1 Waller of Cully, County Tipperary By Noel Murphy Betham s Will Abstracts. G O 223. p 8. See page 2 for G O 252. p 124. Richard Waller = Elizabeth William Waller Cully, Co. Tipp. W. 3/8/1702 Pr. 9/12/1702 Edward William = Blanche Jonathan Dorothy Ann Mary Dsp. Cully Weekes Dsp = = W. 27/4/1711. W.21/10/1731 daughter Joseph Mr. Pr. 10/5/1711. Pr. 5/8/1732 of Mark Moody Richard = Elizabeth Mark William Edward George Jane Samuel of Cully Rev. = W. 1/7/1751 Richard Pr.7/12/1758 Maunsell Richard Edward Jane Elizabeth William (= Anne = = Brazier) Richard George Coppinger Gough Note: - William and Blanch had a daughter Elizabeth who married George Greene of Old Abbey, Co. Limerick in 1723. She however died before 1731 when George re-married. Being dead and having died without issue she was not mentioned in William Waller s will. Magazine of Magazines 22 March 1751. Richard Waller, the younger, married Miss Brasier, daughter of Col. Kilner Brasier Magazine of Magazines 13 Nov 1752. Robert Coppinger married Jane Waller, daughter of Richard of Cully. Magazine of Magazines 25 Oct 1758. Death of Richard Waller of Cully, Co. Tipperary. Magazine of Magazines 1 Nov 1759. Birth. The wife of Richard Waller, a son. (Anne Brazier). Is this where the date of 1758 in the next line comes from? Did someone read the above entry and subtract a year from it to calculate the year of marriage? The above entry gives the correct marriage date as 1752. Richard married Anne Brazier in 1758. William Waller of no known address married Arabella Vokes in March 1765.

2 Samuel Waller, above, was born in 1705 and married Anne Jocelyn on the 20 June 1730. He died on the 1 May 1762. They lived in Newport House in Newport, Co. Tipperary. Their eldest son Robert was created a Baronet. The Freeman s Journal of Tuesday 12 June 1764 records the death of Samuel s daughter Anne Waller. Blennerhassett Pedigree. William Gun = Richard Waller = Liscahane Cully 1641 Cromwellian soldier William Gun = Elizabeth Waller NUI. Galway. Landed Estates site. Waller of Castle Waller and Rockvale. Richard Waller, formerly called Warren, a Cromwellian soldier was granted lands in County Tipperary including Cully, later Castle Waller. A later Richard Waller married Anne Brazier, daughter of Kilner Brazier. This 2 nd Richard had a grandson called Samuel. Betham s Will Abstracts. G O 252. p 124. This is almost the same tree as G O 223. P. 8 but does have some discrepancies and highlights the fact that even Betham, the Chief Herald must have had difficulty reading 1700 s handwriting. Richard Waller = Elizabeth of Cully Co. Tipperary. W. 23 Oct. 1702 Pr. 10 May 1702 Edward William = Blanch Jonathon Dorothy Anne of Cully Cully Dsp = = W.27/4/1711 W. 11/10/1731 W. 31/10/1754 by 1711 Joseph Moody Pr.10/5/1711 Pr. 5/8/1734 Pr. 12/6/1755 Gason Richard = Elizabeth Mark Rev. William Edward George Samuel Jane Dorothy? Cully = = W.1/7/1757 Richard William Robert Thomas Pr, 7/10/1758 Blanch Maunsell Richard Maunsell William Richard = Anne Edward Mark? Jane Elizabeth Dsp Castle- Brasier waller dau. of Kilner of Rivers. Lt. Kilner Waller 11 th Regt D. at Limerick Dec 1792 2 nd Son of Richard Waller and Anne, Dau. of Kilner Brazier.

3 Dorothy married Thomas Maunsell circa 1730 and they had a son Richard in 1734. Note to above Tree. Richard Waller = Anne Brasier or Brazier 1726 1804 M. 1758 Daughter of Kilner Brazier, 1728 1800. =========================================== Betham s Will Abstracts. G O 252. p 339. George Waller = Miss Waller = Mr Vincent Limerick The will below identifies this Burgess man as Alderman Arthur W. 16/4/1793 Vincent. He married Blanche Pr. 16/6/1796. Waller. Robert William Richard John = Natural sons Arthur Vincent The Will mentions Eaton Maunsell as nephew to George. This has to be George, the son of William and Blanche Waller, nee Weekes above. George was Sheriff of Limerick City in 1740 and voted in the Election in 1760. In spite of his life style his mother Blanche did not cut him out of her will. George was the 1740 Sheriff of Limerick City and would have been a Freeman before that date. He lived to the early 1790 s. Irish Ancestor. Vol III. No 1. 1971. p 99. The Will of Blanche Waller, widow of William Waller of Cully, Co. Tipperary, dated 31 Oct 1754, proved 12 June 1755. The settlement entered into on the intermarriage of my son Edward Waller that 1000 should be paid one month after my decease to Richard Waller of Cully and Thomas Broughton of Dublin, Merchant. 6 per annum for life to my daughter Dorothy Maunsell, wife of Thomas Maunsell and after her death to her daughter, my grand daughter Blanche Maunsell. My other grandchildren, the sisters of the said Blanche Maunsell. To my grandson William Waller, son of Richard Waller one of my middle sized silver salvers. To my grandson John Vincent, son of Alderman Arthur Vincent, my silver coffeepot. To my grandson Robert Waller, son of Samuel Waller, another of my middle sized silver salvers. To my grand daughter Blanche Waller, daughter of Edward Waller, one pair of plate candlesticks. To the poor of the parish of Killinerath 5. Trustees: Edward Taylor of Limerick and Richard Maunsell the younger of Limerick. Residue of Estate to my son George Waller, merchant. Witnesses: - George Gough, Richard Waller and Meto Smith. Codicil, dated 16 Dec 1754. To my grand daughter Ann Taylor all my wearing linnen and other wearing apparel with my spinet, the picture of Blanche Maunsell and one of my chests of drawers where Blanch keeps her clothes. The said Ann Taylor to look after Blanche Maunsell until she marries.

4 From the above Will we can construct a partial family tree thus: - William Waller = Blanche Waller [nee Weekes] D. 1755 Richard Edward Dorothy = Thomas? = Arthur Samuel? = Edward George of Cully Maunsell Vincent Taylor William Blanche Blanche John Robert Ann Waller Maunsell The insertion of Edward Taylor as the father of Ann Taylor cannot be substantiated. But his appointment as one of the Trustees of the Will suggest a close link to the Waller family. The fact that Blanche Maunsell kept her clothes at her granny s house and that her granny saw fit to appoint Ann Taylor to look after Blanche Maunsell would indicate that Blanche was in 1755 living without her parents. The Waterford Herald, Tuesday 23 Aug 1791, Died Thursday in Dominick Street, Limerick, Miss Waller, eldest daughter of Edward Waller There were two branches of the Waller family living in the Newport area. The senior branch lived at Castle Waller and the junior branch lived in Newport House which Samuel Waller built for himself and his wife Anne Jocelyn. Samuel Waller = Anne Jocelyn Barrister B.1705 B. M. 20 June 1730 D. 1 May 1762 D. 21 Sept 1800 Robert William Jocelyn George Charlotte Elizabeth Blanche. Ann 1 st Bart Rev Prior Park = = = Nenagh John Cooke James B. 1740 Bloomfield. Otway. Poe. Death of Eliza Waller, widow of George Waller of Prior Park, Co. Tipperary. (This was George s 2 nd wife Elizabeth Studdert of Kilkishen, Co. Clare. The Chronicle said she was 87 but Burke s Irish Families Records say she was 93 years old. They married on the 8 Oct 1801).
