OPERATION TOENAILS 30th June 05th August 1943 New Georgia Campaign February 1943, the battle of Guadalcanal ended by a US victory. USA had at this time a good base for the reconquest of of the Pacific. They organized Operation CARTWHEEL, the conquest of Rabaul, advanced base of the Japanese empire in the South Pacific. First part of this operation was the landing in New Georgia to capture Munda airfield. US Air Force needed this airfield to support the naval operations in the Pacific. The campaign of New Georgia was not so fast as planned and lasted more than a month, from the initial landing on Rendova Island on the 30th of June, until the capture of the airfield at Cape Munda on the 5th of August. US infantrymen and US Marines had to fight in the muddy tracks and a terrible jungle full of mosquitos and Japanese snipers. They had to assault fortified hills with a lot of Japaneses machine guns into coral bunkers that they should reduced with flame-throwers. New Georgia campaign, codename Operation TOENAILS, for the capture of Munda airfield, is the theme of of this new memoir 44 campaign with 10 scenarios. CAMPAIGN NOTES The campaign is played in the chronological order of the ten scenarios. In accordance with history, in this period of WW2, the Allied player has the initiative in most of the scenarios (9/10) and he has to gain more objectives medals. Scenarios are played in the following order : 1 Landing at Rendova (8770) 2 Munda Track (9064) 3 Enogai Point (9089) 4 Batle of Kelley Hill (9415) 5 Raid on Zanana Beach (9471) 6 Battle of Bairoko (9134) 7 Ilangana (9482) 8 Bartley Ridge (9510) 9 - Withdrawal in the jungle (9521) 10 Munda airfield (9541) No reserve token in this campaign. No victory dice in this campaign. Victory conditions At the end of the campaign, victory points (VP) are counted as following : 1 VP for each medal on the medals track, 1 VP for each scenario won, 1 additional VP for each objective medal (token) gained, the player who have more VP win the campaign. For exemple : Allied player wins scenario «Landing at Rendova» 6 medals on the medals track included the objective medal (token) of Rendova Harbour while the Axis player gets only 4 medals. It means that the Allied player gets 8 VP (6 + 1 +1) and the Axis player 4VP. On the contrary, if the Axis player wins this scenario and the Allied player gets only 4 medals included the objective medal (token) of Rendova harbour,it means that the Axis player wins with 7VP (6 + 1) and the Allied player gets only 5 VP (4 + 1).
