Gaining Mind Share Fearless: 1 percent Occasional: 9 percent No-way, No How: 30 percent Interested, but concerned: 60 percent
The 30 Percent This is nothing but a total waste of tax money stolen from Peter to pay Paul and the canal is another pipe dream of leftist crackpots to blow more tax money on what was made to stop flooding The only bike related tax money I am in favor of spending is for more rumble strips to keep these clowns off the road. They only hate money and anyone trying to make money but this nonsense is right up their leftist crackpot alley. a bike path in these times get real stop spending STOP THE MADNESS NOW 10 % unemployment, trillions of dollars in debt, talk about waste. Wait until the environmental impact studies are done five times. a nightmare the could take 25 million and ten years. the same tactics that the greenies use against everyone else will get used against themselves by their own zealots.
The 60 Percent Interested, Why? Weight Loss Time Money Convenience Concerned, Why? Safety Comfort

Bikes Mean Business The entire 2,250-mile East Coast Greenway bike route network could be upgraded for one-fifth the cost of a highway bridge. New Yorkers save $19B per year because they rely less on cars than the residents of other U.S. cities. Homes within a half-mile of Indiana s Monon Trail sell for an average of 11 percent more than identical homes farther away. After Mississippi s Longleaf Trace trail opened, sales in a nearby bike shop doubled and have risen ever since. The business growth generated an additional $175,000 in state sales tax, of which $31,500 was returned to the city.
Bikes Mean Business Bicycling projects create an average of 11.4 jobs per million dollars spent, compared to just 7.8 jobs for road-only projects. Three bike paths in Central Florida bring $42 million to the local economy every year. In Iowa, bicycling brings $435 million per year in economic activity, plus $82 million in annual health cost savings. The annual infrastructure investment by the state is approximately $3 million. Two retired sisters purchased an abandoned hardware store in Travelers Rest, S.C., when they learned a bike path would pass through. They opened a gift shop café that catered to the path users. They hoped to employ seven people; they now have 23 employees. For the price of one Interstate interchange, America could fund every bike project currently proposed.
