BOB BURKE Bob Burke s contribution to the game of lacrosse stretches over four decades. His list of accomplishments is very impressive. Bob was inducted into the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1998 and in 2001 was inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. In 1989 Bob was elected a Life Member of the Brampton Excelsior Lacrosse Club. He was named Ontario Junior A Lacrosse Coach of the Year in 1994 and coached the Brampton Tyke Lacrosse Team to the Ontario B Championship in 1998. Bob s playing career in Lacrosse began in 1960, and his success spanned two decades where he achieved such accomplishments as becoming the Brampton Excelsiors all-time point leader, having played 352 games, earning 1509 points with 646 goals and adding 863 assists. He was a member of the Canadian Mann Cup Championship Team in 1980 and was selected as the League s Most Valuable Player that year. In 1978 Bob was a member of Team Canada, which won the World Field Lacrosse Championship and was later inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Excelsior teams that won the Ontario Senior A Championships in 1975, 1977, 1980 and 1981. Bob was also the captain of the Brampton Junior A Excelsiors team that won the League Championship in 1976. Bob was elected the Ontario Junior A Most Valuable Player in 1974 and is the Junior A Excelsiors all-time point leader, playing 163 games, scoring 787 points on 330 goals and adding 457 assists. In recent years Bob has coached lacrosse in the Brampton Minor Lacrosse Association. Bob s father Michael played many years for the Excelsiors, and his son Michael is currently a member in the Brampton Minor Lacrosse system.

DAVID ARCHIBALD DASH David Archibald Dash has been actively involved with youth baseball in Brampton for the past 40 years. He has served as an invaluable member of Brampton Minor Baseball in the capacity of President from 1983 to 2000, Umpire-in-Chief from 1979 to 1982, and Executive Member and coach since 1976. David has served Central Ontario Baseball as a Director, Vice-President and currently as its President. He has also served as a Director for Baseball Ontario since 1998. David's awards are numerous: The Paul Harris Fellowship Award (Rotary Club), Brampton Citizen s Award, Government of Canada Certificate of Merit, the President s Award (Brampton Minor Baseball Inc.), the Jack Campbell Award (Brampton Minor Baseball Inc.), and Outstanding Achievement Award by a Director (Baseball Ontario). David s enormous contribution to youth baseball is recognized by Baseball Ontario and the Toronto Blue Jays with a trophy that bears his name. This trophy is awarded at the annual Baseball Ontario/Toronto Blue Jays Junior All-Star Tournament. As a coach in Brampton Minor Baseball Inc. he has guided several house league and rep teams to their championships. Notwithstanding David s fi rst love is baseball, he still found time to referee for Brampton Minor Hockey for ten years. David was instrumental in the modifi cation and updating of the Community Group Affi liation Policy for all recreation groups in Brampton, and in the formation of the Brampton Sports Alliance.

JAYNA HEFFORD Jayna Hefford is a member of the Gold Medal winning Canadian Women s Olympic Hockey Team that competed at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games held in Salt Lake City. It was Jayna s goal, with one second left in the second period, that stood up as the eventual game-winning goal. She was also a member of the Canadian Women s Hockey Team that won the Silver Medal at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games held in Nagano. Jayna has played on four World Championship teams (1997, 1999, 2000 & 2001), winning four Gold Medals. Jayna was the top scorer at the 2000 and 1999 Women s World Hockey Championships, scoring at least one point in all of Canada s games at the 2000 Championship. Jayna is a member of the Brampton Thunder of the National Women s Hockey League. She was named the 1996-1997 Ontario Women s Intercollegiate Athletic Association Rookie of the Year and was the top scorer in the OWIAA while playing with the University of Toronto. She was a Gold Medallist and Team Captain at the 1995 Canada Winter Games and a Gold Medallist at the Under 18 Nationals with Team Ontario. Jayna played all of her minor hockey in Kingston, Ontario. In 1998 Jayna was named Kingston, Ontario s Amateur Athlete of the Year. She is a National spokesperson, with National Hockey League star Paul Kariya, for the Canadian Hockey Association s Initiation Program. Jayna runs the Jayna Hefford/Lori Dupuis Hockey School with teammate Lori Dupuis.

CARM MCCREARY Carm McCreary has been involved with minor hockey in Brampton for nearly 40 years. As a hockey coach, on-ice offi cial and member of the Brampton Minor Hockey Association Executive, Carm has been instrumental in assisting with the development and expansion of one of the fi nest volunteer-based recreational activities for youth in Brampton. Appointed a Life Member of the Brampton Minor Hockey Association in 1987, Carm is a recipient of the Ken Long Memorial Trophy. He coached Bantam and Midget Rep teams as well as House League teams. He played with the Junior B Regents from 1950 to 1953, sharing the ice with such legends of the NHL as Bob Baun, Carl Brewer, Al MacNeil, Bob Pulford, Jack Bionda and Dick Duff. Carm has volunteered as a referee and linesman for 25 years, serving four years as Referee-in-Chief with the Brampton Minor Hockey Association and an additional four years as Referee-in-Chief of the popular Brampton Lions Novice Hockey Tournament. Carm also coached and managed in the House League of Brampton Minor Baseball for fi ve years and volunteered with hosting the BMBI Pee Wee Tournament. He also served in various capacities on the Executive for 12 years, including a term as President in 1969-70.

JOYCE ASTRID WAYLING Joyce Astrid Wayling is an internationally honoured Visually Impaired Lawn Bowler. She has competed internationally in six World Championships in singles, pairs and team competition, where she won Silver and Bronze medals. She won the Silver Medal at the World Bowls Championship for Visually Impaired Bowlers held in Scotland in 2001 and a Bronze Medal at the International Paralympic World Competition held in Australia in 2002. Joyce was a Gold Medal winner at the Canadian National Championships in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2001. She won Silver at the 1994 and 2000 Nationals. In 1998 and 2001 Joyce was awarded a Sports Achievement Award for achieving excellence in her sport. Joyce is President of the Brampton VIP s (Visually Impaired Person), Vice President of the Ontario Lawn Bowling Association for the Blind and is a member of the Brampton Lawn Bowling Club. Joyce s coach and guide is Kitty Dennis.

LORI DUPUIS Lori Dupuis is a member of the Olympic Gold Medal winning Canadian Women s Hockey Team that competed at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. This was Lori s second Olympics; she was a member of the Canadian Women s Hockey Team that won the Silver Medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics held in Nagano, Japan. Lori has three World Championship Gold Medals as a member of Team Canada (1997, 1999 and 2000). A member of the Brampton Thunder of the National Women s Hockey League, Lori was named to the 1998-1999 NWHL Western Division 2nd All-Star Team. She is a four-time Ontario Women s Intercollegiate Athletic Association Gold Medallist and played with the University of Toronto Blues from 1991-1997, serving as Captain for three years. Lori was nominated as the University of Toronto s Female Athlete of the Year in 1996 and 1997. Lori s minor hockey career was spent in Cornwall, Ontario. Fully bilingual, Lori holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Toronto. She runs the Jayna Hefford/Lori Dupuis Hockey School with teammate, Jayna Hefford.

SAMI JO SMALL Sami Jo Small is a member of the Olympic Gold Medal winning Canadian Women s Hockey Team that competed at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games held in Salt Lake City. Sami Jo was also a member of the Canadian Women s Hockey team that won Gold Medals at the World Championships in 1999, 2000 and 2001. Sami Jo was named Top Goaltender on the All-Star Team at the 1999 and 2000 Women s World Hockey Championships. Sami Jo backstopped the Brampton Thunder of the National Women s Hockey League for two seasons, 1999-2000 and 2000-2001. Prior to her time with the Thunder she attended Stanford University where she played on the men s hockey team until 1999. Sami Jo was named Pac-10 Hockey Player of the Year in 1996-1997. She has been playing hockey since 1981 when she started in St. Vital, Manitoba, playing Midget AAA and Junior B. Fully bilingual, Sami Jo is a graduate of Stanford University in Mechanical Engineering. She also plays inline hockey and is a former member of the National Junior Track and Field Team. Sami Jo was Team Captain at the Pan American Juniors and was a member of the Stanford University Track Team from 1994-1998.

VICKY SUNOHARA Vicky Sunohara is a member of the Olympic Gold Medal winning Canadian Women s Hockey Team that competed at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games held in Salt Lake City. She was the Assistant Captain of the team. Vicky was also a member of the Canadian Women s Hockey Team that won the Silver Medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics held in Nagano, Japan. She has played in fi ve World Championships, winning fi ve Gold Medals (1990, 1997, 1999, 2000 & 2001). Vicky was the Face-Off Leader at the 2000 Women s World Hockey Championship and was named one of Canada s top three players at the 1999 World Championship. Vicky is the all-time National Women s Team leader with six game-winning goals scored at the World Championships. Vicky is the Team Captain with the Brampton Thunder of the National Women s Hockey League. She won a Bronze Medal while playing with the Beatrice Aeros at the 1999 Esso Women s National Championships and a Silver Medal when playing with the North York Aeros at the 1996 Esso Women s National Championships. Vicky played with the Toronto Red Wings from 1994 to 1996, the Scarborough Firefi ghters and the University of Toronto Blues from 1990 to 1992, twice winning the OWAA Championship with the Blues. She was named to the All-American All-Star Team in 1989-1990 while attending Northeastern University and was a member of the team that won the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship in 1988-1989. Vicky is an avid recreational touch football player and ball hockey player.
