Viking News The Viking have matched last season s win total before conference play. With 7 wins the Vikings have shown much improvement over the course of the year. After facing a very tough non conference schedule and being stuck at the #7 Seed in the Little Four, the Viking are ready to show the conference that they are for real. The Little Four Pizza Hut Invitational Kyle Vebber didn t waste any time after sitting out 5 games with an ankle injury, coming off the bench to score 37 points and grab 14 rebounds to help the Viking go 2 1 for the weekend. The Viking finished in 5 th place due to losing the first round game to Ragsdale. Ragsdale loss their first game of the season to Greensboro Day in the championship game. In the first round game the Vikings did everything they could to stop Jay Canty (committed to High Point University as a Junior) but it just wasn t enough. Although 4 Vikings had 8 or more points they just couldn t get over that 5 point barrier in the 4 th quarter. The Vikings lost the final 3 quarters by only 1 point. The final score was 75 64. In the second game the Vikings faced Northeast and you could tell from the jump ball that the Vikings were ready to go. The Vikings stingy defense gave up only 2 points in the first quarter & only a total of 7 at the half. With a 30 point lead to start the 2 nd half the Vikings had to fight off relaxing & finish the game 50 33. Freshman Adam Coble established himself down low & had 11 points & 9 rebounds, while Junior Kyle Vebber went a near perfect 5 of 6 from the field & had 14 points and 6 rebounds. Nine different Vikings scored in the game. In the fifth place game the Viking faced conference rival Grimsley. With a big 3 rd quarter the Vikings pulled away to win 70 63. With 5 Vikings scoring 8 points or more and the team shooting 59% from the field and 67% from the three point line it was tough for Grimsley to catch up. Other than some poor free throw shooting at the end of the game the Vikings looked very impressive against a conference opponent. The Vikings opened up Conference play with a big home win against Smith. All though the Viking had their worst offensive game of the season, it was the senior leadership of Andy Fox that helped the Viking prevail to victory. The Vikings are now 8 7 on the season.
