This is the first such race being held at Atlantis with the stunning resort and city skyline providing a unique backdrop. We must thank Atlantis, the Dubai Sports Council and Nakheel for their help and support in pulling this race together. We ask that you read all the details outlined in this race information pack prior to the race and familiarise yourself with the course and the rules. race information / Schedules/ wave times Race information: Event schedules/ wave start times: The Nissan Triathlon Festival features multiple race categories for teams or individuals in triathons and aquathons as well as kids fun runs for the next generation of endurance athletes. Races include: Olympic & Sprint distance triathlons: Individual and team, male and female by age group over the Olympic distance (1500m swim; 40km bike; 10km run) and Sprint distance (750m swim; 20km bike; 5km run). Airlines Olympic & Sprint distance triathlon: Sponsored by Mondial, this category is dedicated for male and female airline industry professionals racing as individuals or teams. Corporate Challenge sprint distance team triathlon: Aimed at promoting teamwork and a healthy workforce, the Team Corporate Challenge features company teams with each team having at least 1 female competitor. Olympic & Sprint distance aquathons: A challenging event over the Olympic distance (1500m swim and 10km run) or the Sprint distance (750m swim; 5km run). Kids 3k and 1k fun run: This event is about kids from 7 to 11 getting off the couch and away from the TV to take part in a healthy pastime jogging. directions Directions to race venue: Car parking: Athlete s village: The Nissan Triathlon Festival takes place in the Aquaventure car park. Upon entering The Palm, Jumeirah follow signs for the Atlantis Resort. After passing through the tunnel, follow the road to the right and carry on past Nasimi Beach, the Atlantis hotel to the entrance to Aquaventure. Please note: NO TRIATHLETES ARE PERMITTED TO RIDE BIKES THROUGH THE TUNNEL WHILE ARRIVING OR DEPART- ING FROM THE RACE VENUE. After entering the main Aquaventure car park, please turn right where parking has been reserved for participants. In order to make the Nissan Triathlon Festival more engaging for families and spectators, there will be an Athlete s Village featuring a number of F&B outlets and retailers promoting and selling a variety of triathlon related products. 4

registration - open 8am till 12pm Friday 4th April Timing chip and ankle strap: Race numbers & swim cap: Bike tag, cable ties, ID bracelet: On arrival at the registration area you will need to collect your race documentation envelope. Your race number will be displayed on the information boards next to registration. Complete and sign the race waiver then pick up your registration pack based on your race number. Your pack will contain: 1. A timing chip and ankle strap. You need to attach the timing chip to your LEFT ankle. Your chip will be collected from you at the finish line - if you don t return your chip at this point you will be liable for a fee of AED 100 so please remember to return it! (Note that we are not using the ChampionChip system so please use the timing chip given to you at registration any other chip will not work). 2. 2 x race numbers. A race number must be clearly visible on your back for the bike, and your front for the run. Each athlete will be provided with an elastic race belt, which can be used for your race number. (Relay teams are required to pass this belt from one team member to the other in transition). 3. Swim cap. Each wave will start with a different colour cap. Please make sure the colour of the cap in your race pack matches the colour shown on the information board. It is compulsory to wear these swim caps in the swim. 4. Bike tag & cable ties. This must be attached to your bike stem. It will be used to identify your bike during the race but also for security when collecting your bike after the race. Please remember to hand this in as you check your bike out of transition. 5. ID bracelet. All athletes must wear this bracelet at all times. It will be used to allow you access to and from transition as well as to check your bike out of transition after the race. Your bracelet will be removed by a race official as you collect your finisher s t-shirt. If you remove the bracelet yourself, or lose it, you will not be given a finisher t-shirt. 5

registration - open 8am till 12pm Friday 4th April Your RACE.ME drawstring bag: RACE.ME merchandise: Transition: As soon as you have collected your race pack and checked the contents, you need to apply your wrist band and check your timing chip to make sure the system is reading the signal. After the chip test, the final step will be to collect your race goodie bag. Your branded drawstring race bag will contain: 1. RACE.ME Sun Visor 2. RACE.ME Race Belt 3. Gu 4. Promax Bar 5. Nissan cap (Kids packs will contain vouchers in place of the Gu and Promax Bar) Once you have completed registration, please proceed to transition to rack your bike. Please note that registration and bike racking must be completed by 12 noon, sharp. Anyone who has not racked his or her bike before transition is locked down will not be permitted to race. Do not leave it until five minutes before registration closes to attend! RACE.ME merchandise Anyone who has pre-ordered or wants to purchase RACE. ME branded merchandise can collect this from the registration area. Competitors are only able to rack their bikes on Friday morning between 8am and 12pm. Please rack your bike on a marked line on the transition racks. Please be considerate to other competitors when racking your bike try not to take up too much space! Once racked, all bags or other items that are not going to be used during the race should be moved away so that transition is kept as clear as possible. Transition for ALL competitors will open at 5.30am on race day. It will stay open for athletes to prepare their area till 6.15am. It will close promptly. During the race, only racing competitors will be allowed through the transition area. The transition area will open again for collection of bikes once all competitors have finished the bike leg of the race. If you are collecting your bike, please respect other competitors who are still racing. 6

registration - open 8am till 12pm Friday 4th April Race briefing: (12.30pm Friday 4th April in the Atlantis Hotel) Timing: Results: Race Briefing There will be a compulsory race briefing at 12.30pm for all athletes (triathlon and aquathon). Please attend this race briefing as any last minute changes will be discussed, as well as any questions answered. Timing antennas will be positioned at the entry to transition, at the exit of transition and at the finish line. We ll endeavour to provide you with all your timing splits, but this is not guaranteed. Very occasionally, a timing chip may not be read or a timing antenna may fail and timing splits may not be available. You ll receive a total finish time providing we can see your race number when you cross the finish line. If you withdraw during the event please make sure you return your timing chip, otherwise we will think you are still out there racing! A set of results will be available on our website www.raceme-events.com as soon as possible after the event. We hope they ll all be perfect but any queries relating to them should be emailed to us by the Tuesday after the event, after which time all results will be deemed as final and complete. 7

Terms & conditions Terms & conditions of entry: Withdrawal policy: Body marking: The terms and conditions of entry are set out on our website at http://www.race-me-events.com/terms-and-conditions. In entering this event, competitors have agreed to abide with these terms and conditions. Transfer of entries: Please note that the transfer of your entry to another person may only be done until the date of the close of registration for the event. This is done online through Premier Online select the Transfer Registration option in the Transactions section of your profile manager to do so. You need to know the email address of the person you are transferring your entry to. Our online registration is done through Premier Online. We allow athletes to withdraw from an event. However, if you decide to do so Premier Online only give you the option to have your race registration fee credited to your Premier Online profile. This must be done no later than 7 days prior to the published close of registration, and is accessed through the Transactions section of your profile manager under the Cancel/Credit a Registration section. Premier Online charges a processing fee of AED 30 to process this withdrawal and online credit. Every participant will be marked with his race number on both arms and legs. Please make sure that no sun lotion is applied prior to marking. 8

Terms & conditions Swim: Bike: Run: The swim will be a non-wetsuit swim. Only race legal speed-suits (no rubber or neoprene) will be permitted. All athletes must wear the swim cap provided and start in their allocated wave. Only swim goggles or masks are permitted. No other swim aids of any kind are permitted. Only official lifeguards on kayaks and rescue jet skis are allowed on the swim course. Swimmers may use the kayaks and jet skis for aid should they require assistance so long as there is no forward momentum, which would result in disqualification. Helmets must be worn at all times on the bike. The helmet should be securely fastened before mounting your bike. There is to be no riding of bikes before the mount line or after the dismount line. This could result in disqualification Bikes should be racked neatly, fixed by the seat or handlebars based on the colour marker tape on the racks. Please be respectful of other athletes space in transition. Race numbers must be worn on your back. The Nissan Triathlon Festival is a non-draft legal race. Please refer to the drafting section. The roads will be open so please follow the rules of the road and be aware of traffic on the bike leg. Please ride single file on the right except when overtaking. Once past, please return to the right side of the road. No ipods or similar headphone devices allowed. Please do not litter the bike course. Dispose of litter and used water bottles in the aid stations. A shirt or full-length trisuit must be worn at all times. No ipods or similar headphone devices allowed. Race numbers must be worn on your front during the run 9

Swim course 750m swim course starts from the beach at the world famous Atlantis resort Turn around point 1 or 2 lap course depending on whether doing sprint or Olympic distance race. Short run to transition (which will be situated in the car park of the Atlantis resort). 10

finish Return your ankle chip: Return the bike tag: Collect your FINISHER shirt: Congratulations on finishing the race! Please return your chip to one of the race volunteers - if you don t return your chip at this point you will be liable for a fee of AED 100 so please remember to return it! Make your way to the transition area making sure not to remove your ID bracelet so you can check out your bike, remembering to return the bike tag to the transition team. Once you have your bike, you can collect your finisher s t-shirt upon which time one of the race officials will remove your bracelet. 13

drafting regulations 1. Position Rules: a. Absolutely NO DRAFTING of another bike or any other vehicle is allowed. b. Athletes must keep 7 metres (4 bike lengths) distance between bikes except when passing. Failure to do so will result in a drafting violation. c. A pass occurs when the overtaking athlete s front wheel passes the leading edge of the athlete being overtaken. d. Overtaking athletes may pass on the left for up to 20 seconds, but must move back to the right side of the road, after passing. Failure to complete a pass within 20 seconds will result in a drafting violation. Athletes may not back out of the 7 metres draft zone once it is entered (drafting violation). e. Overtaken athletes must immediately fall back 7 metres (4 bike lengths) before attempting to regain the lead from a front running bike. Immediately re-passing prior to falling back 7 metres will result in a drafting violation. f. Overtaken Athletes who remain within 7 metres (4 bike lengths) for more than 20 seconds will be given a drafting violation. g. Athletes must ride single file on the far right side of the road at all times except when passing another rider, or for reasons of safety. Side-by-side riding is strictly forbidden and will result in a drafting violation. h. Athletes who impede the forward progress of other athletes will be given a drafting violation. i. Athletes committing rules violations will be notified on the spot by an official. There will be 2 mobile draft busters and a number of static draft busters on the course at all time j. If penalised, do not attempt to discuss the penalty with the official. The official will: i. Call out your race number and warn you that you are violating the course rules for drafting ii. If you do not sit up on your bike and fall back to the permitted 7 metres draft zone, the official will inform you that you have received a drafting penalty iii. Call out your race number and notify you that you have violated the course rules for intentional littering and inform you that you have received a time penalty The athlete will receive a 4 minutes penalty for the drafting/littering offence. This will be added to the athlete s finishing time. If an athlete receives a second drafting or intentional littering penalty, they will be disqualified and their results stricken from the finishers list. If you are informed that you have been disqualified while still on the bike, you may finish the bike course but may not start the run. 14

bike course regulations 1. Bicycles must be racked in a manner such that the majority of the bicycle is on the athlete s side of the bike rack. 2. No tandems, recumbents, fairings, or any add-on device designed exclusively to reduce resistance are allowed. Any new, unusual, or prototype equipment will be subject to a determination of legality by the event organizer and/or Head Referee. 3. The sole responsibility of knowing and following the prescribed cycling course rests with each athlete. No adjustments in times or results shall be made for athletes who fail to follow the proper course for any reason whatsoever. 4. Athletes must obey all traffic laws while on the cycling course unless otherwise specifically directed by an official, race monitor, or designee with actual authority. Failure to do so may result in disqualification. 5. No athlete shall endanger himself or another participant. Athletes who intentionally present a danger to any athlete or who, in the judgment of the Referee, appear to cause a danger to athletes may be disqualified. 6. Only professional athletes may attach shoes to the pedals. Shoes and shirt must be worn at all times. 7. Athletes must wear a bike helmet number on the front of their helmet. 8. Athletes must have a bike frame number fixed to their bike and the entire number must be clearly visible from the left side. 9. Athletes riding without an approved helmet or chinstrap not fastened may be disqualified. Alterations to hard-shell helmets, which affect its integrity, are not allowed. 10. No individual support allowed. Ample aid and food stations will be provided. Friends, family members, coaches, or supporters of any type may NOT bike, drive, or run alongside athlete, may not pass food or other items to athlete and should be warned to stay completely clear of all athletes to avoid the disqualification of an athlete. It is incumbent upon each athlete to immediately reject any attempt to assist, follow, or escort. 11. Do not litter. Any item that needs to be discarded, including but not limited to water bottles, gel wrappers, energy bar wrappers, broken bike parts, or clothing items, may only be discarded in the trash drop zones at each aid station. Discarding any item outside of the trash drop zones will result in a penalty. Blatant littering will result in a 4 minute penalty. 12. Athletes must be individually responsible for repair and maintenance of their own bike. Athletes should be prepared to handle any possible mechanical malfunction. Assistance from RACE.ME staff is permitted. 13. Athletes may walk bike, if necessary, but may not make progress on the bike course unaccompanied by their bicycle. 14. Bike inspection is not mandatory and will not be provided at Bike Check-In, although technicians will be available. Athletes are ultimately responsible for their own bikes. However, race officials may at their discretion make final judgment as to the soundness of bikes. In the event of foul weather, large plastic bags, which cover the entire bike, will be permitted as long as the bags are securely fastened to the bike. 15. Communication devices of any type, such as cell phones and twoway radios are strictly prohibited during competition. Use of such devices will result in disqualification. HEADSETS OR HEADPHONES ARE NOT ALLOWED DURING ANY PORTION OF THE EVENT. 16. MEDICAL SUPPORT. If you need minor medical assistance, a Sag vehicle will pick you up and take you to the medical tent, where you shall receive treatment. Alternatively, depending upon medical emergency, ambulances will take you to the nearest hospital to receive treatment. If you have a technical problem or have bonked, the Sag vehicle will take you to the next aid station. There will be rest areas and medical personnel to assist in any medical problem. Additionally, there will be radios to contact ambulances and medical assistance. If you have a problem, please go to an aid station for further assistance. 17. Any cyclist that does not complete the entire bike course by 9:30 a.m. will be disqualified and will not be permitted to continue the event. Additional cut-off times may apply to the course and will be published in the event Athlete Guide as well as discussed at the Athlete Briefings. 15

medical advice Climate: Hydration: Sun Lotion: It is essential that you are aware of the weather conditions during the race. It is expected to be hot with very little, if any, shade. We will have ambulances on standby throughout the duration of the race but you must take care to race sensibly in such conditions. If you start to get headaches, feel dizzy and nauseous then you may be suffering from heat exhaustion and need to seek medical advice. Listen to your body. Talk to the nearest volunteer who will be able to help you get attention. The common symptoms of heat exhaustion include: confusion, muscle cramps, heavy sweating, headaches, nausea/vomiting and dizziness. If you become aware of these symptoms then seek medical help. Please stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids in the days leading up to the race and remember to continue to take on fluids on the morning before the swim start. During the bike and run try to take on board about 500ml of fluids per hour. There will be water available from aid stations but please make sure you have sufficient fluids of your own on your bike. Sun lotion will be available at the start area. Please make sure to protect yourself from the sun. 16
