Innisfail Minor Hockey Association MANAGER S HANDBOOK The purpose of this handbook is to assist the managers of all IMHA teams with their duties and familiarize them with the proper procedures for running their teams. This will help avoid confusion and make their job a lot easier. As a manager, your job is to organize the activities of the team and work as a liaison between the players, parents, coaches and the executive. If a parent has a concern regarding the team or coaching procedures they are to address it to your attention. You can then handle it in a manner which most benefits the team or bring it to your Division Director if you are unsure how to settle the issue. Team List and Jobs -Make out a team list for each family. -Assign team duties to help lighten your load. Example: ~Time Box person to assign persons to run clock. ~Treasurer person to look after the team funds for tournaments, etc. ~Phone Contact person to phone team members for cancellations, etc. ~Tournament Chairman to help organize the team s home tournament. ~Equipment Manager person to keep track of jerseys and goal equipment and bring to away games. Ice Time Each team will be allotted specific ice times to practice and play their scheduled games. Make sure that your team is off the ice by the end of your designated time. If you must cancel any ice times it must be done at least 7 days prior to the scheduled time or you may be billed for the ice time and the referee time. If you need to make up games you can book them with the ice convener. Remember that league games take precedence over all others. The Ice Convener is Tracey Walker (227-0202). The ice times and availability will be posted on the IMHA website www.innisfailminorhockey.com. Dressing Rooms For home games your dressing room will be open 45 minutes before your game and you must vacate your room 30 minutes after your game. Dressing rooms must be left clean. Teams will be responsible for any damage or acts of vandalism while in a given dressing room. Please report any dressing room problems to a staff member on duty.

Equipment and Uniforms Your team will be supplied with game uniforms and equipment as designated by the equipment manager. The Equipment Director is Tom DeRuyter (227-1792). Note the players name with the jersey number he is assigned and keep for your reference for collection at the end of the season. It is the managers responsibility to collect and return uniforms, first aid kits and puck bags immediately after the end of the playing season. Pictures A basic picture package is included in fees for all players. More details will follow, as they become available. Again, it is a good policy to pass along a team picture to the team s sponsor as they often like to display their community involvement. Tournaments Each team will be offered a home tournament weekend. The Tournament Director is Sean Slaney (227-0208). He will provide you with a tournament package. Contact Sean six weeks prior to your tournament to receive this package. Your team may choose to enter tournaments in other towns. If you do, the entry fee is to come from the team s own funds. You must make sure the tournament is sanctioned with Hockey Alberta. The contact person should be able to give you a sanction number. You must also get a travel permit from our registrar (Warren Bell) and record the sanction number on it. If you wish to play any exhibition games you may also need to get a travel permit. Please have a copy of your tournament ice schedule to Tracey Walker at least 7 days before the first day of your tournament so the times can be put on the board and referees can be booked. Referees When you have finalized your tournament schedule, give a copy to Tracey so she can book referees for your games. If you are going to invite teams in for exhibition games, you must also phone with sufficient time to arrange for referees. The Referee Assignor is Tracey Walker (227-0202). Player Affiliation Affiliation is done by a higher categorized team. This is done to ensure that due to injuries, illness, suspension, etc., the team is still able to fulfill their commitments. There is no guarantee that affiliated players will play with that team, as it is the coach s discretion as to who will be called up. If a player plays more than 5 league or provincial games with their affiliated team after January 10 th they must stay with that team. A players coach must be notified when a team wishes to bring the player up for a game or practice. Important Numbers Executive Director Tracey Walker (227-0202) for booking ice, refs, concession Registrar Warren Bell (227-1471) registration cards, travel & special event permits

Exercise Facility The new exercise facility is great for dry land practice before your team hits the ice! The equipment, including exercise bikes and pyrometric equipment, are great for cardio workouts and general fitness training. The workout room must be booked through Tracey Walker (227-0202). This facility cannot be booked through the arena staff. Travel Permit Acquisition of a travel permit is MANDATORY for any Innisfail Minor Hockey team that is scheduled to play either tournament games or exhibition games outside of our designated Hockey Alberta Zone (Zone 4). Please apply for travel permits 3 business days before the game to ensure that your team will have proper authorization for each game that is not in our zone! Please see attached map for zone boundaries. Zone 4 Centers (No Travel Permit Required): Alder Flats - Beaumont Bentley Blackfalds Bowden Calmar Caroline Clive Devon Eckville Hobbema Lacombe Leduc Millet Ponoka Red Deer Rimbey Rocky Mtn H Spruce View Sylvan Lake Thorsby Warburg Wetaskiwin - Winfield Scheduled North Central Minor Hockey League games outside of Zone 4 (e.g. Camrose) do NOT require a travel permit. North Central Minor Hockey Association Most Innisfail teams play in the North Central Minor Hockey Association. North Central teams are ranked according to their strength and are then placed in Tiers 1-5 for league play. Your team standings are easy to follow on their website at www.ncmha.com. If for any reason you need to cancel or change a scheduled game you will need to fill out a Notice of Game Change form (see attached). It must be completed and signed by both teams before you fax it to your governor. Check with Tracey for an alternate game time prior to filing the Notice of Game Change form. The home team is always responsible to fax in the game sheets. All North Central league and playoff game sheets are to be faxed to your league governor (governor info on league website). All tournament and exhibition game sheets are to be faxed in to Sherry Haarstad @ 403-748-4661. Pre-season game sheets should also be faxed in to Nick Taylor @ 403-782-7918. Questions related to League scheduling, policies or bylaws should be handled by our Executive Director (Tracey Walker) or our Association President (Elwin Wiens). All other correspondence in regards to league play may be directed to your League Governor.

West Country League Some teams (in the Atom age group and younger) may be playing in the West Country League, rather than in the North Central League. For West Country information contact our representative, Sean Slaney (227-0208). Complaints If you have any complaints or concerns throughout the season, please feel free to voice them and every effort will be taken to resolve them. If a parent has a concern, they will first address it to you. If you are unsure how to resolve the situation your next step is to discuss it with the age category director. The third step may be to present your concern to the Discipline Committee of IMHA. To have your issue considered by the board, be sure to submit it in writing. If a parent is unsatisfied after presenting an issue to you, and you have not followed these steps, the parent may take these steps themselves. Useful Websites Innisfail Minor Hockey Association www.innisfailminorhockey.com Each team has their own page on this website, and it is up to you to assign someone to fill out and update this page. Each team will also have their own login and password to their page. If you have any questions regarding website use contact Elwin Wiens @ 227-1863.
