2018 Greetings, 2018 Introduction It is our pleasure to invite you to the on April 21st. This year's event will replace the Games event from the past years. In keeping this event one to the largest and most challenging events in the Southeast, the will continue to offer the same benefits. As with last year, the USAT qualifier will be scheduled on the following day, Sunday, April 22nd. As with previous years, the is committed to providing the highest quality officiating. This year will be no different as we will be providing many international referees. While many people cannot understand why we hire so many IRs, the answer is simple. First, the IRs that we hire are highly experienced, many of them working 45+ weekends per year for the past 10+ years. Their level of international and local experience in ring management and officiating brings a level of professionalism to the athlete that they cannot typically get outside of a national event. Second, the is not only focused on providing a good athlete experience each year, we are also focused on investing in the future of our sport. We recognized long ago that in order for athletes to get a fair game, we had to have seasoned referees. At the, we are trying to do our part for the taekwondo community by providing a high level mentoring experience for our local level referees. One of these mentoring IRs include USAT s former national referee chair John Seiber who will be the Referee Chair for this event. As with last year, E-Hogus will be used by all red & black belts. While E-Hogu use requires a little more skill in kicking, they have dramatically reduced the number of protest and disputes within matches locally, nationally, and internationally. Prior to its use in the 2012 Olympics, the WTF has worked on refining the standards used to measure athletes kicks while trying to maintain the essence of the game. In the past three years, we have seen dramatic changes in required impact levels and measuring methods. This has become less significant in the past year as the WTF and the taekwondo community has become more and more comfortable with these standards. It is our goal at the Peach State Games to provide our athletes with the most objective and fair game utilizing the latest standards available from the WTF. At the, we feel that athlete development is paramount. One of the most difficult obstacles for black belts is to find ring time at tournaments. This is why the will continue to offer double-elimination sparring for all black belts. Also to further athlete development, we have adopted double-elimination poomsae for everyone except 10 & older black belts. For the 10 & older black belt poomsae athletes, they will be competing under the international standards of sport poomsae which will challenge their skills as martial artists in several poomsae, not just one. As with the past, head kicks will be allowed for all divisions following standardized WTF rules. However, as with previous years, junior safety rules, JSR, will be strictly enforced for everyone except 15-32 black belts. This means controlled light contact to the head that will be determined by the center referee. Safety is our first concern. Speaking of safety, Bare Essentials Sports Medicine, this country s premiere sports event medic staff has been contracted to handle all medical for this event. Bare Essentials carries the relationship and reputation with the taekwondo community that spans several decades. For school owners, we have not nor will ever charge you a coach's fee to support your athletes and our tournament. Furthermore, we do not require any type of coaching credentials or membership. Please contact us with your school information, the number of athletes you're bringing, and the number of coach's pass(es) that you will need. Early weigh-in, check-in, and late registration will be available Friday night before the tournament. More information, including packets, can be found at www.register4tkd.com. Daedo E-foot gear can be purchased at www.daedosouth.com. Any feedback that you can provide us after the event will be greatly appreciated as it is our goal to provide the best possible customer experience to our athletes. We would like to thank you in advanced for your support and look forward to seeing you all there at the 2018. Sincerely, Master David Wilch
