t June 1-9, 2018 Nature Craft: Enjoy these fun nature-themed activities geared toward adults and older kids. This month we offer Beachstone Jewelry, Gyotaku fish prints, and sun catchers. Hunter Boot Tide Pool Walk: Join Capt. Mark on an adventure to shallow watery places. Depending on tide stage we will explore rocky Atlantic shoreline tide pools, or the grassy salt marshes that ring the salt pond. We will look at the seaweeds and the creatures that live in these sheltered areas. A perfect application for the Hunter Boots available from our lending closet! Naturalist Van Outing To Kettle Pond Visitor Center: Kettle Pond Visitor Center is the northeast headquarters for US Fish & Wildlife. The center has very nice displays covering local habitats and geography, which our Naturalist will review. Outing is about one hour and twenty minutes. Birding: We visit local hotspots to seek out our fine feathered friends. Outing will utilize one of the Inn vans, our open-air, or perhaps a boat. Naturalist Mark will bring along optics and local knowledge. Solar Sunday: View the sun through our beautiful scope outfitted with a high-end solar filter. This is a safe way to see sunspots on the surface of the sun. Electric Tour of Weekapaug: Join us for an insider s tour of Weekapaug in our new open-air electric shuttle. Bucolic lanes and lawns, beautiful homes, hidden beaches and big views. Radio Control Sailboats: Sail the seas without leaving solid land. Our r/c sailboats are fun for all ages. Boathouse Napatree Point, a mile-long ribbon of sand and dune, runs west from Watch Hill towards Fisher s Island. At the turn of the century the spit was home to Ft. Mansfield, an installation of large naval guns; in 1938 dozens of homes were destroyed in the great hurricane. Today Naps is a conservation area and a wonderful place to see shore birds, including American Oyster Catchers. Join us on a 3-hour tour of this remarkable site. $20 per person. Naturalist s Beach Walk: Join our naturalist on an hour-long walk down the barrier beach. He will point out wildlife, interesting plants and landmarks. The beach is beautiful and great for walking throughout the year. Guides: The following guides are available at the front desk: Local jogging and biking maps. Points of interest map covering Mystic, CT to Newport, RI. Walker s guide to scenic downtown Westerly. Moon map for self-guided moon viewing. ipads with stargazing app. Printed directions to area attractions are also available at the front desk. Tours Enjoy a 30- minute pond cruise on our Elco electric boat. Tours leave from the dock right off our backyard and take in waterfront homes and sweeping salt marshes. The ride is slow, tranquil and whisper quiet. (Tickets are provided to overnight guests at check-in. They can also be purchased at front desk for $20 each.) Naturalist s Motorboat Tour: Join Capt. Mark for a one-hour exploration of the salt pond in our shallow-draft motorboat. It is an exciting way to explore the lagoon and is great at getting into the best areas to view wildlife. Trips limited to six. (Tickets may be purchased at front desk for $20 each.) Inn Tour: Join our Naturalist for a walk around the building. Learn about the original Inn, the Great Hurricane of 38, our current building and recent renovations. Inn Lobby. S mores at the Fire pit: Enjoy a childhood favorite at our Fire pit. Tokens for $ 5.00 can be purchased at the front desk. Guests who dined in the restaurant are free. Weather dependent. Our computerized telescope reveals wonders of deep space. Cocktail Mixology Demo: Join our beverage team for a fun (and tasty) demonstration on how to mix one of our signature cocktails.
