BikeBoost Cycle to Work Challenges Web-based, but with recruitment roadshows, incentive gifts, multimedia marketing and some strategic supported bike loans for specific workplaces. As an example look at our work in Chester (website below), where we recruited 616 participants from 78 workplaces in three weeks. They cycled 42,000 miles during the challenge period. BikeBoost Loan and Support Scheme This programme puts more emphasis on the hardware. We lend high quality bikes and accessories for four weeks to boost cycling commuter numbers at workplaces. It involve a web-based element, plus recruitment roadshows and ongoing support. It s an ideal addition to any existing salary sacrifice scheme, and can work at a single workplace, or city-wide. Our Sheffield project, for example, is recruiting new or returning cyclists, to create 600 new, regular cycling commuters. Continuation rates are around 70%. Community BikeBoost Challenges Similar to the schemes for workplaces but operating (usually) in lowincome neighbourhoods, supporting people in gaining access to work and enjoying better health An example is our work in parts of Dundee, where where 91% of participants are continuing to cycle regularly. We have also run similar schemes to support cycling to school. www.bikeboost.org/chester www.bikeboost.org/shefield www.bikeboost.org/dundee www.getcycling.org.uk
Activity Days for Schools Children ride thirty or so cycles on the yard, while another group enjoy our amazing bikes video and dramatic role play sessions. An hour of activity, entertainment and education to each of up to 300 children per day. Sometimes we operate in a sports hall and schools come to us. Recent feedback from a tour of ten Lewisham schools gave us ten out of ten in all assessment criteria. Dynamo Challenge for Schools Here we use the excitement of our schools cycling activity day to set a challenge for the children to try one new physical activity within the following two weeks - with school and parental support. Our presenter returns to discover how they have all done, listen to their stories, give out certificates etc. One recent programme was within Tewkesbury s Count Me in Programme. Universities and Colleges Our Unibikes programme gives students a new, fully-equipped bike ready for them on the first day of term. We support with coaching, getinto-cycling classes and bike checkups on campus. There s also an optional bike buy-back at the end of summer term. We have a wide range of other tried and tested services for colleges and universities. www.getcycling.org.uk www.dynamochallenge.org.uk www.getcycling.org.uk/unibikes Get Cycling is a Registered Community Interest Company
Bike Try-Out Events We bring a selection from our 600 or so cycles, plus confidence building skills. Our Get Cycling Roadshows for the public are fantastic fun and a great way to bring the cycling message to your area. They give everyone, from very small children through to 70-plus-year-olds, the chance to try out both conventional and more specialised cycles, in a safe and very supportive environment. We originated bike try-out roadshows over ten years ago, and continue to refine them. We work in city centres, sports halls and at public events. Clients include events companies and charities. KMX Karts Track Our KMX Karts Experience is a colourfully branded track, with 15 to 25 exciting KMX Karts for adults and children. An event in its own right, or an exciting addition to any of our other events and programmes. KMX Karts perform well on grass, and are a healthy, action-packed novelty for any event. We also use them in our healthy-living roadshows and on team-building events for businesses. Park Events and Play-Days For the under-fives: a set of up to 40 very varied and unusual childsized trikes, rickshaws, tandems, handcycles, etc. Ideal for playdays in parks, or as an adjunct to any of our events.
