Ulysses South Coast Branch New Member Information Pack (Last Updated 9 September 2016) Dear New Member Welcome to the South Coast NSW branch of the Ulysses Club. You have joined, or are thinking of joining a fantastic club of like minded mature people who enjoy one another s company and promoting the enjoyment of motorcycling amongst people in their age group. The name Ulysses comes from a poem of the same title by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. It tells how the great Greek hero Ulysses, now middle-aged and securely in charge of his kingdom of Ithaca, is getting bored with things around him and longs to go adventuring again with his shipmates of old. It describes very well indeed the sort of person who still has enough spark to go on riding into their middle and later years. This Information Pack will give you all of the information you need to become an active and involved member of the South Coast Branch. It gives you information about how our branch operates, how we manage our rides and

other events and lots of contact information. The Pack also points out other sources of valuable information and communication. If you still have any questions, then just contact the President, Secretary or any of the Committee Members and they will not only give you the information you are looking for but they can also then get that information included into the Pack for future new members.

About Us The South Coast branch is a very informal branch of the Ulysses Club. We don t collect any fees from our members. As long as you are a financial member of the Ulysses Club national body, that s good enough for us. We do follow the necessary rules of the Ulysses Club and elect a President, a Secretary and four Committee Members at the April meeting of our branch each year. These people carry out the business of running the Branch and making sure all its members are enjoying their Ulysses experience. Meetings The branch meets on the second Sunday of each month. Because our branch area is so large we alternate between Warilla Sports and Recreation Club and The Ulladulla Ex-Services Club. Warilla meetings are February, April, June, August, October and December. Ulladulla meetings are January, March, May, July, September and November. On some occasions meetings are moved to avoid clashing with other important events, but this is always publicised well in advance and included on the Run Sheet. The meetings start at 11.00am and generally don t run any longer than 60 minutes. The meetings are as lighthearted and informal as the members, with time for ride reports and jokes and other news and information. Many members also take advantage of the opportunity to bring along motor cycling related items that they may have for sale. These can also be placed on the branch website free of charge. Members are encouraged to stay for lunch after the meeting in consideration of the two clubs allowing us to use their facilities free of charge. Many enjoy a lunch together with plenty of tall stories. Details of the meetings are available on the Run Sheet. Maps and other details of the two meeting places are included at the back of this pack. Club Rides Each month the Club goes on a pre-arranged ride. These can be short day rides, longer weekend rides and sometimes even three-day weekend rides. On some occasions the rides can extend out over longer periods. But this is rare. Members are encouraged to suggest ride destinations at the meetings. Once rides are accepted by the group they are published on the Run Sheet. This is distributed at each of the meetings, but is also available on the website. The run sheet includes details of departure and meeting times and hints for

accommodation etc. It is each member s obligation to book and pay for their own accommodation (unless otherwise stated), although most of the time we give the preferred accommodation a heads up so they are expecting your bookings. Definitely first in, best dressed. We are unlike most other Ulysses branches in that we don t have a formal structure to our rides. We may all ride together, or we may ride in smaller groups or some may prefer to ride alone. We will all leave together and generally take the same route but we allow all riders to travel at a pace that they are comfortable with, and in a group that they are comfortable with. Having said that, even on our longer rides, we usually only have a few minutes between the first in, and the last to arrive. On longer rides we often prearrange meeting points along the route to stop for a rest or refreshment and ensure everyone is safe. We encourage safe riding and frown on anyone who rides or behaves in a manner that puts themselves or other members in danger. Ride Meeting Points We have different meeting start points depending on what direction we are headed in, and where our destination is. These meeting points are detailed on the Run Sheet and on the website. The website again contains interactive maps and pictures of the points. Some of these details are included at the back of this Pack.

Branch Website The Branch maintains a website which can be found at www.ulyssessouthcoast.webs.com. This site has a wealth of information. You can view or download the current Run Sheet. The Run Sheet often includes online interactive maps and links to weather forecasting sites. Generally, there will be a link to the website of any preferred accommodation venue as well. The National site also has a Forum page which lets you create forums for discussion with other members or simply to ask a question and leverage off the wealth of knowledge our members have. The Branch site also has a for sale section that allows you to lodge adds online for free. The Branch site also displays Photo Galleries of previous rides and events. The Photo Gallery has thousands of photos going back over recent years and these are a good indication of how much fun the group has. There is also a Members Directory which allows all members to see pictures of other members with some basic info. It s a great way to get to know people. We also have a New Member section, a Retired Member section and a Ridden On Member section. This is an excellent way not only to remember names and faces, but also an excellent way to introduce you to the existing members. Don t forget the general Ulysses website for Ulysses Australia at www.ulyssesclub.org. Communication Because the Branch holds no funds we don t usually mail anything to members. Rather we provide a printed Run Sheet at each meeting and also the information on the website. We can also email regular information and Run Sheets to you if you provide the Secretary with your email address. This also enables you to seek information about meetings or events. The Branch also has an informal Facebook presence and again if you are a Facebook user we can get you connected if you approach the Secretary. In exceptional circumstances if you don t have access to the Internet we can do limited information broadcasts by SMS.

Contacts The current contact points for the branch are President Michael the cardinal Livissianos Mobile 0414 926 931 Email mkjsa3@bigpond.com Secretary Mike Leonard & Website Mobile 0421 044 134 Email scsecretary@hotmail.com Committee Geoff Stumpy Blacker Member Mobile 0408 603132 Email skeetor76@hotmail.com Committee Chris Campbell Member Mobile 0403 006217 Email campbellchris119@gmail.com Committee Ben Williams Member Mobile 0439 441153 Email benjan14@bigpond.com Committee Bob Loshot Thompson Member Mobile 0404 311538 Email robert.thompson18@bigpond.com Website www.ulyssessouthcoast.webs.com Help Us Contact You We regularly update information about rides and other events. It is helpful for us to be able to provide you with that sort of information easily. Because as an informal branch we don t hold funds, we can t do regular mail. We do use email, and it can also be helpful to have a phone contact for emergencies or if ride details are changed late. To help with this just fill out the Contact Form at the back of this pack and give it to the secretary at the next meeting you attend. Otherwise you can just email your contact information to the

secretary at the email address above. The information is voluntary and you only need to give as much as you want. The member number and expiry date however is mandatory as it allows us to ensure you are a financial Ulysses member. We will keep your information secure and will never pass any of it on to other individuals or organisations. Ulysses Annual General Meeting Around March every year Ulysses Australia holds its Annual General Meeting (AGM). This is hosted in locations around the country. A bidding process (like the Olympics) takes place so we also know at least 2 AGM s in advance where it will be held. The last few have been in Albany, Newcastle and Mildura, Maryborough, Alice Springs and Tasmania. The AGM for 2017 is in Port Macquarie. The event goes for a whole week starting on Monday and finishing on the following Sunday. It has demonstrations and stalls, motorcycle related items for sale and many vendors even provide current model bikes for free test rides. The national Ulysses elections are also carried out at the AGM. There are two dinners, one informal and one formal, held on the Friday and Saturday nights. There is also a mass parade of all motorcycles usually in a prominent area of the host city. This is an event not to be missed where thousands of Ulyssians from all around the country gather. Again travel to and from and booking your accommodation and entry to the event is your responsibility. Many groups travel to the AGM and you can usually find a group to travel with. The entry forms are in the Riding On magazine and also on the Ulysses Australia website, which also contains many other details. The South Coast Branch is one of the branches which patronises the AGM each year in large numbers. Branch Christmas Party Each year the November ride weekend sees the Branch Christmas party. In recent years this has been held at the Lake Tabourie Tourist Park. This weekend event is kicked off with drinks on Friday night and culminates with a dance and other fun events at the park on Saturday night. As usual you are responsible for booking your own accommodation. Let the park owners know you are with the South Coast Ulysses as we generally all camp in a close proximity to one another. The park also has reasonably priced cabins

available. The park is right on the beach so swimming is an option. Many arrive at the park up to a week in advance. Branch T-Shirt and Name Tag New members are encouraged to purchase a branch T-shirt and name badge. The cost of the T-shirt is approximately $25.00 and name badges are approximately $14.00. These costs represent the cost to the branch for the items. We make no profit. To purchase a name badge or T-shirt just fill out the attached form and give that form with your cash to the Secretary. Branch name tags are worn at all Branch meetings and the Branch T-shirts are worn at AGM s and any other function that involves other branches or as you see fit. You are always given a few meetings grace, but if you don t wear your name tag, we ask for a gold coin donation to pay for snags at our next sausage sizzle.
