The Game: Following a season-opening loss to Fordham this past Friday, the Hofstra Women s Basketball team looks to earn its first win of the season this evening when they host the Pioneers of Sacred Heart University. These two teams went down to the wire last season with then-sophomore guard Cigi McCollin laying in the game-winner with two seconds left to give the Pride a 67-66 victory and end Sacred Heart s 19-game home court win streak in the process. Streaks, Trends and Notes: - Hofstra is 3-7 in its last 10 season openers, 6-4 in its last 10 home openers and 4-6 in its last 10 road openers. - The 26 combined wins in the last two regular season for the Pride are the most in back-to-back seasons for Hofstra since the program's first two seasons of Division I basketball (21 wins in 1982-83 and 18 wins in 1983-84). - Hofstra has won 14 of its last 24 games at home in Hofstra Arena. - Hofstra has out-rebounded 32 of its last 46 opponents, including 19 of 29 last season and one of one this year. - Hofstra out-rebounded 12 of its final 16 opponents in 2004-05. - Hofstra has made a three-pointer in 188 of its last 190 games. The last time the Pride didn t make a threepointer in a game was on January 26, 2003 in a 99-69 road loss to Old Dominion. The current streak is 65 games in a row with a made three-pointer. - The Pride is 26-4 in its last 30 games when they hold their opponent under 60 points (5-0 last season). - Since becoming a Division I program starting with the 1982-83 season, Hofstra is 32-9 (78%) all-time when scoring 80 or more points in a game. In games that didn t go to overtime, that number is 32-7 (82%), as the Pride lost both overtime games when they scored 80 or more points. - Three of the Pride returning players and Head Coach Felisha Legette-Jack competed in various state and international competitions this past summer. Internationally speaking, Coach Jack was a member of the gold medal winning USA Women s U19 World Championship team that competed in Tunisia, while junior forward Lizanne Murphy was a part of Team Canada at the World University Games in Izmir, Turkey. Lastly, junior center Vanessa Gidden and junior guard Cigi McCollin both won gold medals with the Long Island Open squad at the Empire State Games in Poughkeepsie, New York. Coach Legette-Jack: A two-time gold medal winning coach as a member of USA Basketball's staff, Felisha Legette-Jack is entering her fourth season as head coach of the Hofstra University Women's Basketball program. Under her direction, the Pride have been making positive strides and the team's 27 victories the past two seasons are the most in consecutive years since the 1982-83 and 1983-84 season (39 victories). In her three seasons, Legette- Jack has coached the Pride to a 35-51 record and has had five all-conference, five academic all-conference and two All- Metropolitan New York players in her short tenure. Legette-Jack, the 10th head women's basketball coach in Hofstra history, coached the Pride to a 13-16 mark in 2004-05 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association Championship for the third straight year. The team made noticeable gains on the offensive end of the floor, ranking second in the CAA in scoring offense (65.5) and three-point field goal percentage (.322), and first in three-pointers made (5.76 per game). The team also led the league in defensive rebounding (26.86 per game) and was second in offensive rebounding (15.69) and overall rebounding (42.6 per game). The summer of 2005 also saw Legette-Jack serve a second stint as an assistant coach with USA Basketball, as a member of Gail Goestenkors' (Duke) staff for the 2005 FIBA Women's U19 World Championships squad that posted a perfect 8-0 mark en route to a gold medal at the World Championship in Tunis, Tunisia. In 2003-04 she guided her team to a 14-14 record and a second place tie in the conference standings after being picked seventh in the preseason poll. Legette- Jack coached her squad to a school-record 11 conference victories, including a 74-72 win over Old Dominion that many consider the biggest win in school history. Hofstra's 14-13 regular season mark was just the fourth winning regular season since the team became a Division I program in 1982. Legette-Jack was rewarded for her efforts by being named Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year. 2003-04 was an exciting and successful year for Legette-Jack in other ways as well. During the summer of 2003, Legette-Jack served as an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2003 FIBA World Championship for Young Women in Sibenik, Croatia, and helped coach the team to a gold medal. Then in March 2004 she was named to the Big East Conference Silver Anniversary Women's Basketball Team, one of just 15 players selected. In her first campaign as head coach, Legette-Jack guided the Pride to an 8-21 record and a first round win in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship, which was the Pride's first tournament win in five years. Legette-Jack brought a wealth of collegiate coaching experience to Hofstra. She spent 11 seasons as a Division I assistant coach, with nine years in the Big East Conference at Syracuse University and Boston College, and two seasons in the Big Ten Conference at Michigan State University. Legette-Jack came to Hofstra after serving for two seasons as an assistant coach at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. In 2000-01 the Spartans went 10-18, but followed that up with one of the top turnarounds in the NCAA in 2001-02, going 19-13 and advancing to the Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) semifinals. It was the fifth most wins in school history and included three victories over nationally ranked programs. While at Michigan State, Legette-Jack served as the recruiting coordinator and was responsible for signing the 14th-ranked recruiting class in the country for the 2001-02 season. Three of those recruits were residents of the state of Michigan and were ranked in the top 61 in the nation. In addition, Legette-Jack supervised the student-athletes' academic progress, and helped organize and direct Michigan State's preseason and postseason conditioning program. Prior to her two seasons at Michigan State, Legette-Jack spent seven seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Syracuse University. Legette-Jack was the recruiting coordinator at Syracuse and helped bring in two Gatorade Players of the Year. She was also in charge of organizing all team travel arrangements and coordinating the tape exchange program, while also taking care of the Orangewomen's conditioning schedule. During her tenure at Syracuse, her squads maintained a 100-percent graduation rate. Following graduation, Legette-Jack was the head girls basketball coach at Westhill High School in Syracuse, New York. She compiled a 26-13 record in two seasons there and had five players earn scholarships to Division I basketball programs. She then spent two years as an assistant coach at Boston College, where she oversaw the academic progress of a team with a 100-percent graduation rate, before moving on to Syracuse. The second leading scorer and all-time leading rebounder in Syracuse history, Legette-Jack is a 1989 graduate with a dual major in child and family studies, and psychology. Legette-Jack scored 1,526 points and pulled down 927 rebounds during her career as an Orangewoman. Legette-Jack was a three-time All-Big East selection, earned Kodak All-American honorable mention accolades twice and was named the 1985 Big East Conference Rookie of the Year. She has also been named to three different Halls of Fame: Greater Syracuse Hall of Fame, Syracuse Urban League Hall of Fame and the Syracuse University Orange Plus Hall of Fame. Legette-Jack and her husband, David, have one son, David Maceo (6) and reside in Hempstead, New York. PRESEASON CAA INFORMATION: The Hofstra Women's Basketball team was picked fifth in the preseason Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women's Basketball poll, released today in conjunction with the conference's media day held at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Old Dominion, which has captured the past 14 CAA titles, was the overwhelming favorite to repeat in 2005-06. The conference also announced its preseason all-conference first and second teams, and Hofstra had three players earns spots on those teams. Junior guard Cigi McCollin (Long Island City, NY/Christ the King) earned first team honors after averaging a team-high 16.2 points and sinking a league-high 76 three-pointers. She also led the Pride with 52 steals, and was fourth in assists (57) and rebounding (121-4.3 per game). McCollin, who ranked third in the CAA in scoring last season, was named to the All-CAA first team following last season. Named to the preseason all-conference second team was a pair of juniors, center Vanessa Gidden (Stamford, CT/Stamford) and forward Lizanne Murphy (Beaconfield, Quebec, Canada/Dawson). Both players garnered third team all-conference accolades after last season, with Gidden also earning all-defensive honors and Murphy being named to the all-academic team as well. Gidden was second on the squad in 2004-05 in scoring (14.4 per game) and rebounding (8.4), while blocking a school single season record 62 shots. She ended the season ranked eighth in the conference in scoring, fifth in rebounding and first in blocked shots. Murphy, the nation's 15th leading rebounder a season ago, returns after averaging 11.8 points and a team and conference-best 10.4 rebounds per game. The lone player in the CAA to average a double-double last season, Murphy ranked 13th in the CAA in scoring, first in rebounding, fifth in field goal percentage, 12th in assists, eighth in offensive rebounds and first in defensive rebounds. Agugua sat out last season with an injury, but in 2003-04 she led the squad in both scoring and rebounding with averages of 12.0 and 6.5, respectively. A second team All- CAA selection in 2003-04 and a preseason first team allconference pick prior to last year, Agugua shot a schoolrecord 56 percent from the field in 2003-04. All-Conference: Hofstra returns four players to the lineup this season that have previously earned All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) honors. In addition, Hofstra had three players named to the preseason all conference teams, more than any other school in the CAA. Junior guard Cigi McCollin (Long Island City, NY/Christ the King) leads the group of eight returning letter winners after being named to the All-CAA first team following last season and also earning preseason first team honors. McCollin garnered first team honors after averaging a team-high 16.2 points and sinking a league-best 76 three-pointers. She also led the Pride with 52 steals, and was fourth in assists (57) and rebounding (121-4.3 per game). McCollin, who ranked third in the CAA in scoring last season, was named to the All-Met first team following the year as well. Named to the preseason all-conference second team was a pair of juniors, center Vanessa Gidden (Stamford, CT/Stamford) and forward Lizanne Murphy (Beaconfield, Quebec, Canada/Dawson). Both players earned third team allconference accolades after last season, with Gidden also earning all-defensive honors and Murphy being named to the all-academic team as well. Gidden was second on the squad in 2004-05 in scoring (14.4 per game) and rebounding (8.4 per game), while blocking a school single season record 62 shots. She ended the season ranked eighth in the conference in scoring, fifth in rebounding and first in blocked shots. Murphy, the nation's 15th leading rebounder a season ago, returns after averaging 11.8 points and a team and conference-best 10.4 rebounds per game. The lone player in the CAA to average a doubledouble last season, Murphy ranked 13th in the CAA in scoring, first in rebounding, fifth in field goal percentage, 12th in assists, eighth in offensive rebounds and first in defensive rebounds. The x-factor for the Pride this season could be the return of senior forward Amaka Agugua (Herndon, VA/Oakton). Agugua sat out last season with an injury, but in 2003-04 she led the squad in both scoring and rebounding with averages of 12.0 and 6.5, respectively. A second team All-CAA selection in 2003-04 and a preseason first team all-conference pick prior to last year, Agugua shot a school-record 56 percent from the field in 2003-04. * - All-CAA 1 st team in 2004-05 $ - All-America East 1 st team in 2004-05 # - All-CAA 2 nd team in 2004-05 ^ - All-CAA 3 rd team in 2004-05 CAA Pre-Season Player of the Year: Catherine Scanlon, Drexel

Early Signing: Hofstra University Head Women s Basketball Coach Felisha Legette-Jack announced on November 14 the signing of guard Samantha Brigham of Simsbury, Connecticut, to a national letter of intent. Brigham, who currently plays for Simsbury High School in Simsbury, CT under the direction of coach Jack Casey, will begin her academic and athletic career at Hofstra beginning in the fall of 2006. We are so excited to have Sam join our Hofstra family, commented Legette-Jack. She is what I consider a tough kid that loves competition. Sam is a great defender, who is a solid offensive threat and she brings an immense amount of energy every time she steps on the court. She is a tireless worker, a great student and Sam understands what it takes to pursue championships. We are lucky to have her as a member of our program. A twotime all-conference selection and a tri-captain of the Simsbury High School Trojans, the 5-10 guard was a 2004 Hartford Courant preseason Top 25. In addition, as a freshman and a sophomore Brigham was named to the Hartford Courant Others to Watch list. Brigham has averaged at least nine points a game in each of her three varsity seasons thus far. As a freshman, she averaged nine points and 2.4 assists and followed that up in her sophomore campaign with averages of 11 points and 2.8 assists. Last season, as a junior, Brigham scored 9.1 points and dished out 3.6 assists per game. Brigham, who also played three years of soccer and ran track for one season, is a member of the Connecticut Shamrocks AAU team that finished fourth in the nation in 2003, fifth in 2004 and ninth in 2005. 2005-06 CRUNCH-TIME FREE THROWS Last Five Minutes of Regulation and Overtime Vanessa Gidden (0-2, 0%) TOTAL 0-2, 0% Consecutive Games Played Name Current Streak Season- High Career- High McDowell Fripp McCollin 14* 1* 42 Hughes 1* 1* 1* Medders Murphy 54* 1* 54* McSpadden 30* 1* 30* Campbell 1* 1* 1* Ali 27* 1* 27* Agugua 1* 1* 45 Williams 1* 1* 1* Harshaw 5* 1* 24 Gidden 3* 1* 48 Biedny 1* 1* 1* Quamme 30* 1* 30* * - current Consecutive Starts Name Current Streak Season- High Career- High McDowell Fripp McCollin 15* 1* 20 Hughes Medders Murphy 35* 1* 35* McSpadden 5 Campbell Ali 1* 1* 12 Agugua 1* 1* 27 Williams Harshaw 2* 7 Gidden 2* 1* 22 Biedny Quamme * - current Consecutive Double Figure Scoring Games Name Current Streak Season- High McDowell Fripp McCollin 7* 1* 11 Hughes Medders Murphy 5 McSpadden 1 Campbell Ali 1 Agugua 6 Williams Harshaw 6 Gidden 11 Biedny Quamme 1 * - current Career- High
