Meet the Head Coach Head Coach Spencer Manning Spencer Manning enters his first season as Rhode Island College s head women s basketball coach. I am extremely excited to be taking this position. I am very impressed with the atmosphere of the College and the athletic department, Manning says. Rhode Island College has everything a student-athlete could ask for. Manning was most recently the head women s basketball and head women s soccer coach at Anna Maria College in Paxton, Massachusetts in 2002-03. Prior to his stint at Anna Maria, Manning served as an assistant women s basketball coach at Brown University in 2001-02. His duties were to recruit, scout, and train Division I caliber athletes. From 1999-2001, Manning served as the head women s basketball coach, assistant women s soccer coach, and assistant athletic director at Castleton State College in Castleton, Vermont. His first collegiate coaching experience came from 1996-99 at Springfield College where he served as the assistant women s basketball coach and helped guide the team to a.710 winning percentage and three ECAC Tournament appearances over three seasons. Manning is a 1993 graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a bachelor s degree in physical education. He also received his M.Ed. in advanced level coaching from Springfield College in 1998. A native of Lancaster, Massachusetts, Manning currently resides in Dudley, Massachusetts with his wife Charlene. 20

Meet the Coaches Assistant Coach Chuck Sabo Chuck Sabo begins his second season as an assistant women s basketball coach at Rhode Island College. Sabo s coaching career has spanned four decades, having been a coach for over 25 years. He was formerly the Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach at Ursuline Academy in Springfield, Illinois from 1996-99. He was the Girls Varsity Basketball Assistant Coach at Springfield (IL) High School from 1994-96 under Dave Urish. He was the principal of St. Mary s Elementary School in New Berlin (IL) from 1994-97. He was the Director of College Advancement at Springfield College (IL) prior to taking the principal s position at Ursuline Academy in July of 1999. He earned a bachelor s degree in elementary education from Illinois Benedictine College in 1977. He attended Springfield College (IL) from 1973-75. During his car eer at both institutions, he played football, basketball and baseball. He amassed over 1,375 career points in his collegiate basketball career. Sabo currently lives in Whitinsville, Massachusetts with his wife Fran. They have three children and one grandchild. Assistant Coach Christine Donilon Christine Donilon begins her first season as an assistant women s basketball coach at Rhode Island College. Donilon is a 2003 inductee into the Rhode Island College Athletic Hall of Fame. She was a standout on RIC s women s basketball team during the early 1980s. She was the first women s player in RIC history to reach the 1,000-point milestone, closing out her career with 1,333 points. The women s basketball team earned post-season berths in each of Donilon s four seasons at RIC. As a senior in 1982-83, Donilon co-captained the team, averaged 12.3 ppg and 3.7 rpg as the Anchorwomen earned a berth in the NCAA Div. III Women s Basketball Tournament. Donilon was part of the first-ever R.I. All-Star Team, made up of women s players from Rhode Island, to travel to Ireland in 1979-80 wher e they faced competition from all over Europe. She earned a bachelor s degree in psychology from Rhode Island College in 1985. A native and current resident of Providence, she worked for the city s Recreation Department for 15 years from 1988-03, serving as a program administrator from 1995-03.
