Peel Viking Longboat Raes Order 2012 Artile 1 Statutory Doument No. 0525/2012 Highways At 1986 PEEL VIKING LONGBOAT RACES ORDER 2012 Made: 13 July 2012 Coming into Operation: 21 July 2012 The Department of Infrastruture makes the following Order under setion 38 of the Highways At 1986 1. 1 Title This Order is the Peel Viking Longboat Raes Order 2012. 2 Commenement This Order omes into operation on 21 July 2012. 3 Interpretation In this Order losure period means any period during whih an authorisation under artile 4 is in fore in relation to the longboat raes or any part of the longboat raes; longboat day means the day and times speified in olumn 2 of the Shedule; longboat area means the roads speified in olumn 1 of the Shedule; longboat raes means the Peel Viking Longboat Raes; promoter means Peel Viking Longboats Limited; senior polie offier means a member of the Isle of Man Constabulary (a) (b) of the rank of sergeant or above; and authorised by the Chief Constable to at as senior polie offier for the purposes of this Order. 1 1986.17 SD No.0525/2012 Page 3
Artile 4 Peel Viking Longboat Raes Order 2012 4 Authorisation of use of the longboat area for spetators of the longboat raes (1) The promoter is authorised to use the longboat area for spetators of the longboat raes on the day and times speified in the Shedule. (2) The promoter may for any reason anel or postpone the longboat raes, or any setion of the longboat raes. (3) If the promoter anels or postpones the longboat raes under paragraph (2) he or she must notify the senior polie offier. 5 Suspension of right of way et. Subjet to artile 6, during any losure period in relation to any part of the longboat area, the right of way over it is suspended and aordingly no traffi may enter or remain on it. 6 Exemptions from artile 5 (1) Artile 5 does not apply to the following persons (a) (b) () (d) (e) the promoter; persons appointed by the promoter as offiials for the purpose of the longboat raes; onstables, fire offiers and medial or veterinary persons, highway maintenane and reovery persons; persons lawfully taking part in the longboat raes and spetators; any other person authorised in writing by the Department or the Chief Constable. (2) Artile 5 does not apply to the ompetitors vehiles and any vehile approved by the promoter. 7 Publiity for anellation et. Where the senior polie offier is notified of the anellation of the longboat raes or a setion of the longboat raes under artile 4, he or she must take suh measures (if any) as he or she onsiders appropriate to inform the publi of the effet of it. 8 Notifiation of end of losure (1) At the end of the losure period on the longboat day for whih an authorisation under artile 4 is in fore (a) (b) the promoters, or the senior polie offier after onsulting the promoters, Page 4 SD No.0525/2012
Peel Viking Longboat Raes Order 2012 Artile 9 must make suh provisions as seem most expedient for giving offiial notifiation to the publi of the onlusion of the longboat raes and the opening of the longboat area to traffi. 9 Provision for the postponement of the longboat day In the event of adverse weather onditions or any other irumstanes whih may obtain on 21 July 2012 the longboat day may be postponed until 22 July 2012, and in suh event this Order will have effet where the ontext so admits as if that day were substituted for 21 July 2012. 10 Eretion of barriers and signs (1) The promoter must ensure that barriers, diversion signs and losure signs are ereted and maintained on all side roads immediately before, or as soon as possible after, the beginning of every losure period, and in any event before the relevant part of the longboat area is used. (2) The promoter must ensure that all signs required by paragraph (1) are plainly visible to approahing traffi. (3) The barriers referred to in paragraphs (1) must onsist of (a) (b) strutures to whih signs approved by the Department have been attahed; or if the Department so direts for any partiular loation, a banner stating Road Closed in red letters on a white bakground, and suspended from a rope or struture. (4) The losure signs referred to in paragraph (1) must be of the size, olour and type shown in diagram 7010.1 (warning, informatory and regulatory) in Shedule 12 to the Traffi Signs Regulations and General Diretions 2002 2. (5) The promoter must ensure that all barriers, diversion signs and losure signs are removed at the end of the losure period. 11 Insurane The promoter must seure insuranes and indemnities against death, injury or damage to persons or damage to property arising out of the ondut of the raes or arrangements inidental to them of at least one million pounds ( 1,000,000).
