AGE GROUP REGIONALS Day 1 We had six swimmers entered into this from our performance B+ squad. In the morning session the boys competed in the 100m Freestyle and all performed brilliantly managing to get PB s throughout. Chidubem Abazie achieved an impressive PB of 1.00.45 beating his original time by a whole 2 seconds. The girls competed in both the 100m butterfly and 400IM, Lauren Napper was disappointed with her initial results but it gave her the drive to putting in a great performance in the afternoon session, particularly the 50m Backstroke this shows that with the right mindset you can do well! In the afternoon we had even more PB s achieved by Evelyn Davis in the 50m Freestyle with a 28.64 which she then went and beat again in the finals with a 28.54 every little helps. Chidubem also made it through to the finals for the 50m Freestyle. Day 2 A quieter day with two swimmers but just as exciting as they both got PB s - Evelyn in the 100m Freestyle with a great swim getting a 1:02.47, beating her original time by a whole second. Pharrell Nimoh doing the same in the 100m Butterfly beating his PB by a whole second with a 1:14.12. Evelyn got through to the final and with another great performance snatched a very worthy 4th place and did herself and the club very proud.
SAXON CROWN NEWSLETTER JULY PAGE 2 WHITE HORSE LEAGUE ROUNDS 2 AND 3 On April 22nd we competed in round 2 of the White Horse League at Becontree Heath leisure Centre, Dagenham. Due to surrounding competitions and other commitments we were not able to have a complete team at this round and yet were still able to put down some great results. We improved considerably in the relays which put us higher up on the leader board earlier on and we were able to hold on the placement for longer. Unfortunately we dropped points as the gala progressed due to absences and this being the only reason for losing out on points. There was some fantastic swims from our younger swimmers like our girls 9-11 butterfly swam by Charlotte Redman who got an impressive second place in the event with a very respectable 43:29. Charlotte swims in club development yellow and trains a maximum of 2 hours a week with the club. The main aim of this league is to give chances to those swimmers who don t compete on a regular basis because of the squads they choose to be in or other commitments. Our older more experienced swimmers again brought in some great results beating some PB s, which made the day even better. Again great teamwork was showed by the competing swimmers and others who came along to help with marshalling and motivation. Thanks again to all the team managers and helpers on the day. White Horse League Round 3 On Saturday 3rd June we competed in round 3 of the White Horse League. Up until the day before the competition, attendance looked to be worrying because of the dreaded half term and most people being away on Holiday, but the with the help of parents and swimmers volunteering we managed to send out a full team. We performed brilliantly in the relays showing great progression, bringing in lots of points early on, setting us up nicely for the start of the individual swims. Some of the results that really stood out were by Lauren Napper coming in at 1st place in the 100m Backstroke with a time of 1:13.68, Teddy Lewis with 2nd place in the 50 Fly - 40.15, Kai Johnson with 1st place and a brilliant swim in the 100m Fly time of 1.09.57 and Sophia Kirkman, who has swam in every round, performing brilliantly bringing in 3rd in the 100 Backstroke time with 1:18.75. Again the teamwork showed by the swimmers and members of Saxon Crown by helping out on the day making things run smoothly and showing great support, screaming the loudest at the end of the pool and cheering the swimmers on was great to see and as always much appreciated. Now with the last round in sight we are looking to go and do even better to finish with a bang. Go Saxon! SAXON CROWN NEWSLETTER JULY PAGE 4 MASTERS WARM WEATHER CAMP Channelling the Saxon spirit, this year's Masters warm weather training trip was an inclusive affair, and we took pity on a number of swimmers who have found themselves having to live outside the 'Sham...! So this year's trip was a wonderful joint enterprise between Saxon Crown and Hackney Aquatics' Club - a four day trip to Mataro (near Barcelona) at the end of April. Whilst the trip remained informal, we were lucky enough to be coached by the Hackney Masters' coach - Sam Russo - for 6 sessions, each lasting two hours. Many of the swimmers completed around 26km over the 4 days, with the trip also including technique development and yoga sessions on the nearby beach. We haven't managed to relocate any E8 residents to SE13 quite yet - but the trip was enthusiastically appreciated by everyone, so we're hopeful in advance of next year's event! Hats off to Kristina Vasiliauskaite (Saxon Crown) and Kieron Schiff (HAC) for all the organising efforts. See you next year!! 2017/18 FEES You will be pleased to hear that the fees for the 2017/18 season will not be changing. Keeping fees low is helped by regular and prompt payments, so keep them coming! SUMMER TIMETABLE Please note that that there will be a reduced timetable in August. This can be found on the website LEWISHAM GRANT The Club has again been successful in getting a grant from Lewisham, which will enable us to run top-up sessions for young swimmers over the holidays and train the next generation of coaches and teachers.
