The Geezer Official Journal of the WA Model Aero Club (inc) and SAM 270 Western Australia Issue: 42, May 2015 From the President. In this issue The winter weather is starting to creep in and will start to impact on our activities before we know it, we have already had a comp postponed due to wind, the only good thing is the rain will help the grass coverage. A Good decision because I wasn t able to be there on the day but now I get a second chance. May will be full of flying weather permitting, both free flight and vintage events scheduled for the month with the first being FF scramble held at the Mitchell paddock on Gossage rd Oldbury, this is the same place the Hand Launch Glider was flown a few weeks ago. Lets hope we have a calm day so the rickety old legs don t get over worked. We should schedule an RC scramble, a bit easier but just as much fun using Tomboys or similar. This event has been a great success on the East Coast. 1/2A Texaco competition The Dorothy Buckley Trophy HLG competition De-construction Page Burford Glo Chief re-visited Contest Calendar Later in the month we have Nostalgia and Vintage Glider on the same day so dust off your models and come join the fun of a full day of flying. The official word is out and Big Mac took out the state Champion of Champion award for the second year in a row, well done and we all know that Rod puts in the effort and has been rewarded for that. Hot on his heels was yours truly and not far behind me was Greg McClure. That s the top, three from WAMAC / SAM 270 a great effort. Rumour has it that Gary and Angela Dickens will be off to the UK in the not to distant future to compete in a single channel, rudder only comp, I m sure Gary will give it his all and bring back some interesting tales of how the Brits do it, if not a trophy or two. We wish them all the best in there adventure and look forward to seeing him back here in the west. Dicko 1 Geezer May 2015

1/2A Texaco Windy conditions greeted competitors for the Sam270 1/A Texaco event on the 26th April. After some brief test flying things got under way at 9-30am with 6 flyers braving the elements, short flights due to the amount of down elevator required to stay in the flying zone where recorded in the first round with no one getting more than 4.5 minutes. The second round was quite different with 3 maxes being recorded probably as a result of calmed nerves as the wind hadn't decreased any. Mike Butcher unfortunately broke a crank shaft on landing on his first flight when he called an attempt which unfortunately put him out of the race, leaving the five remaining to slug it out. Despite the strong wind there was only one out landing recorded for the day by Greg McClure after recording a Max, this unfortunately unnerved Greg a little and he decided not to put in his last flight. Paul Baartz retired early due to engine trouble which left Rod McDonald, Kevin Hooper and Ian Dixon who managed to record 4 flights. Kevin unfortunately had some short engine runs that resulted in short flights, Dicko had a mixed bag with one max and some reasonable other flights whilst Ron McDonald managed to put up two maxes and a shorter but good enough flight to put him in first place without needing a fourth. If Greg had put in his 4 flight the final positions would have been different. Despite the conditions a good mornings flying and banter was had by all who attended. 1/2A Texaco April 26th Oakford SAM No. Place Competitor Model Total 2706 1 Rod McDonald Brigadier 1143 27017 2 Ian Dixon Anderson Pylon 1069 27023 3 Greg Mc Lure Anderson Pylon 796 2701 4 Paul Baartz RC 1 511 27021 5 Kevin Hooper Stardust Special 363 27027 6 Michael Butcher Kerswap 0 3 Geezer May 2015

State HLG competition The State AWA Hand Launch Glider competition was held at the Gossage Road field on Sunday 12th April. Six entries enjoyed the cool conditions but the wind picked up later in the event. Fortunes were varied amongst the competitors with some good times achieved. The winners are shown on the left. All later events for the day were canceled due to the increasing showers and wind. State HLG results 1st Greg Mc Lure, 2nd Ryan Sherburn, 3rd Ian Dixon 4 Geezer May 2015
