A lot of work was done during the workday weekend of April 1-3 at the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville. He congratulated Lion Rick Reynolds and company for the nature trail that they built and thanked all the lions who volunteered.
2. On Saturday, April 2 nd, MD2 TX Lions District Opportunities for Youth Contest were also held. It was rescheduled from an earlier date but the event was not very well attended. He was not sure about the communication that was out there among the lions. Although it was not very well attended, seven (7) students from Conroe Noon or Cut & Shoot Lions Club competed in three (3) different contests and there was a winner for each. The winners will represent the district in the Youth Contest at the MD2 State Convention in June 2011. 3. District Convention, April 29 & 30, 2011. There were 122 emails sent out regarding the election of officers. He asked everyone if they received that email and gave a breakdown of how many emails were opened, attachments viewed, etc. He encouraged the clubs to send their delegates because it is very important that we endorse our candidate for International Director. As of March 16, 2011, of the 64 Lions Clubs in our district, 33 lions clubs are not eligible to vote. This may be a result of clubs not being current with their membership dues or they may have a 90-day plus balance with LCI, or outstanding dues with the district/state. The list has been updated and it looks better today but it is not 100%. He asked the presidents and secretaries of each club to look into this as soon as possible. He congratulated and thanked Lion Cathy Bleakley, as well as Lion Melissa Malechek for doing a great job. He gave a brief description on the layout of the convention and encouraged members to register. 4. The district membership number is down by 40 which is not too bad relative to the other districts. However, it would be much better if the district membership could be positive by the end of this year. Although our numbers are down, the district is still looking good and we have a few more months to go. He congratulated those clubs who turned out to have net positive members this year. Leading the way was the Magnolia Lions Club with 13 net positive new members this year. They conducted membership drives and are very enthusiastic to let other people know about lionism. In the same area, the Southwest Montgomery Lions Club followed with 34 members. The University of Houston Lions Club just had their Charter Night on March 28 th. They have been performing and excited about the multiple projects they have in their campus and around the community. VI PARADE OF CHECKS 1.
