Both teams will look to halt three-game losing streaks during Saturday's matinee, just the second hardwood meeting ever between the Lady Flames and Minutewomen. Liberty will seek its first-ever win over UMass, its first victory in the state of Massachusetts and its first triumph over an Atlantic 10 foe since an overtime win over Saint Joseph's on Nov. 22, 2014. The Lady Flames have gotten strong play from their starting front court of late. In the last two games, KK Barbour is averaging 15.5 ppg, while Keyen Green and Kierra Johnson-Graham are each posting 11.5 ppg. This tournament serves as a homecoming of sorts for Liberty junior post player Molly Reagan. She hails from Braintree, Mass., and helped Braintree High School win back-to-back state titles in 2014 and 2015. 2017-18 SCHEDULE & RESULTS OVERALL RECORD: 1-3 Big South: 0-0 Non-Conference: 1-3 Home: 0-0 Away: 1-2 Neutral: 0-1 NOVEMBER 10 at Old Dominion # W, 63-55 12 at No. 24/23 Michigan # L, 50-74 17 at Drake # L, 68-96 24 vs. Houston % L, 68-75 25 at UMass % 1 p.m. 28 LIMESTONE 7 p.m. DECEMBER 2 VALPARAISO 4 p.m. 6 at James Madison 7 p.m. 16 SHIPPENSBURG 4 p.m. 19 vs. Denver & 4:30 p.m. 20 vs. Northern Colorado & 2 p.m. 29 at Duke 7 p.m. JANUARY 2 at Presbyterian * 7 p.m. 6 CHARLESTON SO. * 1 p.m. 9 WINTHROP * 7 p.m. 13 at Gardner-Webb * 3 p.m. 16 at UNC Asheville * 7 p.m. 20 CAMPBELL * 6 p.m. 23 at Longwood * 7 p.m. 28 RADFORD * 2 p.m. 30 at High Point * 7 p.m. FEBRUARY 3 PRESBYTERIAN * 2 p.m. 6 GARDNER-WEBB * 7 p.m. 10 at Campbell * 2 p.m. 13 at Radford * 7 p.m. 17 UNC ASHEVILLE * 6 p.m. 20 at Winthrop * 7 p.m. 24 at Charleston So. * 3 p.m. 27 LONGWOOD * 7 p.m. MARCH 3 HIGH POINT * 2 p.m. 8 FIRST ROUND @ TBA 9 QUARTERFINALS @ TBA 10 SEMIFINALS @ TBA 11 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME @ TBA 10 K. UMASS Liberty and UMass both enter Saturday's matinee looking to snap three-game losing streaks. Both teams struggled in the second half on Friday after owning halftime leads. Liberty was outscored by Houston, 56-39, during the final 20 minutes, while Northeastern defeated UMass, 31-20, after the intermission. The Lady Flames and Minutewomen each feature three foreign-born players on their 2017-18 rosters, including one player apiece from Turkey (Liberty's Melis Ucar and UMass' Anil Soysal). Freshman Ashtyn Baker leads Liberty in playing time this season, averaging 23.8 minutes/game. That would rank only seventh on the UMass roster, as six Minutewomen are playing 25.5 minutes/game or more. The reigning Big South (Liberty's Keyen Green) and Atlantic 10 (UMass' Hailey Leidel) Freshmen of the Year will go headto-head on Saturday. Liberty faced UMass Associate Head Coach Danny Hughes 10 years ago in a different role. Hughes was Houston's interim head coach when Liberty posted a 70-61 win over the Cougars on Nov. 24, 2007 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Liberty Director of Athletics Ian McCaw previously served in the same capacity at UMass for one year (2002-03). He also earned his master's degree from UMass in 1987. LAST MEETING WITH UMASS DEC. 29, 1993 UMASS 69, LIBERTY 34 JERSEY CITY, N.J. (YANITELLI CENTER) The game was the Lady Flames' first of two contests at the St. Peter's Tournament. Michelle Wyms led Liberty with 14 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots. However, the Lady Flames shot only 24.5 percent (13-of-53) from the field and missed all 13 of their three-point attempts. The Lady Flames lost their sixth consecutive game to begin the 1993-94 season. Liberty opened at 0-7 before going 13-6 over the remainder of their regular-season slate. TOURNAMENT TIME Liberty is playing in its second of three regular-season tournaments this weekend, the UMass Thanksgiving Classic. The Lady Flames opened their season by going 1-2 in the Preseason WNIT. Liberty will also play a pair of contests at the UMKC Roo Holiday Classic, Dec. 19-20 in Kansas City, Mo. Liberty is playing in three tournaments for the second consecutive season. The 2016-17 Lady Flames took part in the Navy Classic (Annapolis, Md.), Rae & Craig Blair Memorial Tournament (San Antonio, Texas) and Cavalier Classic (Charlottesville, Va.). Liberty's last unbeaten regular-season tournament came on Nov. 28 & 30, 2014. The Lady Flames defeated Penn State and host Georgia State to win the GSU Thanksgiving Tournament title in Atlanta, Ga. Looking ahead, the Lady Flames will play host to the Big South Women's Basketball Championship for the second straight year, March 8-11 at the Vines Center. LADY FLAMES IN MASSACHUSETTS Liberty had only played one game in Massachusetts prior to this weekend. The Lady Flames lost a 73-62 contest at Boston University, Dec. 8, 1988 at Case Gymnasium. The duo of Saundra Bridges (17 points, 4 assists) and Cheri Yates (14 points, 13 rebounds) paced the Lady Flames, but they could not overcome a 19-point halftime deficit in just their eighth game as an NCAA Division I member. LADY FLAMES VS. Liberty is 8-15 all-time versus Atlantic 10 Conference opponents, following neutral-site losses to Richmond (63-54 on Dec. 3, 2016) and Dayton (82-53 on Dec. 28, 2016) last season. Liberty's last victory over an A-10 foe was a 76-75 home triumph over Saint Joseph's in overtime, Nov. 22, 2014. The Lady Flames' first-ever matchup with an Atlantic 10 team was their Dec. 29, 1993 meeting with UMass in Jersey City, N.J. ON THIS DATE: Liberty is 10-5 all-time on Nov. 25. However, the Lady Flames have lost their last two Nov. 25 contests, falling NOV. 25 at Elon in 2014 and at Valparaiso last season. The Lady Flames recorded a 61-56 victory at then A-10 member Xavier on Nov. 25, 2007 to win the National City Xavier Invitational title. Liberty also notched a 78-67 home victory over West Virginia on Nov. 25, 2000. Liberty is 81-65 all-time in November, including 46-47 under Carey Green and 1-3 in 2017-18. 3
