. No steel spikes allowed. 4. In the case of questionable equipment, the game supervisors and director will determine if equipment is permitted or prohibited. Length of Game 1. Game shall consist of six (6) innings of play; however, no new inning shall begin after 40 minutes. 2. After a team has batted three (3) times and is behind by fifteen (15) or more runs, or after a team has batted four (4) or more times and is behind by ten (10) or more runs, the game shall end. If the team that is behind is the home team, the inning must be completed. 3. In the case of a tie the game will be played until a winner is declared. At this time, each batter will receive an automatic 3-2 count. 4. In the event a game in progress should be delayed or subject to cancellation the field supervisors and umpires shall decide whether to cancel the game. 5. Four (4) complete innings will constitute a game. Start of Game 1. The following procedure will apply for the coin toss: The visiting team (Team B on the score sheet) will call the coin toss. The winner will have the following choices: a. Bat first. b. Take the field first. 2. Ground rules will be discussed by the officials before each game with the captains.
General Rules 1. Teams will pitch to its own kickers. A member of the defensive team may position themselves no closer than three (3) feet from the pitcher to act as a fielder. 2. Pitchers of the kicking team will not be responsible for playing defense. When a kicked ball strikes the pitcher before it passes a member of the defensive team, the kicker will be called out and runners must return to the base occupied at the time of the pitch. 3. Each kicker will receive a maximum of three (3) pitches. If the kicker allows three (3) pitches to pass without kicking, he/she will be called out. 4. There will be no walks. 5. Progressive base stealing or leading off shall be illegal in intramural play. 6. A batter must make contact with the ball before a runner can leave the base. 7. Bunting will not be permitted and is a dead ball and an automatic out. Runners must return to the base occupied at the time of the pitch. All kicks must travel in fair territory past the pitcher s mound to qualify as a legal kick. 8. If a ball strikes a player on the kicking team whether running bases or thrown by the fielding team will be considered an out. 9. No more than six (6) players may be positioned in the infield area prior to a pitch being kicked. Two (2) players must begin in the outfield area. 10. Each team must provide a catcher. The catcher must field from behind the kicker and is considered one of the six (6) infielders. 11. The fielding pitcher must remain behind the pitching rubber until the ball is kicked. 12. All field players must stay behind the pitcher while the other team is kicking. 13. The kicker is out when:
A ground ball first base is touched by a player with the ball or by the ball when a players is in possession of the ball. Hit by a thrown ball below the shoulders by a defensive player. Is tagged by the ball when a defensive player is in possession. 14. A runner is out when: The base they are advancing to is touched by a defensive player with the ball or by the ball when a defensive player is in possession during a force out. Hit by a thrown ball below the shoulders by a defensive player. Tagged by the ball when a defensive player is in possession. 15. A kicker/runner is NOT out when: Hit above the shoulders (neck, head). In case of a head shot, play continues but the runner who was hit above the shoulders is NOT liable to be put out until after they touch the next base. However, if the runner intentionally uses their head to block the ball or ducks and is hit above the shoulders, the runner will be called out (the ball is immediately dead and all runners return to the base they last touched). A thrown ball touches the ground base prior to striking the kicker/runner. They contacted by a ball that is kicked at them by the opposing team. 16. There is no infield fly rule and all caught balls must have a tag up in order for the runner to advance. 17. In co-rec competition the following additions apply: Batting order must alternate man, woman, man, woman, etc. At any point if two members of the same gender bat back to back, an automatic out must be assessed for the vacant gender in batting order.
Each team must have two (2) men and two (2) women in the outfield. (iii) Pitcher and catcher must be of the opposite sex (pitcher man and catcher women OR pitcher woman and catcher man).
