In general, the event includes the fllwing majr cmpnents: The wet pipe table and pipe. This pipe starts with a small-leak in the pipe and represents the in-service pipe. The dry pipe table and pipe. This pipe is the surplus material pipe and is used t make the repairs n the wet pipe. A tl-bx with tls A sampler and sample designated area WHAT YOU WILL PROVIDE Hard hat, safety glasses r gggles, safety bts r shes, prtective glves. Enthusiasm! EVENT ORDER The event shuld be cnducted in a similar rder t this: 1. Drill a 4.5-inch diameter hle in the dry PVC pipe. 2. Install a Inserta Tee in the 4.5-inch hle, and secure with a hse clamp. 3. Cut ut and remve a measured length f pipe frm bth the wet and dry PVC pipes. The sectin cut frm the dry pipe will include the Inserta Tee and will be used t replace the sectin remved frm the wet pipe. 4. Install the replacement length f dry PVC pipe (cmplete with Inserta Tee) int the wet PVC pipe, and secure with flexible repair cuplings and hse clamps. 5. Prgram the autmatic sampler per the defined prcedure. 6. Start and end with all tls in the tl-bx 2017 Operatins Challenge Cllectin Systems Event 1

EVENT SIMULATOR The prvided event simulatr includes the fllwing items: 1. Wet Pipe - A 6-ft length f 8-inch SDR 35 PVC pipe strapped t a steel table, ready fr cutting. Water will be flwing thrugh this length f pipe during the event (the wet pipe). This pipe will start with a small hle, representing a leak. 7. Dry Pipe - A 6-ft length f 8-inch SDR 35 PVC pipe strapped t anther steel stand, ready fr cutting (the dry pipe). 8. Tlbx. The tlbx will cntain: a. Hand drill (nn-ratcheting brace) with a LENOX 4.5-inch circular cutting blade (mdel 72L), r equivalent. b. One 4-inch IPS Sch 40 Inserta Tee, t include a rubber sleeve (ASTMF477), PVC hub (ASTM D3034), and stainless steel band c. Spray bttle with lubricatin sap slutin (1 tsp f liquid dish sap and 16 z f water) d. Blck f wd (Standard pine 2-inch x 4-inch x16-inch). e. Fur pund mallet/sledge hammer (Dimensins: 1/2-inch x 4 3/8-inch x 1 3/4-inch). f. A shrt piece f pipe already installed in the Inserta Tee utlet s that the plug will seat prperly. g. Tw flexible repair cuplings with fur bands (Mdel #B602 ALL 300 SS by Pipcnx when rdering with the cupling OR Dynafl Size 152 10, 51-224mm ALL SS), attached lsely arund cuplings. The bands are nt quick release. h. Tw LENOX saw handles with tw 18-inch PVC saw blades (mdel HS F180), r equivalent. i. Tw speed wrenches with sckets. j. Tape measure and marker. Teams must use the supplied tape measure (Stanley Fat Max Keychain Tape Rule, 1/2-inch x 6 feet FMHT33706W) and marker (Sharpie fine pint riginal 30001). Teams have the ptin t either carry the tape measure and marker int the event n their bdy r have the items placed in the tl bx during the three minute set-up perid. Hwever, whichever way the team decides, the tape measure and marker must end the event in the tl bx. 9. Hach Mdel AS950 autmatic sampler with all required accessries. SCORING k. Autmatic sampler PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS sheet. Instructins will be n a single sided sheet and will be lcated adjacent t the sampler during the event. The event scring will be based n the fllwing: The time taken t cmplete the event. The leakiness f the wet pipe after being repaired. The wet pipe cnnectins will be checked fr water tightness at 3 psig fr 30 secnds. The accuracy f the autmatic sampler prgramming and sample taking. Cmpliance with all prvided instructins. Ability t perfrm the event safely and in accrdance with all standard field safety guidelines. 2017 Operatins Challenge Cllectin Systems Event 2

REQUIRED PROCEDURES 1) A three-minute event set-up perid is prvided t ensure that all necessary tls and equipment are prvided and satisfactry. It is the team s respnsibility during this time t cmplete the fllwing: 2) Check and cnfirm that all bands t be used in the event are in satisfactry cnditin. 3) Mark the wet pipe, if desired (nly the wet pipe). 4) Bands will already be placed lsely arund cuplings. 5) Cnfirm the pipe table and clamps are apprpriate fr the team. 6) Oversee lubricatin f the saw blades and hle saw, if desired. 7) The Inserta Tee must be cmpletely put tgether (defined by the PVC being seated in the rubber cupling apprpriately t the nted insertin pint with the stainless band arund the rubber cupling withut falling ff) r cmpletely apart inside the tl bx. 8) At the end f the three-minute set-up perid, all tls and equipment must be placed flat in the tlbx. Nne f the tls can be stacked n tp f each ther (N verlapping f any cmpnent in the tlbx) r left leaning against the tlbx. Leaning is defined as supprt f the vertical walls f the tlbx is necessary t keep the item in the current psitin. The judges will cnfirm the tl bx is set apprpriately befre the event begins. If it is nt set apprpriately, the Team Captain will be asked t reset the bx and latch the padlck. If the bx is nt set by then end f three minutes, a penalty will be assessed. 9) Each team member is required t wear all f the apprved safety gear thrughut the event, and cmpete in a safe manner. 10) The team member(s) prgramming the sampler may remve their safety glves, but nly while prgramming the sampler and in the sampler area. Glves must be put back n prir t leaving the sampler area. The sampler area is apprximately 4 ft x 5 ft and will be marked with tape n the flr surrunding the sampler. 11) The PVC pipe sectins strapped t the tables may nt be mved laterally by the cmpetitrs. 12) The 4.5-inch hle must be drilled in the sectin riginating frm the dry PVC pipe, using the hle saw prvided. 13) Install the Inserta Tee using the fllwing steps: Cre a 4.5-inch hle with the hle saw prvided and clean the edges. Install the rubber sleeve with the gld band perpendicular t the pipe. Check t be sure the inside and utside segments are flush t the pipe. Place the stainless steel band ver the rubber sleeve, but d nt tighten. Spray the sap slutin inside the sleeve and n the plastic hub. Align vertical red line n the plastic hub with the gld line n the sleeve and insert by hand. Place a wd blck n the plastic hub and drive the hub int the sleeve with the hammer. The hub shuld be installed s that the hrizntal red line is at the tp f the rubber sleeve. Tighten the stainless steel band, near the tp f the rubber sleeve. 2017 Operatins Challenge Cllectin Systems Event 3

14) The lengths f PVC pipe must be cut ut using the LENOX saws prvided. All cuts must be cmpleted within the framewrk f the pipe table. 15) The autmatic sampler must be prgrammed crrectly using the data prvided n the attached instructin sheet. All teams shall enter the site ID as the tw digits 15 in the first tw available clumns f the site ID entry (far left). The sampler will be reset t Factry Defaults between each team s run f the event. 16) When replacing tls in the tlbx, the tls must be placed in the tl bx and nt thrwn r drpped frm a level abve the height f the sides f the bx. The tlbx lid is t be clsed and latched with the padlck. The free end f the lck shackle must be placed thrugh the hasp and ver the bdy f the lck. A majrity f the shackle s free end must be within the plane f the lck bdy. D nt clse the lck. 17) The team captain will determine the end f the event by signaling the judges bth visually and audibly. The event time will cntinue until all fur (4) team members have exited the event area regardless f the signal frm the team captain. 18) After the event ends, the team captain shuld remain just utside f the event area. 19) The team captain will witness the pressure test and review f sampler prgramming entry if Sampler Judge requires a review. 20) The team captain will be presented with the event time, alng with any penalties. 21) The team captain will sign the scre sheet t cnclude the event. The judges will: Recrd the elapsed time. The average f the stpwatches will be used t set the raw time. Check the sewer service replacement sectin fr water tightness. The wet PVC pipe will be allwed t fill until water flws frm the utlet end. At this pint, the discharge valve will be clsed and the pressure increased t 3 psi. Time penalties will be added fr any leakage that ccurs within 30 secnds. The team captain will be asked t witness the leak test. Check the accuracy f the prgramming f the autmatic sampler and verify that a prper sample was taken. Any penalties and the assciated penalty times must be apprved and signed by all f the judges. Add any penalty times t the raw time n the scre sheet. Meet with the team captain t discuss the raw time and any penalties. RULES 1) If a team member is injured during the event due t their wn actins, the event will cme t an immediate end s that aid can be prvided t the injured team member. The team will then be given a default time f 8 minutes (480 sec) and will nt be allwed t restart r rerun the event. 2) All f the prcedures listed abve must be fully cmpleted, including prgramming the sampler. Any team fund t be in vilatin f this rule knwn as shrt-cutting will be given a penalty time f 3 minutes (180 sec). 3) While sawing and drilling activity is ccurring n a pipe table by ne team member, n ther activity is permitted n the same table. This means n tuching the pipe, the pipe table, the pipe clamps, r the persn cutting the pipe and includes nt setting tls n the table while active cutting is ccurring. 4) Only ne persn (at a time) may perate the brace and bit assembly used t drill the 4.5-inch hle, with n additinal frces being transmitted t the tl in use by any ther team member(s). 5) Team members may nt place their hand inside the hle created by the hle saw while the dry pipe is still being cut. 6) N punching f the 4.5-inch hle saw cupn in any way. 7) N running r jumping. 8) N cllisins between team members. 9) Kicking r the use f ne s feet t mve tls (even n accident), equipment r material (including the cupn) will nt be permitted. 10) Sliding tls t a team member r frm table t table acrss the flr is nt permitted. 11) Stepping n a tl is cnsidered tl misuse. 12) Yu may adjust the pipe clamps during the run, if necessary, but n ther activity can ccur n the table while the clamps are being adjusted. 13) Team members may reach under and ver the wet pipe and table, but n bdy part may crss the cut ends f the wet pipe. The pipe is cnsidered cntinuus, with n ends. Team members are allwed t be at the ends f the wet table as lng as they d crss the end f the pipe. 14) When the wet cut is cmplete, the team must invert the wet pipe 90 degrees in an attempt t remve water frm the pipe while ver the wet table. Select Tubing enter 6 feet and select OK 30. Select Pacing then select Time Weighted, select NEXT 31. With Time Weighted highlighted select Edit, enter 1 minute select OK 32. Select Take First. Select Edit, select Immediately select Back 33. Select Sample Vlume, select Fixed 34. Select Vlume enter 100 ml, select OK, select Back 35. Select Prgram Start, select Immediately n Run, select Next 36. Select Prgram End, select Edit, select After Samples, press Select 37. Highlight Samples, select Edit, enter 1 select OK, select Back 38. Select RUN/HALT key n keypad 39. Select Start Prgram 40. If warned abut clearing data, affirm by selecting OK 41. Sampler is nw Running The purpse f this prcedure is t create a sampling prgram fr a cmpsite sample (1 bttle), with a vlume f 3 gallns, with an intake tube length f 6ft, intake tube type 3/8 Vinyl, with n Prgram Lck (Disabled), with n prgram delay, type f sampling r cllectin Time-Prprtinal, at an interval f 1 minute, taking the sample immediately, and stpping after the last sample, samples t cllect 1, and a sample vlume f 100ml, 0 intake rinses, 1 sample retry, and Select Site ID by entering yur team number.
